multiple limbs mod?

I've never seen this done on a vinyl doll before and so I'm not sure I'll be able to gather a ton of input on this, but I figured it'd be better for me to ask than to not ask at all.

 

My girls are all yokai, and one of the characters I intend to shell is a jorogumo (lit. "whore spider" This particular yokai is a beautiful woman depicted as having a few extra pair of arms and legs-- sometimes a normal torso with the lower body of a spider. She lures men to the cave she lives in and ensnares them in her web; drowning them in the process. This particular character is the captain of the school's swim team ). I don't intend to mod her head at all, but in order to pull this off I would need to mess with her body considerably. My options are keep her normal legs and give her two extra sets of arms, give her two sets of legs and two sets of arms, or give her three sets of legs and one set of arms.

 

Any advice on how I could maybe successfully pull this off?

not on a DD maybe? lol

I am joking OFC but I wouldn't suggest to modify the body so heavily.

You could make a set of belts to wrap around the shoulders/hips, and glue optional legs and arms to it. You should cut away the joints that connect the limbs to the skeleton, but I think it could still work.

In this way you still achieve your goal, without destroying a DD body, since it needs heavy skeleton and holes modification.

Bellatrix, what if I used a DD I? I know they're a little hard to come by, but they're strung like resin BJDs, and the only "spider-like" dolls I've seen are strung. From what I can understand, this allows for some room to be saved within the body of the doll without sacrificing too much mobility and range of motion?

It would definitely help, but I have personally never worked with a DD1 (and I don't really like them), so I don't know how to help further with it, sorry

Just in case, there are a few junk bodies/old fullsets available on mandarake.

So, I actually just sort of finished this girl last night-- pictures to come very soon! I guess she could be considered a hybrid between a DD and a resin bjd; her extra pairs of arms and legs are strung in a very similar way. I still need to sand the extra openings in the torso and lower body to smooth them out, and I need to do something about her ankles because I'm not having her keep her feet (it looks too awkward and it would affect her balance and posing), but she's functional and I'm super happy about how she came out.

 

As I was putting her together and tweaking some parts of her inner frame, there were arms and legs all over my desk in front of me-- for a moment, I have to admit that I felt like Sid from the Toy Story movies

I promised pictures a while back, and since I recently finished her faceup, I figured I'd post a few here! Her body isn't quite done yet, but it is slowly getting there. I'll take a few photos of the body without clothes shortly.

And here in her beautiful (also not yet finished) skirt and (what will be) a bodysuit! (I think most of Hacchi's tops are going to have to be onesies/leotards/bodysuits. They interfere with her mobility the least and I think they look decent on her.)

 

 

 

This mod has been quite an undertaking, but if I'm allowed to say so, I'm proud of myself for pursuing it.

I like that your characters are all yokai! Neat concept. Hacchi looks pretty darn cool, what a great idea. (Luckily spiders don't bother me that much.) I like how you have her posed in the last picture, that looks like how she generally gets around!

 

How you did her extra eyes is very creative too. I like how it's not readily apparent under her hair.
