cirquemom Posted July 13, 2017 I have a number of bags, specific bjd bags, tote bags, etc. for hauling my dolls around but just found one that works well and is stylish. It's the Fjallraven Kanken 17 bag. Perfect fit! Here is the bag. It has a separate space for a laptop if you want, also has a foam insert for sitting in the snow but also works well to cushion the dolls. As you can see, Moonlight fits perfectly into this bag when she is kneeling down. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! You can easily fit a second smart doll in the bag! Moonlight is joined by Inez (Ebony). Cozy but comfortable. All zipped up with two dolls inside. And if you need a Smart Doll sized backpack- you can get this one from Otakumode.com.
belpita Posted July 13, 2017 I should probably go back and buy the one I went and tried out for you. It really is a very good choice. I haven't been able to find any other backpacks that open completely like the Kånken does. Incidentally, "kånka" is Swedish slang for carrying around or towing something along. And "Fjällräven" means mountain fox.
cirquemom Posted July 13, 2017 Thanks so much for helping me out with that- I would have bought either the regular one, or the 15, and they both would have been too small. This one is perfect! Plus there's even room between them for more clothes, camera, lunch, etc. as well as the front pocket. I really love it and can't wait to actually try it out taking them somewhere now. So thanks! Poofiemus Posted July 13, 2017 That's so cool! Hey, how does it measure? If it fits airplane carryon regs, seems like it'd be a great option for flying with dolls. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
cirquemom Posted July 13, 2017 According to the measurements on the websit, 7.1 x 16.8 x 12 inches.
Lilliandil Posted July 13, 2017 This is really cool! I've been looking for a nice backpack for my doll The color of the bag won't stain the doll will it? I guess I could always just wrap my doll in a blanket first before putting her in the bag but just thought I'd ask anyway.
cirquemom Posted July 13, 2017 I guess I could always just wrap my doll in a blanket first before putting her in the bag but just thought I'd ask anyway. I think these bags are notorious for staining- in fact the little tag recommends soaking it in warm water before you use it. That's one reason I got this lighter green- hopefully less likely to stain. But also- I always recommend using a plastic face protector anytime you are taking your doll anywhere. Someone else also recommended using the plastic bag sleeve that Smart Dolls come in too. Wrapping in a blanket would be good too and also protect her a little bit. Poofiemus Posted July 14, 2017 According to the measurements on the websit, 7.1 x 16.8 x 12 inches. And carryon size is 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches, so it totally fits. Thanks, man! I'll ponder this possibility. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

Aw man - I was hoping for no or minimal staining but it still seems like a great bag!
belpita Posted July 14, 2017 Regarding staining: I had a read-through in the FAQ on their website and it says to wash it in lukewarm water before use and avoid wearing light clothes next to the bag. The bag itself can be hand-washed. I don't think it's waterproof and you shouldn't use wax or similar to try to seal it, since it's made of nylon.

I would definitely soak the darker colors before using them- just fill up the bathtub and stick it in over night. One way you can tell if excess dye has come out is if you keep soaking/rinsing until the water is clear (same with dark bjd clothes). It's one reason I got this lighter color. There are other lighter colors too- I don't think I would get black or navy blue or red. But all in all- I think it's a great bag, if you take certain precautions. I wish Danny shipped his dolls with plastic face protectors but you can get them pretty cheaply online.
