Sugarpill Posted July 15, 2017 Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here on the DollfieDreams forum. I've been a member since March but I've honestly been too nervous to make proper posts till now. I'm mainly a pure neemo collector because they have such cute little faces, but I've started getting pieces for my first DD because I really want the customisation! I currently own two obitsu 50s from azone and a luts senior delf. I have a DD body on layaway and I already own a head I'm sending off for a face-up soon! I fell in love with dolls back in 2012 but I was too young and still in school, so only the past year or so I've been able to invest money into my passion :3 So to kick off this thread and hopefully start some discussion because I'd like to to make some friends, I'd love to ask a few questions! Firstly, did you buy your first full doll outright, in a set, or did you buy pieces? And secondly, do you love the character dolls more or your original character dolls? (Also feel free to post some photos of your doll/s, I'd love to see!)
Eustia Posted July 15, 2017 Howdy. Australians are relatively rare here; we have quite a small domestic market, which can make life a bit difficult sometimes. Finding commissions here is really difficult. >.< So we have that added expense of exchange rates and international shipping for everything we do. ^^; My first girl was a base model from Volks (Yukino) but I bought an 06 head I had faceupped (by a Canadian) for the character I was making. I asked someone in my town to make the outfit, but due to various issues it took a very long time. She did most of the work but couldn't complete it due to losing her short range vision, so I had to find someone else to assemble the outfit. It did end up gorgeous, but it took two years. >.< I've commissioned all of my other outfits here on the forums since; all international. But generally much speedier. was the first girl I started, but she was completed after I had done several other projects. I've made a few girls from parts, a few from base bodies+heads. Two were character dolls I bought (body+head) which I then turned in to my own characters. Fifteen in total, and I've just started a new project for my sixteenth, which is another body in parts (white skin, because WS base bodies aren't available any more, but all of the parts are). DDs are easy to assemble anyway, so no biggie. Anyway, if you already have Obitsus and whatnot you already know plenty about the doll world, so it's just a matter of learning DD specific quirks. Have fun with it, even if I can't welcome you to the hobby as a whole!
Sugarpill Posted July 15, 2017 Your girls are so gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing! I was really hoping some other Australians would post since you're completely right, we have such a small domestic market and it's so hard meeting people from here! Whereabouts in Aus are you, if I may ask? Oh my, two years to complete a doll is so long D: ! She was worth it though, but it sucks it ended up taking so much time. I'd really love to support Australian artists/crafters but it's so hard to find them, and my experiences have been less than speedy also.
Eustia Posted July 15, 2017 There are a few of us here, but yeah, the craft side of things is lacklustre. I've had a few faceups done, but no outfitting; never seen anyone domestic offering outfit commissions. I'm in rural Victoria these days (the east cost, fortunately, not the desert side) -- I did live in Perth for a year, though. My favourite of our capital cities. Highgate woo! pandy Posted July 17, 2017 Hey girl! Welcome to the forums. I'm glad you decided to join up here. it's Pandy from FB!! I didn't know you were from Perth?! One of my besties whose in the dolly hobby is from that area :> I should tell her about you haha. Anyway if you ever have any questions around here everyone is super nice so I hope you feel welcome. As far as my first doll goes, I got her in a fullset. She was my dream sculpt for many years that I wanted to turn into my own character due to her 'mature look' that she had. (But also, I like her character in the anime/games too.) However her original release was very rare and very overpriced on the 2nd market so I sort of gave up for many years holding out hope she'd be released again someday. Then wouldn't you have it? She was released again! So I tried to enter the lotto for her but lost out. But luckily someone won two and was selling one of their's for a reasonable cost. So I jumped on her and the rest is history I'm glad I can help you with putting your first girl together. I had a 06 head once a loooong time ago. I was going to see about making my own custom but Rin came out and wrecked my plans. In the end I sold her outfit set and wig and eyes because I couldn't justify keeping it when i'd only use it on a rare occasion and I figured I could put the money towards getting her things. I do like both standard and limited release dolls. Honestly, For me it's about the face shape. Sense I like to make my own OCs. I think the only character i'd ever really keep as the initial character would be Hikaru Shidou of MKR if they ever made her! There's not many characters i'd keep as a doll because I feel like it would be sort of limiting for me. I like to write and make my own stories. Sugarpill Posted July 17, 2017 I don't think I've seen outfits or crafts from Australians at all now that you mention it. I've only ever seen a few really amazing face-up artists xD! And rural Victoria is really pretty, I spent quite a bit of time there when I briefly lived in Melbourne. -- Thank you for the warm welcome, and thank you for like the billionth time for helping me with everything!! And I'm so glad they re-released her! I bet that was really relieving! I'm really happy that you were able to get her for a reasonable price too. I don't know if I'll ever be able to get a fullset, I'd feel so bad with how long it'd take me to pay off XD But maybe one day! For me the face shape is the most important too. I'm with you on the customising thing- there are only two dolls that, if I ever got them, I'd keep them as their original character from the game/anime/etc. Rise Kujikawa specifically because she's one of my fave characters from one of my fave games and P.S I would love to hear some of your character stories sometimes! merry-go-round Posted July 20, 2017 Hi ! Welcome here and nice to meet you Sugarpill ^^ Wow ok, welcome to Dollfie dream World And for your question, my first DD. First I paid the head, and secondly the body. hmm...the character dolls...It's hard to say. But if you have a model that you like for the character he embodies, or the mold for your own character. I prefer the character mold, there are some who work more than standards for a character. At home : Hanae (DDS Chihaya)
Monty Posted July 21, 2017 Hey, my grandmother and her side of the family are from Perth! ...although I've never been further west than Melbourne myself... I'm from NSW, but staying in Japan at least one more year. I also started with pure neemos - they're super duper cute and are what got me interested in dolls to begin with. My first DD was Kagamine Rin, so a fullset - luckily for me her release happened around the same time I started a new job and could afford her. I dont even know if I could have otherwise. I got her because I love Kagamine Rin - but to be honest I'm kind of indifferent towards Kagamine Len, which is why I didn't mind changing my Len into one of my own characters. (I wasn't gonna get him originally but his sculpt was just too damn cute) I'm kind of 50/50 about the issue (literally - currently 2 of my DDs are left as the existing vocaloid characters and the other two are original characters), but unless Volks makes a standard numbered head sculpt that looks more mature than a 7, I'm waiting on them releasing a boy like Gilgamesh for another OC of mine. (Something I would have thought unthinkable a year ago but hey they've got 3 boys now and already have the Fate license so who knows...) I've never really done a tally on the ratio of people who keep the characters as is and who make them their own character but there's definitely plenty of the latter. *twitter*instagram*art*
