Kalle Posted July 20, 2017 So I bit the bullet and added yet another project to my ever-growing heap of projects. Specifically, I bought an Obitsu 65cm male body (for ridiculously cheap on Y!J too!!) with the intention of turning him into this dude. Look at how purple that guy is! I've seen orlien's leather painted MDD and have considered that, but has anyone tried the traditional dyeing method with colors other than tan? I mostly ask because they mentioned the wearing of the paint at the joints, and I was curious to see if a purple (or any 'non-traditional' skin color, really) dye would take well to doll vinyl / ABS parts as well as everyone's tan dolls would. Bellatrix Posted July 20, 2017 the idea is super cute! But isnt the character way too muscular for the obitsu body? ✩ 𝓥𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓶 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔁 ✩
Kalle Posted July 20, 2017 the idea is super cute! But isnt the character way too muscular for the obitsu body? Honestly, that's partially why I was considering the Vindoll, but after seeing comparison pictures I felt like it was too tall and a tad TOO beefy for what I wanted. Let's just call it artistic license. o;
elianti Posted July 21, 2017 Oh congrats! Please do tell what you think about your Obi65 guy! I'm still sorta interested in getting one for one of my guys(I'd rather not get more than one of the exact same bod, and a smart doll guy is already planned for one of them), but wasn't sure of how well the joint problems were fixed up. What head will you be using for him? And I'm quite sure you'll be able to dye him purple! I got a lot of red and orange results in my dye tests which are still kinda(?) normal, but I did try dyeing some parts with the black and turquoise idye Poly I had while dyeing clothes as well and I got pretty good results. I can't seem to find a lot of the pieces I used for tests including those so I don't have any pictures though. >_<" The colors came out super deep/strong because my dye bath was a lot more concentrated that what I normally use to get a light-ish tan. For your project I think you may need black as well one of the purples. I wish you luck if/when you do dye him! Dyeing is pretty hard to get right if you're going for a specific skintone and trying to get everything as even as possible;; I like how dyed vinyl feels more than painted but honestly painting would be a lot less stressful.. I actually need to get more spare/junk vinyl parts before dyeing my next obi/DD/smD hybrid girl because I don't have anymore and I really don't want to mess up too horribly.. I'm planning on using a DDH-07 head! I've noticed a lot of guy dolls around here use that, and I feel like that's the best fit for what I want. c: I also have a couple of the Greyforce neck adapters to test out on it as well. I remember reading your iDye thread! Bummer there are no pics of the black / turquoise results, the fact that it sounds like it went well is promising~ I'll probably want to get somewhere in the middle tone-wise, I guess, mostly because I also want his tattoos to show up when I paint them. Trial and error yaaay.
