SisterKyoya Posted August 3, 2017 Mommy: "What are you guys doing in the new mini fridge?" Rainie: "MOM! Close the door! It's too hot out there! These snowballs are going to melt!" Hana: *quietly* "Snow pixies." Mommy: "What happened to the other two shelves?" Rainie: "They were in the way so we took them out." Tama: "You can come join us if you want too Mommy." Mommy: "I would but it's too small..." ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
sinclair Posted August 3, 2017 It is nasty around here too. 100+ temps, nights only drop to the low 90's, high 80's if lucky. It's 40-60% humidity inside too. It wouldn't be so bad if there was actually rain.
K-2 Posted August 3, 2017 I saw those temp. readings on the Weather Channel. Trying to set some new record highs or something?
Poofiemus Posted August 3, 2017 I saw those temp. readings on the Weather Channel. Trying to set some new record highs or something? Actually, high the past couple days at 103 is lower than usual. End of the month, we'll probably be back to 115-120. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
SisterKyoya Posted August 3, 2017 Raven said that the news from Seattle was saying that today is 'super hot', breaking records for this time of year. High 80s, low 90s. Oh. Poor Seattle. How you suffer. Bouncing_Tigger Posted August 4, 2017 It's not quite as bad up here in Ontario, Canada...but it certainly isn't great. We are on the 5th day of temperatures about 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) and humid like crazy! It makes it very hard to do anything except to sit like a lump and sweat! At least during the winter you can keep adding clothes until you are warm. In heat like this there are only so many pieces of clothing you can take off in public without getting arrested!!! SisterKyoya Posted August 4, 2017 It makes it very hard to do anything except to sit like a lump and sweat! This is me every summer because my body can't regulate temperature as it should. Basically it's like living with perpetual heat exhaustion/heat stroke and I have to be very careful. My grandmother was the same and I never knew as a kid why her house was so cold. It also means I can't figure out for the life of me how to exercise during the hot months without risking passing out. So the coolest part in our house is our basement that I live in all summer which can last from late May to early October some years (worse case scenario) always having to keep a fan with me. Even going upstairs for 15 minutes or less depending on the time of day (less than 10 in the late afternoon) and my body goes on a full-on panic from the heat, my thought processes tank and I have extreme difficulty piecing even simple sentences together, my speech degrades to match, I start to shake, and my mind is filled with screaming due to the full-on panic attack my body is having. It hits a point where I can't cool off without some outside source because it starts generating heat. Nearly passed out entirely one day from just trying to take the time to cut my hair. I'm needing to look into again making those neck wrap things with the gel crystals, especially since we have the fridge downstairs now. With all of the stupid problems I have with my body, at least I've learned a ton of life skills. ~Sister Kyoya (who's life is totally WTF?!) Ie-Aster Posted August 4, 2017 I must admit, when I saw the title I was somehow expecting there to be snow in the pictures Snow seems like it would be more pleasant... Is it possible for you all to get a room A/C unit? Either a free-standing one or a window one. The window ones at least can often be found quite inexpensively on Craigslist and they also seem to decrease the effect of humidity. Even if you're able just to keep one room cool and comfortable that way, it sounds like it'd be a major quality of life improvement. Having a window A/C, or staying in the library till nightfall, were the only ways I survived Massachusetts summers (high 90s to low 100s, but I am also rather unusually heat-sensitive) when I lived there. Poofiemus Posted August 4, 2017 In AZ, most places actually have central AC--temps get so high you'd pretty much get heatstroke without it, no matter what your tolerance is. That said, it also means that summer electric bills wind up MUCH higher than winter ones. I.E., my electric bill in January was around $50. . . my bill for July was $188. And my place is less than 800sf! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
