MAGICAL MIRAI 2017 --DD Luka is Coming!!!!

I don't know what effect this has on release date, if any, but Luka is likely to be a preorder doll and not a lottery one, right?

 

The pre-orders this year were Saber and Jeanne. For Luka to be the next pre-order she would have been teased later this year, and not last year.

Even at six, that's more than we know about with what has been teased so far. There's the ones you mentioned, and the not-announced-but-shown prototype of Primula. Maybe there is also something else I don't remember.

I believe the point that was made about past teases was a year between seeing a promo of the characters official art with DD logos on the page like has been done with Kaede, Luka, and Nanao, and the actual doll being released. They need time to go from concept image to prototype to production. With Usagi there was no drawing tease, they had already produced physical dolls for sale when she was announced.

The Fate dolls were ordered last year, but they will be released this year. Volks got my money last year, but I get the doll this year, that makes them this year to me.

 

Sometime around the time they are due to ship the next pre-order project will be teased. If this was to be Luka she would probably have been teased then, and not before the Fate pre-order were announced. If she is the pre-order she wouldn’t be released until around Oct 2019. For the last few pre-orders, at least the ones I have paid attention to, they have released the first teasers just before the official announcement. They seem to like building suspense for pre-orders, but I don’t know that they have always done that.

 

In Usagi’s case they blindsided us.

 

In any event I am guessing here based on stuff that has come before, and what other people think is normal.

Yeah, I wrote a long post that I deleted after I checked and realized my premise was wrong. I thought all the Vocaloid DDs had been preorders and then found out that Rin and Len weren't, so there's no reason Luka would necessarily be either.

 

I made that assumption on Rin and Len because they've been randomly available on at least the Volks International site a fair bit just like Miku, and that seems especially unusual for a lottery doll. But then I read part of the long thread on their release here and learned the truth and the frustration it caused many.

From what I am reading Hatsune Miku was the 2013 pre-order project. It followed the same schedule as other pre-orders.

 

Revealed late August 2013, orders placed up to December 2013, delivered in fall of 2014.

 

Rin and Len were treated almost like standard releases. They didn't even have the word Limited on their web store entries at one point.

 

My first pre-order was Snow Miku, so yeah Vocaloids have been pre-orders. Has Volks teased a pre-order doll a year before announcing she is a pre-order before though? That's the part that makes me say "not Luka." The next one could totally be a Vocaloid, but I would think if so it's gonna be a different Vocaloid, and we would learn who in late summer/early fall 2018.

 

I got my first DD late 2014 iirc, so I'm not familiar with pre-orders prior to that. I'm sure a lot of people, myself included, would love Luka as the next pre-order, I just don't think that's gonna happen.

 

I like iM@S so I wouldn't complain about more easy to get, normally priced, iM@S DDs, but I think a lot of people would be disappointed if that happened. A new Million Live character might be a good option if it did turn out to be iM@S.

Speaking of that, the choice of Nanao as the first Million Live Dollfie would seem strange, since at this point most of the fanbase have pretty much set Mirai/Shizuka/Tsubasa as the main trio.

Kaede have the benefit of being a popular character (known fact, I've played the mobile browser game for years and prices of her cards are straight up brutal), in a popular card type for CG (Cool), voiced by a popular voice actress.

 

Then again Yuriko have the benefit of being voiced by a rather popular voice actress, plus she appeared on the IM@S movie.

According to the imas wiki her character became more popular after her VA performed one of her image songs while playing guitar, which is kind of cool if you ask me.

 

I’m not huge into idols, but one thing I did like about imas was how they sometimes showcased a talent of the VA. Like Chihaya singing a capella in one of the tv episodes. I get the impression for that show that they really cared about each character, and each character got a lot of focus. That’s hard to pull off with such a big cast.

They revealed the new Kei art for her at SnowMiku, I'm guessing this will be her box art. The placard also says 'now in development! as opposed to 'DD-afication announced'.

They also confirmed she will get her Senbonzakura outfit, which was kind of a given, but that's nice.

No info on her release but I'm still estimating May or August Dolpa.

That art is a bit...odd. It's like KEI drew a picture of specifically Dollfie Dream Luka.

 

What I mean by that is the eyes are done in a style that matches DD Miku and Rin, and typically Luka never looks like this. Her eyes aren't that large (tall) because she's always given a more mature look than the others. This makes her look much younger, and it's what I can imagine the doll could look like. Even in Project Diva F/F2/X, where the characters are all given a more cute style, Luka doesn't look this young.

 

Other than that, I think we can be sure now that she's getting her original outfit and not the V4X one since this still shows that outfit.

 

For me this is wait and see as I dislike like Volks' Miku and think she doesn't look like the character so I'm hopeful here but don't trust that I'll get a result I like.

If they go by the box art she definitely doesn't look like a DDDy as some were hoping. More like an M-Bust DD.

I actually didn't realize the art for Rin and Len was unique to Volks too, but it appears to be the case.

 

Still, I think this likely reflects overall what they're doing with her i.e. they're going for a younger look. KEI's art for Rin and Len still looks like how he (she? I don't know) usually draws them, while this Luka does not.

 

 

As to the other, I really really doubt she'll be a DDdy and I think that would be wrong for her too. While Luka is generally represented as more full-figured than Miku (perhaps an understatement), I've never seen her looking like a DDdy, and if anything Volks has been going more conservative with this aspect as I think most Miku art would suggest a S bust over SS as well.

I think you could also chalk this up to Kei's gradual change in art style too, though. I never saw Luka as super mature, just more mature than Miku, so as long as she doesn't just look like Miku with pink hair I'll be happy.

That's true; KEI's style has changed quite a bit from the original art for Miku and Luka's original software releases, and unlike with Miku where there has been a pretty continual stream of new art like all of the Project Diva covers, I don't know if there has been anything for Luka in a long time; if there has I haven't seen it anyway.

 

Especially with characters one really likes I know everyone maybe gets a little to into what they want or expect the dolls too look like; comments after the Sailor Moon reveal certainly reflect that.

 

I tend to like Volks' more mature looking sculpts* like Sheryl Nome or Takane so I think I'm just hoping for something like that. I think the official art for V4X Luka actually looks a lot like the Takane sculpt.

 

*Except Rise. Rise scares me.

Plus the loading splash screen is all of them together. IMHO, Meiko would be the only one to fit a DDdy body. Luka would be a DDIII as she isn't as curvy as Meiko with a M or L bust depending on which look you are going for. I think she'd really be in between the two, but Volks doesn't have half sizes. I think the L bust sticks out the correct distance, but are too big around. So I'd probably lean to M bust myself. Miku should have been a DDS with S bust. After playing the game so much, I'll probably upgrade her to that as she isn't as flat as Volks has made her. Rin is a SS bust for sure, but shorter than Miku (Who is shorter than Luka.), so a DDP for her and her brother.

 

But the question is what skin color will she be? I'm hoping for SWS like Miku. Then I'd probably get her and put her head on a MDD body with M or L bust. (Now you know why I hope she looks more youthful like in the art.)

My only PVC of Luka looks a lot like that drawing, including her bust, so in my head she should be DD-M. I know a lot of people are rooting for DDDY though. My thing is that a character should look like their canon art at point of sale. Once people have them in hand what they do as mods is their own affair. (And I'm not knocking character mods here at all, I do it from time to time.)

My pet peeve with Volks. They definitely need a size in between M & L, and L should only be used on canonically giant breasted characters like Kos-Mos, Kan'u, or Azusa Miura. Not only would it suit the character better, but it would make clothing fits so much better if they did SS - S & M - M+

Either bust is probably ok; in the Project Diva games the different models for her vary a bit especially between the arcade game where at least the older songs used a different style for the characters. I agree that Mieko is the one that could be a DDdy; it also fits with how she's the one that's more typically "flaunting it" in the PVs.

I can see reasons why this makes sense. But personally I'm one of those weird people that generally doesn't like the other body sizes. DDS doesn't just get you a shorter girl (that'd be perfect in my view) but an overall younger-looking one with most all body dimensions shrunk down. The larger heads start to look too large on it to me; i.e. I think a DD like your Yaya is great as a DDS, but feel Rin's head looks out of proportion on it. Because of that view I don't think I'll ever like a DDP because the heads just look huge on them no matter what and I think they look like children; I love Iori's head but the complete doll looks like a 10-year-old to me. While it's a bit of an exaggeration, DDPs start to veer into super-deformed or nendoroid territory for me.

Youthful or not, she's very likely to have a huge head like the rest of the DD Vocaloids. Just pointing that out as it could be what you're looking for in a MDD. Skin color is anyone's guess but I'm suspecting normal skin. Luka generally looks "pinker" in official art, and while the statement is no doubt marketing fluff, I think Miku is SWS for a special reason, not that it necessarily matched the art. The Snow Miku page discusses the changes made in Snow Miku's faceup http://www.volks.co.jp/miku/en/dd_snowmiku/ and says this:

Somewhere that I don't recall anymore discussed the notes Crypton gave KEI in designing Miku and it said something similar. So anyway I think Miku's SWS may have been an aspect of her "cool beauty" and "electronic-ness" or whatever; she's pale because she's like Star Trek: TNG's Data.

 

Yeah, I'm overanalyzing everything. I'm miserably sick with a cold and thus way too much time on my hands.

I'm really hoping she's an L. With how fitted her outfit is, an M would be highly unlikely to fit my girls...!
