MAGICAL MIRAI 2017 --DD Luka is Coming!!!!

First off my main concern was entirely if she was up to Raven's expectation. And I'm super happy that he is so happy with her. Even if he hadn't been looking for her for so long and I didn't know anything about Vocaloids I'd find her outfit weird but I would have still instantly fallen in love with her. She is just so adorable! I don't get the comments saying she looks nothing like Luka. I agree with Torino who said that she looks like she stepped out of Project Diva because she does.

 

As for her mouth, when Raven started expressing the notion of having it changed I totally put my foot down. It is perfect and adorable. (Seriously I do not need more customs to juggle either.) I love how different that small detail makes her look and it seems totally right to me. She is a singer. Period. And the way her mouth looks especially with the microphone is that she is either singing softly or taking a breath before belting out whatever tune she feels like. So much so that I keep hearing the breath sound you can add in the actual Vocaloid software. I was in choir for 6 years and it made a massive impact on my life. You have to breathe when you sing. And seriously, is being licked by Luka such a bad thing. "Nope, you don't taste like a tuna!" Seriously, just give her cat ears and she can go around licking everything. Our kitten does.

 

As for the teeth version: I really hate it. she looks like she's grimacing. Or like she has an evil smile. It would look so totally wrong in photos with the mic. You have to have your mouth open to look like the mic is even being used.

 

As for her body it really does look like an L Shapely bust because it doesn't bulge out on the sides like the L bust does. Naiomi is a DDS but I have dealt with her L Shapely bust plenty and it has a bit more 'boxy'/compact look to it, just like Luka seems to have. And I totally agree that those are NOT DDdy hips. I really don't mind anymore if she is a DD or a DDdy because Raven is happy with her and she still looks right to me.

Not sure about this sculpt - as with Sheryl and Towa, I expect the mouth will look different in the final product. But I think I would repaint her anyway- with teeth and a slight smile she could be really cute. Her head shape is perfect for a lot of late 80s/early 90s anime characters

As I expected, the teeth are a big improvement, but I still don't like her.

 

To those saying she looks just like she does in Project DIVA I really disagree.

The arcade version has generally had a slightly more "real" look but in both cases her eye shape is far more like DDH-07 instead of the round type they used for her DD, and nowhere to be seen is that chin with the reverse curve to a point like that.

Maybe that's it too. I'm not sure if that's the right period but there is a time somewhere in there when anime character design took a turn I really didn't like with the pointy chins. (I don't like pointy chins if it's not obvious by now lol.)

 

What I will agree with is that Volks took Project DIVA as their inspiration on how they did the eye makeup on all their Vocaloids. I suspect here they used an eye shape to match what they did with Miku and Rin, but it makes her look more like a Volks Miku cosplaying Luka than actual Luka IMO.

 

I think the eyes are far too bright blue as well.

Newer versions of Miku's software have changed her outfit, slightly, but Miku's appearance hasn't changed that much, while Luka's has. I would've much preferred the DD to have been V4, just as I would've preferred Miku had the then-current V2 outfit, which is even what Volks has on the art on the box.

 

(In the end it’s a bit odd to me to complain about vocaloids not looking like the character when what they look like can vary drastically depending on who draws them anyway.

I think that comment cuts both ways. Because the characters can look different we get our own ideas of what they are supposed to look like. I also kind of suspect that the more a character means to someone the more critical they are...at least that's the impression I get from how many felt Sailor Moon didn't turn out like they hoped or expected, knowing what that cartoon means to many, while for me (who has never seen the show) she looks cute and recognizable as the character.

 

Anyway, I decided a couple of months ago that chances were I wasn't going to like what Volks did with her and arranged to have a custom painted. It was my probably last chance with an artist who is ending commissions so I went ahead and obviously it was the right choice for me.

 

I'm hoping for some really nice extra outfits for her from Volks; it would be really awesome if they made that Blackjack set.

 

AH! I love her. I've been waiting to see what she looks like in doll form for a bit now, and I think she came out lovely. I just hope she's going to be released a little bit later this year. I have no idea how soon releases come out when they have the prototypes done like this (I'm pretty new to this hobby!!), but I'd like a chance to save up for her first.

 

I do like her V4X outfit better too, but they've released the other ones with the original outfits too, so I guess this would be no different. I still really like her.

I kind of agree that she doesn't look quite like Luka, but she is stunning in her own right. I want to see photo's from the displays though. Volks photo's never really do their sculpts justice.

 

Kind of on the fence right about her right now. I like her, but with two iM@S girls in the works, and with Kaede being my favorite Cinderella Girl, who stole the whole show in one single episode, I'm not sure I want to spend on this Luka right now.

I am really fond of Luka's promo photos thus far. I have already been crushing on Snow Miku for a while not but haven't committed to adopting her. Luka might just have to jump to the front of the want line now. I really like how her teeth are showing a little bit, it's such a nice departure from the usual mouth sculpt.

I said it about Towa, and I'll say it here: I think she looks derpy with that mouth.

Truth. I’d be painting her for sure. Oh Volks.

I feel really mixed about Luka right now. I LOVE the sharp chin and the general shape of her head. What I don't like is her mouth. The pink makes it look like she's sticking her tongue out and it looks kinda derpy. I much prefer the teeth edit.

 

I'm probably still gonna save and try to get Luka because she's my favorite vocaloid.

I’m not a Luka fan (though Just Be Friends is great and if they did the outfit I would want it) but yeah she looks so great overall except for her mouth! Jadepixel’s edit looks far nicer in my opinion, that being said though I’m glad there are people that like her mouth as it is! Honestly, I like the slightly open mouth looks more often that not, but this seems a little off to me. Though I can see what they were going for with her.

 

As an aside, now that Luka is on the way I wonder what outfits they’ll be releasing. I would be surprised if the outfits from Magnet weren’t released since there’s already a Miku doll to release them with. I mention JBG before which I really like from an aesthetic point of view, but what else could there be? Hmmmmm....

I think I want to see more pictures. I would love to see that head from more angles.

 

Right now, I am not sure what to make of that mouth. I think part of that is the fact I have never seen anything like that before... (I am not all that experienced in DD’s yet.). Once I get accustomed to the look, I may be able to figure out if I like the mouth, want to edit the mouth, or try for a custom using a different head...

Unless theres a surprise in Volks News on monday (or on twitter today/tomorrow) I'm a little surprised myself that its only Luka confirmed for Dolpa so far. Single DD releases aren't unheard of, but this is Joint Fest, and thats usually pretty big. For example last year we had 3 SDs and 2 DDs (ok two of the SDs were YoSDs but still...the DDs were Kirito/Asuna) but so far Luka is all Volks have shown. They typically would have teased all the new dolls by now, and even if Luka is the only DD, it seems weird to me that there would be no other dolls whatsoever, whether DD/SD... Its true that Emilia came out on her own, but thats only because she was originally meant to come out with Ruri, who then got delayed due to her whole outfit needing to be changed. I otherwise cant think of any Dolpas with only one single doll, DD or SD, and especially not JointFest.

 

However the announcement for Volks News coming out at all was delayed (they announced that late Friday the same time as Luka, instead of as a generic announcement on Wednesday like usual) so maybe theres just other news that's delayed...? I dunno. I shouldnt be disappointed that theres less dolls to hurt my wallet lol. I'm pretty sure last year I thought I was safe after only seeing the DDs and then Volks announced the rerelease of my grail SDC Renee a little later...

I'm sorry: / But 2B is likely to be heavily in the lottery. Because to my knowledge, Volks has never announced so far in advance a pre-order.

I imagine that 2b will be released alongside 9s and she'll probably be on the cover too. My expectation is maybe a Idolmaster girl for the second doll. I'll be very surprised if there isn't one considering there wasn't any DD's for the last event.

 

I'm really liking Luka even though I'm not so big on her. Her open mouth seems more appropriate as she's singing as opposed to smiling. Nice that she looks to be coming with a mic too. Hopefully she's not too expensive.

And Ritsuko. She is technically an idol in the games and the TV series, although who knows if that will carry over to a Volks release. I liked her, but I'm not sure if she would be very popular.

 

They have a few announced dolls without prototype teases, and it just seems to me like Nanoa is a bit short compared to the others. Of course I would have figured 2B & 9S would be next and Luka would release around the next Magical Mirai.

 

I wouldn't complain if it was Kaede or any other iM@S release.

 

Either way I am looking forward to seeing who it is.

You shouldn’t have mentioned Ritsu. Here, I’ve been saying that once I get Luka, I’ll have everybody I need for the time being, and won’t be getting any more DD sized girls for a long time, then you have to go and remind me about her. I’m perfectly content with SK having their own way with all the other Im@s girls, modding and swapping and changing them around, but if Volks ever gets around to releasing Ritsuko, she is MINE.

The other dolls turned out to be two SDGr girls and a rerelease of Sheryl/Ranka for the 10th MF anniversary (yeah, I’m weirded out too...)

But Luka comes with Takoluka!

Her price is 69000 without tax which shocked me because that’s cheaper than Rin/Len even though her outfit is more elaborate and she comes with more...? Not complaining.

Edit: was thinking of Rin/Len’s price after tax, she’s more expensive than Rin but sliiightly cheaper than Len but still surprising considering she comes with not only Takoluka and the stand mic but an extra set of hands!
