I'm even more curious about the release date now. Is it confirmed lottery?

Yep, that was already a given if she was Dolpa. It’s the same method as Sailor Moon where she’s part of the Sumika store instead of her own booth, but that doesn’t affect web orders. I guess that’s just how they’re doing Dolpa stuff from now on.

Edit: to be clearer, she’s released on May 5th at Dolpa, after which you can expect to see a bunch of owner pics, and then the actual lottery I assume starts when the AfterEvent does...? (May 27th for DD stuff) as usual the specifics of the web lottery aren’t known yet. (Ie results date)

Aw I really like her sculpt! One of my top favorite vocaloid voices.

They seem to have done a very nice job on the outfit, I see it's lined where they could. The skirt and stains scare me a bit though. I also really want that microphone regardless if I'd get her or not...

She looks fabulous!

If someone don't like her head and want to split it... with the wig too, maybe...? xDD

but if Volks ever gets around to releasing Ritsuko, she is MINE.

 

Of the remaining unreleased original girls only Azusa is a higher priority for me than Ritsuko.

 

The other dolls turned out to be two SDGr girls and a rerelease of Sheryl/Ranka for the 10th MF anniversary (yeah, I’m weirded out too...)

But Luka comes with Takoluka!

Her price is 69000 without tax which shocked me because that’s cheaper than Rin/Len even though her outfit is more elaborate and she comes with more...? Not complaining.

Edit: was thinking of Rin/Len’s price after tax, she’s more expensive than Rin but sliiightly cheaper than Len but still surprising considering she comes with not only Takoluka and the stand mic but an extra set of hands!

 

Thank you for that. The Volks news pages with the extra outfits sold me on her, and with Macros as the other release Luka is now an option. If it had been Kaede I’d be risking both lotteries, and be totally ok with winning/keeping two of her. Kaede is that awesome a character.

Also, previous speculation about bust and body type. Looks like a L bust to me? Actually looks like she probably is a DDdy? The bust looks pushed-up like either a DDdy or a DD3 shapely bust, and to my knowledge the latter has never been used on a licensed doll has it?

Luka looks like a DDIII with shapely L bust, her thighs don't look thick enough for a DDdy.

Beatrice and Kos-Mos come to mind as licensed characters with that bust too.

Thanks I didn't know those came with that bust but I'm obviously not familiar with the details of all the dolls.

 

Anyway, we were all wrong. I can make out from the magazine scans now that Luka has the L flat bust. I guess it's the cut and tailoring of the outfit that makes it look otherwise. One thing I noticed is they seem to have really tucked the waist in accentuating the really narrow waist of the DD body, which I don't notice on most outfits.

Most likely lotto, but she'll probably be some what available at events and after lotto like the other vocaloids. Hoping it's the same case. I think this time I'll do Volks USA.

Apologies if my photoshop fakery was confusing! I put the text 'mockup' on my version but it's easy to miss. It's fine if anyone would like to use that image for their blog, etc.

 

The more I see Luka the more I like her, even without teeth. The outfit looks really well made, too- much better than the Sailor Moon release did in Volks photos. Hopefully she's less difficult to get ahold of like the other Vocaloid characters have been.

I’m having some trouble understanding why people don’t like Lukas mouth? Didn’t everyone really like Towa when she was released as a standard model? Their mouths are nearly identical! I understand limited girls being held to a different standard than Volks own, but I don’t see how it should be a problem.

 

I really like her, but I’ll have to wait and see about getting her second hand. I would actually be kind of relieved if the other dolls are Sheryl and Ranka this time. I do really want Luka too, but I have a baby coming in July and need to save as much as possible. Hopefully she will be as popular and rereleased later as The other vocaloids!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't like Towa's mouth either, nor Haruka, nor ones with the kitty mouth like Akira or Airy so I'm consistent at least.

From what I noticed, a lot of people really liked Towa’s official photos and then didn’t like the owner photos. So I’m hoping Luka will be the opposite. I think it’s kinda odd and interesting that there’s almost no middle ground - people seem to either REALLY like or REALLY dislike her. I like her a lot myself and appreciate that she manages to look similar to Miku/Rin/Len while still being unique. But I also look forward to seeing what her sculpt is capable of and what new faceups could bring.

Well, I don't dislike Luka, I'm just saying that she doesn't look her age.

Instead of being 20, she looks like Miku, who is 16.

I'm with you; she looks too young, but I also see what they were going for. As Torino points out, Volks made her in a way that's very consistent with DD Miku/Len/Rin, and that KEI art for her they are apparently using as their reference makes her look young as well, probably even younger than the doll.

The only one of those examples that looks older than Luka to me are Takane and Sheryl...? I really don’t get how people aren’t seeing her as looking obvious older than Miku because I think her maturity comes out pretty well...? Not to mention art style changes things a lot - For example I mentally cannot help thinking of Rei Ayanami as being younger than 18, but shes 14. (and to be honest, a face look Sheryl would definitely look too mature for Luka’s canon artwork. I’ve seen a really nice custom of Luka using Sheryl though, but they’re not basing her on fan art)

I have a feeling we’ll keep arguing about this until the Dolpa photos lol. But I’m more hoping for her to come to the Fu kuoka store because I can get better photos there - it’s one of the only stores where they don’t put them behind glass.

I'll just add one more thing for context to my own view before I hopefully stop griping about this because I don't want to come across as putting down anyone who likes what they did here.

 

I feel that all of the Vocaloid DDs look younger than they should. I somewhat dislike DD Miku which is why I've made a custom (that I hope I can share pictures of soon) though the slight changes they made to the faceup and eye size with Snow Miku mostly fixed my issues there, and while I think Rin is kinda the cutest thing ever and does look like the character, I still think she looks too young as well.

 

That said, I don't really get any feeling that Luka looks any older than the others at all.

Well now ya lost me lol, Rin actually doesn't look young enough to me and she'd probably look more accurate on a DDP body - they tried to compensate by making her head really big to make her body look smaller though, so even though I considered switching her body I imagine she'd look kinda bobble-headed on the DDP due to that. (its not a huge deal to me because it means we got the DDSBoy body out of it, but seeing Rin the same height as other DDS girls is odd sometimes.)

But out of all the loids the only one who I think dramatically doesnt resemble the character is Len. But that suits me just fine, because I didn't get him to be Len anyway, and he's one of my fave sculpts Volks has done.

l like Luka, but I'm pretty disappointed, she's not a DDdy, I always imagined Luka would be one, but oh well. I think her face is super cute and I love her mouth sculpt.

I guess at the end of the day, maturity on anime dolls is a matter of opinion. I mean, most of those doll examples a few posts above doesn't look 'older' than Luka to me.

 

Some dolls look mature to others, and sometimes they don't. Meaning, depending on what image you have in mind for a character, based on your personal perspective and likings can highly alter what we see, and what we like. There isn't really a right or wrong.

 

I think she looks perfect to what I wanted for Luka, she's looks older than Miku to me, and her expression is very fitting. But I also respect that she isn't the Luka other's depicted.

 

Can't wait to see owner pictures of her, though, I am very impressed for some reason that she'd be coming with the entire mic stand considering long poles like that are commonly fragile.

I don't really know enough about Luka's character to argue, I was under the impression she was the older more mature looking vocaloid. If people who like her are happy then I'm glad, a lot seem to be so that's a good thing.

So what's the artwork they're basing her off of I guess? I'm looking at pics and her face is somewhat slimmer than Miku's which I guess is what I expected. I suppose the more defined chin is how they're portraying that?

 

But I'm with Kumi on her not looking older. Those other dolls are good examples of how a still somewhat fuller face can look more mature. Airy and Neris are both great examples of having a pudgier cheeks and looking a little older. Even had she looked more like Takane who also has fuller cheeks she'd look older.

It's the chin (which I like)Volks gave her with the fuller cheeks. It's very much like a young baby face.

Volks could have pulled this look off while staying true to the art style. They just didn't.

 

But it's true that Volks photos are always poop so opinions may change depending on more pics.

Volks has sold mic stands before, long ago...They just come in a couple pieces you have to put together. They are also safely placed in plastic, so I don't think anyone has had a problem with them breaking during shipping.
