I think your disappointment is justified.

Danny: ‘never gonna sell that again, lol except these exclusive babes I conceived and birthed with no warning, and sell off, in the shroud of night, before you even wake.’

Thank you for understanding. ^_^ That description is accurate though. Seriously, he said that she'd be made in the future, but not just TEN.

A cocoa guy? Oh man. I REALLY hope one with a sculpt other than Eiji's comes out in that skin tone. I'm already gonna be using that one for someone else and it isn't the best fit for the guy I have in mind anyways.

Those ten dolls were prototypes. The mold broke and because the design didn't sell well enough, it just wasn't financially viable to make a new one. Not everything is an evil scheme, you know.

I know this is sorta old, but I love the new cocoa more realistic, an actual dark skinned person could have this skin tone, I wish more companies made them this dark, more diversity is always good.

I do like the old one though, I wish they would make that an option for someone to buy.

Can anyone tell me if Ruby and Harmony have the same head sculpt? I have a Harmony and I'm loving Ruby, but I'm not really interested in actually buying her if it's the same head sculpt.

I'm seriously bad at identifying faces.

No, Harmony is the Mirai/Kizuna mold whereas Ruby is the Starlight/Sana mold.

Danny’s been teasing with pics of a Cocoa boy again. Supposedly, he is showing that new jeans for guys will be out soon. But the model can only be deliberate...

I hope this boy will be shown soon...

I personally won't be getting the new cocoa boy once he's released, but I will always be willing to recommend Smart Doll to people who are looking for a 1/3 anime doll in a realistic POC skintone! I know a lot of people really liked the old cocoa, but...it was very much a fantasy colour.

He/Him --- I like making stuff --- Please don't make sexual/lewd comments about my dolls, thank you!

I agree! While I am disappointed I never got the original Moonlight (dark elf anyone?) the new tone is much more natural looking. Justice is my girl right now, I am kinda hoping her release is delayed until next summer because of selfish reasons, I do plan to get her. As for the boy. I already have Lelouch and Crimson is in my game plan too, however I do not think I will get the cocoa boy unless he floors me. I already see myself having a total of 5-6 Smart Dolls without him and seven dolls from the same brand is a bit excessive in the kind of collection I have. "Can't have 'em all."

Speaking of a Dark Elf.. This is what I did with the Ruby I just picked up from the Post office on Thursday..

I've named her Yao, and I have her full set outfit coming from Stacie's Pink Ocean.

I love the old Cocoa color. I was very lucky and I order the last Chitose in the old Cocoa. As soon as I click the order button she went out of stock.

This her now. I wish I had the money back then to buy the extra hands and a bigger bust in the old Cocoa color. But I nearly had money to buy her. Best decision ever because I'm not a fan of the new Cocoa color. It I see beautiful but not what I like

She always looks so nice! I'm the same as you on the older skin color, I really prefer it over the new version. If you are on Facebook, you sometimes see the older cocoa busts come up for sale but it's not often. Let me know what size you're after and I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Thank you. Your Moonlight is so beautiful. I wish I would have gotten one when she was on sale. But when I found about her she was already out of stock, and she never came back with the old Cocoa color. I'm actually looking for a XL or a XXL bust. When I order Chitose I only had money for the basic set and the Large bust. Is the one she use now. I wish my photo could capture the beauty of the skin and the dress. Her skin is darker and the dress too but the flash make them look lighter somehow

Thank you about my Moonlight! Like your Chitose, I got one of the very last Moonlights available online. I made sure to get as many different busts as I could for her at that time but was able to get the older XXL bust and the XXL Kai bust thru a friend when she visited the Mirai Store earlier this year. I really want the medium bust for Moonlight tho, that way I have every bust size for her if I want to change things around. If you see one around do let me know please.

I will keep my eyes open for the XL or XXL busts for you sir! If I find one I will let you know immediately.

I hope I am at the right place for my question.

After getting my first Smartdoll girl last year, I am eyeing the upcoming releases and one of the Cocoa girls

looks like she could be what I was looking for, for my next girl.

Though, after talking with a friend about it, she mentioned that the colour, the tone appaers in photos, represents in 'no way' (to say it in her words) the real colour of Cocoa.

She said I should imagine it more like a really, really, dark matte chocolate,

going more in the direction of black, then brown colourwise.

Obviously I asked myself, if the photos would actually be that misleading, they would already be a huge backlash and people would post tons of pictures as to why they are unhappy or something like this.

Still nobody seems to complain, which makes me believe it can't be 'that bad', as my friend claims.

I have no chance to see the skintone somewhere first hand myself, but to all the cocoa owners out there:

Is that true, that the colour I see in pictures isn't actually the colour of Cocoa in person?

Was anyone ever disappointed about a significant colour difference upon arrival?

And would there be a chance to ask for something like a colour sample from the store?

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

GrimFandango, first I, of course, have to ask if you have searched for owner photos on flickr, or instagram, and such..?

The more different owner-pics you look up the better grasp on the hue you should get.

And would there be a chance to ask for something like a colour sample from the store?

I think the chance is quite high that they'd comply. But you might have to offer to pay for shipping..?

If you make an order you can most definitely ask for a "junk piece", in cocoa skin, to be sent in your order! (I've asked for pieces for stain-testing, when I placed an order in the past)

Thank you for the response.

I looked at a lot of different photos, but since the colour seems to look different every time, it's hard to tell how it actually looks in person.

Everything I have to go off, are the pictures my friend sended me, that are (according to her) the closest representation of the Cocoa skin tone she found.

Which would be actually so very different, that I wonder, why I saw nobody ever name the issue.

(I f there is actually one, since obviously, I can't tell if my friend is exaggerating or not, or if the colour actually looks like that.)

You gave me a good feeling about the sample route though.

I will ask for tea and Cocoa samples, next time I order and hope they have a few laying around, they could part with.

Honestly the skint tone names shouldn't be used as an *exact* match to their the actual shade of their skin. Milk is technically white and obviously the Milk girls are more of a light peachy color. And tea is only light brown when you put milk in it. Cocoa is brown therefore the girls are definitely brown. Darker skin tones are a bit more difficult to photograph properly so that is probably why you see so many different variations of the skin tone.

Sorry, English isn't my first language, maybe I worded it wrong.

I wasn't expecting it to look like "Cocoa".

I am just searching for a good representation how the tone actually looks like.

As you said yourself, it's difficult to catch the real tone in photos and that's why it looks different on each and every one of them.

Leaving me still with the question: how does it actually look in person?

But thank you very much for the response and concern.

I bought Unity several months ago and in person she was quite dark. I really loved her skin tone, and her face up. She was a beautiful doll. BUT, I couldn't see her facial features or face paint very well unless I had VERY good lighting. I could get her to photograph well with flash or if I had a lot of light on her.

In the end I sent her back, if you have good lighting in your house it would be fine. I live in a sunny climate, but my house is very dark

Here are some of my photos of Unity when I had her, the first two photos kind of convey how she actually looked unless I was right up close to her. The last photo was with the blinds open and as much light as I could get on her and taking the photo by the window:

Ahh unity is so pretty! That's a shame about the darkness though, it would suck if you could only play with her in bright light. Maybe that's why newer cocoa girls seem to have highlighted faceups?

I really liked her, but unless I get some sun facing windows and way more light in the house I couldn't enjoy her. Even my husband said she was gorgeous when you could SEE her.

It's beautiful! It's really cool that there are more skin colors to choose from than just the regular snow white to not as snow white.

Shoot, it's a good thing I saw this before Majesty's release. Unfortunately I don't get much natural sunlight in my house and my current schedule means I'm not at home much in the daytime... I really love her design and was planning to get her (or Prowess, maybe, but Majesty was the one I really had my eye on), but if I can't see her face details unless she's in bright sunlight, I may have to pass- or at least prioritize other dolls on my wish list over her for the moment.

Does anyone else have more pics or info about how Cocoa dolls look in different lighting? Especially the more recent ones with, as someone above said, "more highlighted" faceups? I might be able to manage trying to just take more outdoor photos, but I'm not sure if I'd want to be limited in that way. I guess one positive of Prowess is that her facial markings really stand out, but I have a specific character in mind for Majesty and it's not really suited towards backyard photoshoots- think futuristic utopia and robots.

Which makes me wonder how Cocoa in Cortex would look in the same kind of lighting. It's a different material, so maybe it might behave/reflect light differently? I know that from the pic Danny posted a while back, it's not the same exact color as the vinyl version. I'm not sure if I'd mind but it depends on how much I'm interested in Cortex once they're released.

Currently watching BNHA, 1-2 episodes behind on the anime rn and absolutely obsessed! (being in a fandom late has made dodging spoilers an issue tho :()

More into Nendoroids and my resin BJDs rn- including some BNHA character shells hehehe :)- my Smartdolls are boxed up at the moment but I'm still happy to talk dolls and doll plans!
