Things you wished volks changed

Recommended Posts

I’d like to see the general release of the DDH-09 head. With the new exclusive head molds out there now, it be nice if that head mold could be ordered through Volks International or Volks USA.

I’d also love to see more colour variety of eyes. And I am sorry, Volks, but your current DD wig selection is not at all impressive. We need colours!

I’d also would like to see DDP, DDSB and DDB base bodies.

Last month they released two USA exclusive dolls, if that counts. DearSD Tiffany and Vanessa were at Dolpa LA 3.

For me what I'd like to see them change is a larger number of dolls in each limited release. More winners would be nice, and given the number of losers we see in the lotteries it's clearly not a lack of demand.

I'd say Takane was only slightly less difficult to win than Powerball.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Was thinking about this just now - Miku gets rereleased so often, but her hand parts never do. As someone who got a Miku way after they stopped selling those, it stings a bit to have to hunt them down on the aftermarket (while a lot of the people there are reasonable, there are some that are kinda...optimistic. 8000 yen for hand parts? you havin a laugh mate? whatever). Since my Miku only came with 'natural' hands, so far I've only managed to get holding ones and 'paper' ones...which are deka hands, something I didnt realize when I bought them, and since I dont like the giant deka hands i'll have to sell those anyway. I'd really like to eventually get the whole set though.

And yes I know I could just buy some SW hands and paint the nails - to be honest I'm just tempted to do that at this point - but then I'd have to buy paint as well and have to worry about doing it perfectly (my hand shakes a bit so this would be difficult but not impossible), plus i just appreciate that the Miku hands came with wrist pegs already on so its really easy to swap them.

so yeah, I wish they'd do even a small rerelease for those next time they release Miku again (which'd probably be around SnowMiku next feb)

For the Miku hands, Cool-cat has them at a decent price last I checked. I bought from there to finish my complete Miku hand collection.

They're charging US49 each for them though, not exactly 'decent' imo :/ The ones I manage to get off yahoo every now and then are usually about 3600 yen max. I've just gotta be patient I guess. They pop up in mandarake now and then too. I just wish Volks would rerelease them so I could get them at RRP.

US49 compared to US33 when Volks USA had them isn't bad when on eBay they are US70. I guess I was willing to pay it as I only had to get one more hand set. But if you can get them on JYA for closer to MSRP, go for it. I just get lost on that site as I know zero Japanese, so I don't bother looking.

Basically if you live outside the US and have to pay conversion rates, almost nothing in USD is a 'decent price', although thats just the sad truth of online shopping. US49 is currently over 5500 yen (and over $62AUD) which is a pretty big hike from the original 3000 yen. It's an awful lot to pay for just hands, even if they are Miku hands.

I was surprised that there is a place still selling them 'normally' like that, though. I wonder how much stock they have.

Being they've had them for so long, I was worried at first that they were just painting none Miku hands and selling them as such, but they came in the Miku hand box. So they must have a lot of stock, or just a few and no one really figured out they had some.

I really wish they find a way to make their vinyl stain free. It's so annoying not to be able to wear the clothes you want on your girls for fear of staining them

This and every company working with vinyl would need to work together to solve this mystery. I've yet to work with any vinyl made doll that didn't stain at some point or another. I guess that is the downside of a softer material?

~~~~
Honestly, I know I'm probably the only person who wants this, and I know it'd never happen....Resin DDs. I would love regular releases of resin made DDs. I would happily pay the up in price to never have to worry about staining (an if they do it is less of a painful thing to deal with--magic eraser yo). As someone who has almost her entire hobby life (going on 12 years~) been into resin dolls I simply prefer this material. I like the weight because they make it feel sturdy (plus my first doll was a 70cm boy so like, weight doesn't bother me!).
I think with this the potential for masculine DD would go up cause they already have male bodies, just need to anime styled heads as well. I just see a lot of pros and very few cons. I think the only weird thing is that they'd need to go back to a strung body like the DDI, but they probably could make it happen with very little work.
Either way, it would make me very happy. I envy those that got the few that have gone up for auction...o3o
*Dreams of a masculine DD on SD17 body~~~*
Furniture would be amaaazing. Nice, proportioned furniture, with scale details, none o' that bloated painted-plastic barbie stuff! watches as wallet explodes I will say sometimes you can have luck on this stuff in Goodwill or antique shops.
Know what I wish Volks would do? Bishounen. Slowly they seem to be releasing males, and they have the male body out now. But getting some classic long-face handsome men in here for our ladies would be top notch.
I think the current DD boy body is still too, well, boyish for most bishounen types. I hope to see a lot more in future - the last 10 or so years of collectable culture has significantly revealed that women are willing to throw down cash for plastic men despite people insisting a lack of interest. I remember years and years ago people used to have discussions about why there werent more male nendoroids (which seems hilarious now) and there'd always be that one person saying 'because there's no interest, duh, male nendos would never sell!' And now there's so many Goodsmile had to create a separate label for them and the rest of the female-oriented figures (orange rouge). There's been this stereotype for years that 'SDs are for women and DDs are for men', and yet I am constantly surprised when I go to doll events and meet dealers for DD clothes/faceup artists I assumed were men on twitter but who turn out to be women, and there were plenty of men with multiple SDs in Tenshi no Sato when I visited. I don't know if that stereotype once held true since I came into this hobby later than most but its definitely not one that's reliable any more.
Still, the boys that have come out so far have come alongside a reliable female costar (Kagamine Rin, Asuna, 2B), which is understandable. I predict that if they're going to release boys on their own, the obvious choice would be some of the Fate boys or something else they already have the license too... only thing is besides maybe Shirou I think they need a 3rd male body to be truly accurate to characters like Gilgamesh and Archer. But hey, there's 5 different girl bodies now, so one can wait and hope.
What I'd really like to see is a vinyl equivalent of their SDGou or SDGraffiti boy bodies... I'd rather wait till something like that exists until we get some longer faces.
*bangs fists on table* GIVE. ME. YAOI. HANDS. AND SHOULDERS BROADER THAN THE SEAS.
This hobby is littered with a number of stereotypes, all of which can be rather unfortunate, but I think that is a big one. "Our customer base is male, so we just want female DDs". Customer base ASIDE I think mature, male DDs would go over ALARMINGLY well, for all collectors (including those orbiting in the periphery). You raise a good point however, they've all been 1; popular in their own right and 2; alongside a female to 'match' them.
But haven't they also sold remarkably well? I hope Volks looks at that and decides to make some standard males and branch out from there. That said the Gou/Graffiti body would make lovely masculine men in vinyl...but clothes can make up for a lot of build differences in the meantime.
I wish they sold the standard model heads separately. Painted, not blank.
And I wish they have movable eye mechanisms that you could buy optionally.
And that they offered actual brown eyes. Not that odd orange colour.
I also think they need to offer more clothing, that is stain tested, as well as white/beige wig caps for sale to make custom wigs.
Hands with longer nails.
I wish Volks offered uni torso pieces for white skin girls. It's obvious why they don't offer it(Since the white skin is nearly obsolete, I'm surprised they used white skin for Santa Saber) , but it would be awesome to at least custom order the pieces. I would be willing to pay more money just to get a unitorso for my white skin girl.
I might end up having to swap her to normal or semi white skin though, the chances of Volks ever making the unitorso for white skin girls are slim to none.
I wish that, when ordering a base body, you could choose the bust size. I understand that it’s a money-bringer for them to only offer one bust size for their base bodies (“Want a different bust size for your girl? Cool! You just have to pay an extra $30 for it.”), but I still think it’s unfair for those who want a smaller or larger bust size for their girl.
OMG YES! Ten times yes!
I love dolls with larger busts and not being able to choose it when ordering has always put me off from buying a base body 'cause even having to add the cost of the option part requires one or two months of savings for me.
Plus, pretty much all the resin companies offer this option, so why not Volks?
Their website. It's insanely slow. I have 100mbps but their main page which is 3.38mo needs more than 13s to load (without cache oc)! In 2017, that's unbelievable. I tested it on PageSpeed Insights and it got a score of... 6/100 haha (dollfiedreams.com is 74/100 for example). I use this site a lot and I guess a lot of us does but it pains me so much just at the thought of clicking on the bookmark to access it because I know I will have to wait way too much at every new click.
The online store is as bad. When I remember google saying that "2 seconds is the threshold for e-commerce website acceptability", it makes me laugh hard when thinking about Volks online store.
Please, Volks, do something. Browsing your website is a terrible experience.
SO MUCH THIS for Volks Int. It's also terribly organized, and does not adapt to mobile AT ALL--which, considering how many people browse on their phones these days, is really awful.
Volks USA's site isn't great, but at least it's got outfits cross-referenced by size in addition to collection, and they've updated the design sometime in the last decade. I think the international site has had the same design since I first laid eyes on it in 2004 or so.
In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Yep, the site needs an overhaul. I luckily don't have to bother using it because I tend to just go to the physical store here, but sometimes I want to check prices of stuff and it's just like...yikes.
I agree but I would say I kind of like the terrible organization because I feel like an explorer. You don't know when you will find a link to a page you had no idea was here and which contains interesting data. The problem is when you want to go back to the page later and you totally forgot how you got here haha.
I mean, their navigation is done with... banners.
