FGO X Dollfie Dream : Jeanne d'arc and Saber

Holy moly on the price! But it is Saber and that price is typical of what her price range is and that armor IS awesome. My wallet is gonna be crying since I want them both. I need to start putting money away now or I will need to sacrifice Jean. I also don't know what they're going to come out with in December and depending on whether they're making someone I like, I might be entering the lottery for that. Also, I am planning on getting Nami as my first smart doll so that going to put a dent on my budget. Why is this hobby so expensive!

 

In the US you can probably prepay one or both of the dolls if you buy through VolksUSA. In point of fact they usually seem to require a deposit as a minimum payment. That can help defray the costs.

 

I'm seriously thinking of doing one of them through Volks USA, and doing a full prepay. That way I only need a thousand when they are released. Drawback is you have to wait two extra months for shipment.

 

I pre-ordered all three iM@S girls last year, and today I just had to shell out more than I make in a month for a sick pet. I can still manage the pre-order costs, but oh my god I wish I had paid for one of those dolls in full last year.

 

I think the Neir Automata doll and Kaede Takagaki will be the December dolls but that's just my own opinion.

I don't get it. More dolls = zero interest. But there's this corner of my brain constantly being clawed at by an interest in DDS Saber.

I got the same with Jeanne

I might be splitting her to as the only Saber who's outfir I've really liked has been Lily's but I'm going to wait a bit longer to decide if I want to preorder her or not. I've always wanted a Saber, but I'm gonna have a hard time justifying that cost to myself.

 

Lily's outfit is worth picking up if you don't already have it. It's basically three outfits in one, and it is spectacular. The cool thing about this new Saber is DDS-F3, but Lily's outfit might be a bit big on a DDS frame, and I'm guessing the S bust will make that worse. I can't recall if Lily's set has the extra loops and snaps for the smaller doll size.

 

I should dress one of my DDS iM@S girls up as Lily, and see how the armor looks on her. Makoto will really look the part of a prince in Saber armor.

 

Interesting... Might just get Saber so I can that new body quicker.

They just updated the information for the preorder and I'm a bit lost. Since I've never ordered a doll with armor (via Volks) are the hands in the images of Saber and Ruler considered part of her armor or no? Or does the armor actually go over the hands that are provided?

The sculpted armor (both hands and Saber's boots) go on instead of those body parts.

The doll by default is a proper body, and then to armor her up you remove the hands & feet and pop the armor pieces into that space instead

 

on Jeanne it looks like her hands are definitely the same way (entire armored hand replaces normal hand), but a bit difficult to tell with boots... Kinda looks like the shin-guard pieces slide on foot over a sorta opentoe sandal thing that's over a regular foot wearing thigh-high socks?

From the looks of it both these girls should be very versitile in terms of their outfits. Easily worth the price.

If anyone is curious about the hands, in the fine print it says:

 

* DDS Saber/Altria Pendragon comes with a pair of Gripping Hands (DDII-H-08). No other hands are included in her set.

 

* DD Ruler/Jeanne d'Arc comes with a pair of Basic Hands (DDII-H-01). No other hands are included in her set.

 

So these girls will come with regular hands in addition to the armored ones.

Lily came with three armored hands, and internal frame parts for the armored hands in black. This was all in addition to the complete DDII body. The hands would fit the original flesh colored frame, but the black parts look better.

ahh! Thanks for sharing! It's really great seeing bigger pics of these girls (especially a photo from Jeanne's back. Her wig is impressive! Hopefully it won't be a pain to maintain)!

I'm anxiously waiting for the preorder too! A year is going to be so long to wait for these girls- I want them now haha! In any case, I hope Volks keeps posting new photos to keep me going. I hope we get some of Jeanne is casual clothes. I'm really curious how her face looks sans head gear!

On the Volks site they describe Jeanne as having the biggest accessory set they have ever created. Not sure if biggest is quantity or if it's just a reference to the size of the flag. The context suggests the latter, but she clearly comes with a lot of stuff.

I'm so glad you pointed that out! I was wondering if the sword would be one piece or two; I was just playing the game the other day, and in Gilles' interlude it's noted that Jeanne never draws her sword in battle. So I'm really happy to see Volks is not skimping out there!

Hmmm...interesting. You might be on to something there. In one of Saber's photos, you can see a slight hint of fishing line attatched to some of the armor to give it movement. I didn't see anything like that attatched to Jeanne's wig, so maybe there is a wire? I wonder how such a wig would hold up over time. Hmmm...

Now that you mentioned Jeanne's scabbard... I can't see Avalon in any of Saber's photos :/

I guess Exculibur will be coming naked.

If you are in the US there are no customs fees on dolls, but some states have a Use Tax on most goods bought out of state. In California any out of state doll purchase over $1000 must be itemized on your state return, under $1000 there is an alternative tax you can opt for that covers all out of state purchases under 1k.

 

As far as I know in the EU you have to pay VAT on them, and it's substantial even on cheaper dolls like the standard models.

Ehem, they don't *just* declare the actual price, they probably have a paper on top the box saying "please have custom fees on this", or something. As far as I know, unless it's only clothes or something, I've not heard of one case where dolls have passed customs without being charged. In Greece, especially a few years back, they never charged my doll boxes. Volks was the only company I had to pay custom fees for.

It's actually a crime to avoid customs as a buyer and to support false information as a seller (you could lose your seller permit), though not all governments monitor this system very well.

 

Volks is a bit unfair to international sellers though, they charge the JP tax as well (that's the "fee" you pay when buying a doll).

 

In Europe it's:

VAT + declaration fee + additional tax (if applicable, in NL they charge(d) 4,2% extra on doll-ware).

That's a shame. The BJDs that I got from their manufacturers were worth around USD15 as far as customs were concerned. Which is a little silly, as that is not a believable number if the box was actually inspected.

 

They were from South Korea and China though.

No, customs will also charge you for clothes, props or wigs. In Belgium, as soon as the amount is over 25 EUR (and by that I mean, value of the item + shipping costs), they will charge custom fees. Anything sent by EMS is guaranteed to get charged.

In Spain you must pay VAT+custom duty. Then you have to pay 15€+VAT to Correos (mail service) for inconveniencing them. Unless you live in Madrid, then you can go to the Custom section in the airport and make the import proceedings yourself.
