You're right! I just always called those 'atm cards'. I've had my visa debit card so long I forgot the atm card only does that!

So I guess if its a card that you can buy things online with (even itunes or whatever), it should work.

And thats the problem Victoria is refering to. In Germany 'atm cards' are common and I would say credit cards are very "rare". Simply because you don't need them here at all. The only people I know who use them here are either buying stuff online/international or travel a lot.

And thats the problem I have with this whole situation too. I need to get a card (paying monthly fees or on a year basis) to pre-order a Doll once a year? Thats dumb... Guess I will never pre-order again then ~(>_<~)

I guess in a way the idea that you don't have Visa Check cards in Germany is a bit odd to me. I mean it's really just a different way of writing a check. The money still comes directly out of your bank account. It's hugely convenient because you never have to carry cash anywhere.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

But...I seriously thought it had always been this way??? I've never done a preorder but if they seriously are only now requiring down payments of 10% of the doll (which seems incredibly reasonable to me) I'm really surprised. A lengthy preorder period for such an expensive item you don't have to pay anything for upfront is honestly just asking for a bunch of impulse preorders and 'eh changed my mind's a year later. I would have expected this kind of policy from the beginning

It's funny how so many people are freaking out about Volks Japan doin down-payments only now because Volks USA preorders have always had the down-payment option! (source: Saber Alter 2 & Extra)

Looks like they've adjusted the numbers, as the Great Saber Rush of 2011 the payment was only $55 up front. And even tho the dolls themselves weren't due for over a year after, they accepted Final Payments as early as December '11 (with absolute last due dates by March '12)

Since they've stated that the deposits are not refundable regardless of reasons, I think it is safe to assume that they are going to charge the deposit to the credit card instead of just submitting an order via paypal, since you can still flake out on your order by making sure your paypal doesn't have enough funds or there is no card linked.

Ah, okay. That makes more sense. That wax the one point I was really WTF? about.

I have no problem with the down payment, the point I take issue with is you have to check multiple Volks sources to gather all the needed info. That's a Fail on Volk's part, them assuming that everyone always reads everything they print about preorders, or even have the ability to read Japanese. It's just frustrating.

In Greece we also have a 3rd type of card called "prepaid", which is like a digital wallet. It has no yearly fees or monthly payments, the only time you pay is when you add money in it (mine charges 1% till 100 euro, 2% till 200 euro, can caps at 3% from there after// it used to be a flat rate instead of a percentage a few years back). You can use this card like any other Visa/Mastercard. (maybe there's something similar in Germany...)

Where do you see anyone freaking out about it? @_@ Sister Kyoya was wondering about the amount we have to pay when we preorder now and after that we were discussing about the limited payment options. (It may be normal for the US to have credit cards, but as I already said its not everywhere this way)

I don't really see anyone who has a problem with the down-payments per se (me included), just with the way they do things @_@

My brother works for a bank and has a credit card. I don't really like it, but he offered to use it for Saber. I will have to check first, if I can pay the rest with Paypal though~ I don't want to trouble him

That's the type of 'credit card' that Raven and I use. Convenience of credit without the credit line. Ours does have a $5 reload fee, but since we use it to pay bills online as well, that cost seems menial.

This was really my point, but also to let anyone else know who hadn't noticed the footnote about paypal. It did shock me a bit at first, but nothing close to freaking out about. Just trying to be transparent with information when Volks doesn't make it consistent. My biggest concern was for possible new hobby people who may not know how to navigate through Volks' information, especially when even just last year the 3 preorder girls didn't require a down payment at all through International. It's the first time I've personally dealt with it.

They probably fear people dropping out with paypal. I'm too tired right now to look it up, but I know we had a buyer protection of 45 days or something and they changed that to.... over 100 days? So basically you could pre-order the girls on the last day, pay for them and drop out months later and they can't do anything about that? It would suck for them. (No idea how it is with credit cards haha)

But thats just my guess~ Maybe its just too much work adding the Paypal Fees ect. We probably will never know

[Edit]: I looked it up: "For PayPal, within 180 days after the purchase agreement was concluded [...]"

The Volks site states " The deposit must be paid through credit card only"

and under balance of payment part it states "You can use credit card or Pay pal to pay the balance"

So you can pay the deposit with credit card and the balance with pay pal

Historically, it depended on the purchase method:

VolksUSA - down payment (varying percent) or prepay in full, buyer's choice.

Volks Int - order only, payment due when ready to ship a year later.

Volks JP - down payment of 5K yen per outfit and 10K yen per doll.

The Japanese domestic info, through the form in Volks News, is accurate from 2012 and onwards.

Looks like Volks Int is changing their procedure this time.

Hopefully not off topic since it's kind of related to the new releases.

Earlier we were discussing Saber Lily's outfit on a DDS - S since that's what the new Saber will be. Here is Makoto (DDS-S) in Lily's outfit; well except for the Pantsu because I'd have had to fight Lily for them. Instead Makoto has a pair of shorts on under all of that. There wasn't need for any kind of filler for her bust with the armor on, but without it the bustier (correct undergarment name?) did all that was needed. Without that the dress top is a bit baggy.

The only bit that didn't fit perfectly were the greaves. Her calves are just a hair too short, but not so much so that everything didn't work.

Excalibur is a bit big for a DDS, the base she is standing on is adding at least half an inch to her height, so I wonder if there won't be a slightly smaller one shipping with the new Saber. The pommel would almost reach her chin if the tip was resting on the base of the stand.

Oh and as long as I was taking pictures and needed a DD in the photo for comparison.I decided to sneak in my other new arrival.

Thanks for the comparison, and congrats on your Asuna! Asuna's socks are actually worn rotated 90 degrees, with the crosses facing outside to the left and right, instead of facing forward. ^^

Heh, so indeed they are. Well, I was going to take more photos of her anyways.

Thanks, she's fixed now.

Hehe. I made the same mistake when I got mine. I also got one with a borked sock, one of them doesn't have the extra flap on the top. >.<

Wow that's quite the omission on Volks part. Mine was used, and otherwise perfect except for a small stain on her jacket which came out with some resolve, and a need of ironing.

I think I am going to do a more in depth photo comparison with the armor this time with Makoto, Lily herself, and Maybe Nero. This time though Lily is going to have to give up her Type Moon Pantsu.

I'll add in the weapons I have too, so people can get some size comparisons to help people decide if they want to hunt down some extra's for next year. I did a major cleaning last weekend and was just too tired to do more than a few shots.

If it has the VISA logo on it you should be fine. You may need to call your bank and tell them you are going to use the card at a Japanese merchant. Some banks will automatically decline the charge if they see it is overseas.

Another thing to take note if you plan on going Volks Japan is that your credit card issuer will typically charge a 1-3% fee for foreign transactions. Cards that don't charge a fee will typically list that as a benefit, so if you aren't sure, you probably will have a fee on top of the purchase price.

Just something to keep in mind. ^^

It has the MasterCard logo.

I buy stuff from overseas all the time so that shouldn't be an issue, I'm just worried they won't accept my card for the deposit.

As long as it can be processed like a credit card transaction I’d bet it will work. Worst case if it didn’t you have two months months to setup a prepaid credit card. I believe that’s what Sister Kyoya uses, so she might be able to give you some advice there.

Counting down to Volks Japan preorder window! 4 hours to go, looks like deposit is 10,800 JPY.

So about $190 plus any fees and exchange rates.

Well, I just paid my deposit for Saber Atroria.

I tried to add some extra hands to the order, but they have to be done separately, which is bit of a pity.

This will be my first Volks doll, now I just have to wait a year before I get her.

At least she didn't have to be paid for upfront in full like with resins.

Hah, my bad. In my head I automatically doubled it because I was planning to order both.
