Nope. That deposit went bye bye. I paid it and then got the email for the total you said above. Then they tacked on taxes and shipping. So Saber winds up costing more than her retail for us.

I had wondered if that was the case. It seems really odd to me that the deposit wouldn't be factored into the final cost. I mean basically it would be like saying you have to pay for the privilege of pre-ordering and then pay full price later. That's basically $100 down the drain if that is true.

From my account status its showing 106920 with fee's (tax included for foreign customers) to be payed.

which adds up to my previous orders behaviour.

 

There's still going to be the 500 or so yen EMS insurance and shipping costs above that.

 

But I wont go all gung-ho about that, since I havent checked the actual payment link since its going to be months before I can cough that up.

If the ¥106,920 includes fees then that would make total sense. It means the deposit isn't lost.

 

The base cost ¥109,000

8% Tax: ¥8,720

Equals: ¥117,720

Minus the deposit of ¥10,800

Equals: ¥106,920

 

So the deposit is included in the final cost.

Well I got an email from Volks just now stating that they've received my request for Paypal payment and will send an invoice shortly. That is a good sign.

 

Convoluted, but I'm sure we'll get there.

I'm still just baffled as to why they didn't wait until after the preorder was done to switch things. I'm sure they have their reasons. It just seems so confusing and overly complicated. I hope everything goes off without a hitch for everyone.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait a bit longer. The special page for Volks USA stated they'd be shipping in Winter 2018 vs the international site which says Fall.

You should get your payment request from Volks USA soon.

 

The way it generally works is everyone pays, then the dolls ship from Japan. It takes them about 8 weeks to get here from Japan. Then they inspect the dolls, and ship to you by whatever method you choose when you paid the remaining balance. I think my Yayoi from last years project arrived mid to late December, but payment was due in October.

 

Fair warning that sometimes there can be delays outside of Volks control.

I’m sure it doesn’t help that November & December are probably the worst months for shipping and customs, and Port of Los Angeles is one of our busiest commercial ports. I think only New York is bigger. I’ve had stuff from China sit in LA customs for weeks, and as far as I know they run workshifts 24/7. That has to be a brutal job.

I have wondered more than once why Volks chooses this time of year for preorders/shipping. Maybe it makes perfect sense in Japan, but for the US customers it's about the busiest time of year having to do with family holidays/holiday travel. I'm always afraid of hearing someone having trouble getting their girl because they are out of town or something. Not like I'd have any control over that... but still it makes me feel bad.

 

Ugh. I can't even imagine what working a job like that would be like. I've heard plenty of stories from Raven about the chaos that the holidays cause in retail, I'd assume shipping wouldn't be too vastly different just minus the customer interaction.

I’ve watched container ships coming in under the Golden Gate. The size of the ships is staggering, and the size of the stacks of containers on the desks is impressive. On top of that it feels like every time you look up there is another one coming in.

 

And we only get the ones that can fit under the bridge.

 

All those containers need customs inspection, and I’m sure just like every other government agency they have half the staff they need. Pretty sure LA is a much bigger port than SFO.

 

I never expected to get blue Saber either.

IIRC, LA is the biggest importing sea dock in the US. But in my experience ordering things, their customs facility is pretty dang efficient. NY is the worst.
