FGO X Dollfie Dream : Jeanne d'arc and Saber

Based on my tracking update this morning it looks like they are leaving from the local airport again, and not from Tokyo. She should be here early next week.

Oddly enough, after I replied here, I saw where someone on FB had said they were looking at their homepage on the Volks Int. site and saw that under "Orders" they had an update. So I went to mine and saw that too. After going in to my payment page, it showed a tracking number and info! So Saber is coming home already!

 

And even funnier, this morning I finally got my email with the tracking info. So hooray! I hope everyone else's ship soon too!

Ooh, she looks pretty.

 

She's also closer to her original version faceup than I thought from Volks official pics. It's more refined and subtle than the old one and she looks friendlier and less stern. But all the official pics made it look like she had a lot of blush, which while nice just didn't seem appropriate for Saber, and these pics show she's not actually like that it seems.

I like her eyes, and that wig frames her face well. Really looking forward to seeing the F3 body too. My Saber might be in customs as early as tonight.

I never got the email, but when I sign in I see she's shipped and there's a tracking number! ^_^

She's through dolly immigration. Since she's Saber and she lacks Kaede's idol cred, I suspect it was more along the lines of she came, she saw, she beat them up until they let her in.

Seeing that I checked something. Compared to her original release Saber not only got shorter (going from DD to DDS) she got a bust reduction, going from M to S.

Weird thing. Tracker says she get out from Tokyo yesterday and now she is in delivery process, here in Spain. No customs. Weird.

Mine says she went thru the customs at ISC NY but that's the same place that lost my big package from Sweden back in May. I swear if Saber goes missing, I will drive up there and begin breaking faces open until she's returned to me.

So *THAT'S* why there's been no news on my Kaede shipping! She's making sure everything is perfect before she leaves.

Here I am wondering if I should go to the post office and inquire where the packet is. Usually it gets retained at customs in Madrid, it didnt get straight on delivery process. If it is on that means that this time I dont pay customs but if I intervene....

A few impressions.

 

The DDS-F3 body has the improvements I was hoping for at the shoulders and hips.

 

I wasn't able to get the F3 torso frame into a one-piece torso. What I found doesn't bode well for the one-piece either. The shoulders on the new torso are just too bulky to fit past the waist. I might be able to get it in with a hairdryer and some oil, but I would never get it back out, which would mean that once installed it could never be tensioned. I wouldn't want to grease it up to get it in either.

 

Volks would have to redesign the torso with a waist maybe 3/16 to 1/4" larger, but to me that wouldn't be the end of the world. Alternatively they would need to create an IF part made just for the one-piece that got around the bulky shoulders.

 

The new lower torso has a V shaped slot to hold the pelvis part of the frame in place, so it is a bit different from the DDIII torso part. This should actually help prevent the hips from wandering to the side.

 

I may get a torso frame at some point in order to mess around with that some more, but I didn't want to wreck Makoto's original torso, or loose the original IF and have my new Saber in pieces till I could replace it.

 

Her outfit is interesting to put on. You have to put the outer part on then pull the inner dress on, put on the petticoats, and finally the bloomers. They are literally bloomers too, she didn't come with pantsu. I am going to have to assign her a pair the next time I get an outfit that comes with the Volks default panties.

 

I wish she came with normal shoes like Saber Lily. The dress looks great, but she's barefoot. Belldandy's shoes might look nice with it though.

 

Her hair ribbon isn't built in, and gets attached with a hairpin. Best of all her wig went on easily unlike Nero's.

 

The feet and hands aren't snap on, which I kind of don't like. The feet at least can be tensioned so you don't have to worry about them slipping off, but the IF parts that goes with her boots are the old friction kind.

A few other things I have found.

 

Her crown seems to be designed to work with wigs that have the hair pulled back in a bun, like with Saber's wig or with ponytail wigs. It doesn't have the usual clip or hairpin; instead there is a plastic bit that slides into the hair cap. Her ahoge seems to help hold it in place too. I'm not sure how well it can be made to work with other kinds of wigs, but I haven't tried.

 

Her sabatons just won't go on at all. The black plastic part that goes onto the IF post inside of her leg is way too tight, and won't go in all the way unless I jam it in so tight it isn't ever coming out. I'm not even sure it will go on that far without using enough force to break it. I think the only way to make them work would be to get a pair of F3 shins and steal the leg posts, and might even have to cut them short to get them to work.

 

She's wearing her armor barefoot at the moment. It's really kind of a shame them didn't just do snap on parts like the DDP, or that they didn't just give them tensioners like the F3 foot has. Would have eliminated the need to have things fit so tightly. I also pulled off Ranko's foot and tried one of them on her and it fit like a charm, so I am mildly annoyed at this. Saber Extra's sabatons were like this too, but Lily's weren't so bad.

 

Best way I found to get her breastplate on is to fit one part on her until it is fully in place with the fabric tucked in properly, and then put the other part in place. Seems to hold together fine that way. Same with the greaves. It isn't as obvious because they are already put together in the parts tray, but they come apart, and hold together with magnets. Just need to get her bloomers tucked in properly.

 

Except for the feet she looks great in her getup, and she is a beautiful DD. The DDS body really suits Saber.

Thanks for confirming this. I could see something like that in Leiothrix's unboxing thread. It would be a shame if its not going to work for what I want, since the overall style of the crown is exactly the type that I want, but it'd be a bigger shame to buy one off someone and learn the hard way that it woudn't fit properly. (although...presumably it can balance, even if one snapped off the plastic bit...? Not sure i'd want to do that, though...)

Yeah, you can see the plastic bit in the unboxing photos. Unlike the other parts, the crown isn't ABS plastic, it's the same vinyl material the older armor sets are made of. You could probably trim that part off with a sharp knife. I wouldn't though, I don't think it would prevent the crown from balancing on top of a head with normal hair fibers, and if you removed it then you wouldn't have it for ponytail / bun wigs.

 

EDIT: it doesnt surprise me that the f3 wouldnt fit in the onepiece torso. Those are actually being discontinued from the 20th, although there is no news on whether any special f3 ones with the frame inside will be made...

 

That's a shame, but I think they are stuck unless they move the torso away from the ultra thin anime waist. I'd actually be ok with that, and it might even fit with their new style of realistic head better.

Volks Japan is currently out of the normal large bust NS one, though it claims it will be restocked.

I just got my Saber today and had the exact same problem. BUT..... as I did with my Saber Extra, all you need to do is sand down the pegs from inside the legs and they will slide right into the armored feet. I used some 600 grit sandpaper and it took me about 20 minutes to get them to go in smoothly without getting stuck.

 

 

The big bonus of this is that unlike Saber Extra's regular feet now being a bit loose due to my sanding of the pegs, the new F3 feet have tiny screws you use to adjust the tension on the pegs! All I had to do was tighten them just a hair for the sanded pegs to fit tightly back into her normal feet. So go grab some sandpaper and get to it! Way easier and cheaper than buying new legs parts and all that.

 

I took some pics of putting her together but will add some more to show more details soon. Then I'll make a post here so others can see all the little details of her and her outfit and weapons.
