FGO X Dollfie Dream : Jeanne d'arc and Saber

I'm so dead. Saber is finally the right height and I can't not have Jeanne, the only servant I have max bond lvl on FGO. Goodbye, a huge chunk of my savings. #fwp

I've already got a Saber, but Jeanne really tempts me.

In the past I've done partial faceup removals, like taking off Asuka's eyebrows. Blush is tricky since it can overlap the eye paint. The mouth is probably doable, if Volks does any chin blush you can remove them together. You might be able to tone down blush with a coat of sealant, but I wouldn't use MSC since the current formula can crackle on vinyl.

 

Aside:

 

I do wonder about the faceup on this new Blue Saber though. Looking at the photo's details makes me nervous that if I bought her as-is I might have the same reaction to her as I did to unboxing Saber Alter v2 where I found unexpected dark blushing that wasn't on v1. How hard would it be to reduce or eliminate the heavy blush and get rid of the pink lipstick whilst leaving the rest of the makeup intact.. basically make it look more like Blue Saber v1's style?

 

I've had to sell DDs in the past because I couldn't get past Volks' "modern" (2012+) overheavy blushing style on them, even if I liked them otherwise. I was too chicken to mess with a default faceup. Maybe it's time for that to change? Is that a good decision to leave well enough alone, or is the makeup fixable at all without wiping and starting over?

 

(Occasionally Volks doesn't overblush on more recent dolls, and I found that out of everyone I've owned, those are the ones I keep. For example Konpaku Youmu, Ranko Kanzaki, and Alice Kuonji. It'd be nice to not have to play faceup lottery anymore on top of doll lottery though for new releases!)

I am ridiculously tempted to sell my Santa Saber and my Kirika Towa Alma and save the money for these two... I can't decide which one I want more or if I should cave for both

if prev Sabers pre-orders any indication, we gonna be up to our eyeballs in Y!J resales afterwards. Many having their Grails at last is a comforting thought

DaemonNoyz- If your girls are anything like ours (even our MDD) they always come in at least pairs. My Rainie complained for over a year about missing her twin sister (she didn't even have one planned at the time, her comment on the matter came out of nowhere.) When all was said and done she ended up with her twin Ringo, and an older brother Ralph (who was supposed to be her younger brother.) Every DD family is different, and I hope for our sake you don't have pests like my Rainie.

I've been in the hobby 5.5 years and once last year's preorder arrives we will be at 25 finished DD/Smart Doll/Obitsu, about 10 or so floating heads, and that doesn't include our multiple Volks EB Mini, Pure Neemos, Obitsu 11cm, or my resin boy who have all migrated into our house in that time. So if I'm lucky, by next Christmas we won't be at 30 vinyl Kiddos... but who knows.

 

Edit: I also hope we get more info about the preorder girls because I really want to see Ruler's face upclose to see who it might work for. I've got a ton of characters in the background waiting to be made that it's driving me crazy not being able to narrow it down or find out if it would be another new character.

Ha hahahaha! Yup, it's the old "One and Done" deal. Here I am at 54 girls after 7 years with no end in sight. I couldn't be happier!

 

As for me, I am so getting Blue Saber! I've always wanted one and now I can finally get her brand new and not for some crazy aftermarket price! Jeanne looks interesting but I know nothing about her character and since I can't afford both of them, Saber is my choice hands down.

 

So that will make THREE Sabers in my family!

I guess my wallet's safe since I never got into Fate anything and even though I like the sculpts, they are not must haves. I do enjoy Saber's updated look, though.

I'm indifferent to Fate Jeanne because her design bugs me so much. I love Jeanne D'arc as a historical figure and like seeing her realized in an anime form but...could they have got it more wrong? Disguising herself as a man was like...one of the most famous things about her? Why would she be presenting so feminine and with giant tits sticking out to boot? Saber actually looks more like a decent anime Jeanne D'arc than the actual Jeanne D'arc.

 

Actually when I said "I don't like Jeanne" I literally meant I don't like her, and that's partly cause of how they represent her. It really bothers me. Funny enough it is what drives me nuts about Iskander. If he's supposed to be Alexander the Great then.... Why the facial hair? All you had to do is not do that and I'd be okay, but you chose that. It was a big deal in his time to be beardless. He had his own army shave!

 

But I, also with you, realize it is taking it a bit far, but I can't help it. What bothers me bothers me haha.

Hnngh... I'm 70% going to pre-order both. My army of Sabers demand it. My close friends who love Saber demand it I get a bit unsure the more I stare at Jeanne tho... I'm going to wait for more pictures before deciding on her.. She might look better out of default... But I'm def going to get Saber! I've always wanted to buy the original Saber...

I've been eyeing Sabers lately, but I'm not overly sure how I feel about this one. She's pretty, but super youthful for my taste when it comes to her sculpt. I mean, I could always get a custom faceup, but I'd rather just wait for the inevitable next release than bank on that. Jeanne is very tempting, though, and it'd be neat to have her in my collection. I don't have any super mature ladies in my collection yet. Not to mention these get released just in time for my birthday but it depends so much on if they announce Ruri between now and then.

I've been drooling over both of these girls all day! Saber looks beautifully updated and Jeanne is gorgeous as well! I'm impressed with their armor and accessories...they just look so fantastic. As a Fate fan, I feel really excited and happy! I wonder is Saber's sword and Jeanne's banner will be extra accessories? As for outfits, I wonder if there will be any, or if it will just be their weapons? I mean, Jeanne's ascension outfit in the game is just white instead of blue. And Arturia is pretty much what we see her wearing in the photo (full armor + cloak). So I wonder what they will do?

 

I also wonder- with Kosmos, it seemed like her eyes were further apart to account for her head gear; I'm wondering if that's what people are seeing when they look at Jeanne? I hope we get some casual photos of them sans armor so I could know if this will be a problem for me or not.

 

Anyway, my main concern right now is the price tag; already girding myself for it to be steep. I wish I could get both of them! T_T

The problem with Raven and I is once they come in the house, we know they are permanent residents. Sometimes I think even if we wanted to we couldn't get rid of one... even if it is an Obitsu Kana head that was smaller than I anticipated. I refer to it as 'the gremlin' because I'm still baffled as to what to do with it. I had a plan when I bought it but the size issue made that impossible. It also means that someday I'll get around to buying the Obitsu bodies to finally make Jesse and James from Pokemon (James cracks me up.) I'm kinda dreading having Rainie's 2nd arch nemesis in the house because she will be even more lively than usual, but I've already got J&J's heads. Then there is the question of if Kiyoteru's 07 head should still be used for him or if it should be his older brother René and try to redo Kiyoteru so he looks more like he should. I love the faceup that Anouc gave him, but even before I sent his head I wondered if I should have modded his mouth. That question has never left my mind but it throws me off every time I see him.

54? Wow I knew I was kinda afraid to know what your running count currently was. I've been trying to take it slow getting back into hobby stuff after the stupid craziness of my food issues this year (that have gotten worse since I last mentioned it.) There is still so much I want to do but everyday I'm having to remind myself to just take it slow and do one thing at a time. It's hard for me to work on things just for mine and Raven's Kiddos because it makes me feel super selfish not having things to share here on the forums. But as a distinct reminder, I woke up this morning with a stomach ache like a knife had been thrust in my gut. Even breathing made it hurt. So I have to remind myself that I should be glad that I can even be sitting here typing at all, and that it's okay if it takes me a week to hand sew Yuriko's sweater because in the end she will at least have something new. It's really been hard taking life at less than a snail's pace, but at least I'm slowly starting to be able to connect with the Kiddos again. It still gets overwhelming when they 'need' so much, but like you said, the point really is happiness.

 

More than once I have tried to put the breaks on any more new Kiddos in the house, but I just can't do it. There are the hard times when life gets so overwhelming that I can't deal with them at all. But then there are the times when I start to feel better and I'm reminded that without them there would be no better times to return to. I'm just glad that they are able to be as patient as they are with me. As I've said before, some people chose to medicate with Pills, but I find the Kiddos to be much more effective without all the nasty side effects.

 

I am just about beside myself giddy over realizing that another character I wrote in the Kiddo reboot story (still working on) would suit the Ruler sculpt really well. His name is Omar, and I honestly never expected to be able to make him so I'm really thrilled. Oh man, I'm so glad I have a year to figure out his personality more because there are some quirks to who he is that could be difficult if not figured out thoroughly. But hey, I'll take any excuse for another megane boy. Now I just need to find some glasses frames that are big huge ones like Naiomi's.

 

And yes I am aware that I often choose rather dumb and non-elegant names. I do it because it's funny.

I don't know much about Jeanne, since I don't play F/GO, and don't yet have a PS4 to play Fate/Extella (I bought the game already...)

If they offer Maid again don't waste the money. I got one with my Lily, only because it was included with her aftermarket for a really good price. I've never put in on her, and from the photos I've seen the only reason you put that outfit on a doll is if you deliberately want to stain it blue from head to toe.

Jeanne in F/GO got a cape with a cross on the side for her first stage. she will change to a white dress with armor after her third and final Ascension.

Jeanne Alter got short hair and similar black armor for the first 2 stages and long hair for her final ascension.

I'm kind of surprised they're doing Jeanne instead of Mash. I know Jeanne is a 5* waifu, whereas Mash is a lowly 3*, but Eggplant Kouhai is too cute.

 

As for Saber... I'm really torn. I love her and she's adorable, but I already have the Azone Saber. It's even harder because frankly, I'm not really sold on my Saber's head (she has painted eyes) and was considering replacing her head with another Obitsu one... but this Saber is really adorable. The main reason I never considered Volks Saber, aside from the price was the body, but now she's DDS. I feel like I can't really afford her right now, though. Maybe I'll see if they release any cute outfits? Though then again, the 50cm Azones don't really fit DDS clothes that well...

I've been wanting to get a DD for a while, so I'm glad my first is ultimately going to be Saber. 2B was high on my list as well, but if she ends up being a lottery at least I know I can bring one home. I was also surprised they picked Jeanne instead of another character.

I'm not. Over 10 years later and we'll have enough Sabers to do a Holy Grail war all by themselves. You can't do that with ANY OTHER SERVANTS, COMBINED.

 

How many non-Saberface servants did Volks release anyway? I'm thinking zero. Maybe technically one if you count Prisma Illya's appearance in FGO.

 

Where's my Tamamo? My Medusa? (A Chloe is fine too.)

I already have a Saber original, I'm pretty safe on that side.

For Jeanne, I am still hesitating: I'm not really fan of that character, but the doll and outfit look great. I might go for her (or regret not purchasing her for the years to come^^)

 

I would have been more enthusiastic if it had been 2B, though, or, in the Fate franchise, if they had included my Bersercute Frankenstein
