FGO X Dollfie Dream : Jeanne d'arc and Saber

I'm indifferent to Fate Jeanne because her design bugs me so much. I love Jeanne D'arc as a historical figure and like seeing her realized in an anime form but...could they have got it more wrong? Disguising herself as a man was like...one of the most famous things about her? Why would she be presenting so feminine and with giant tits sticking out to boot? Saber actually looks more like a decent anime Jeanne D'arc than the actual Jeanne D'arc.

 

Actually when I said "I don't like Jeanne" I literally meant I don't like her, and that's partly cause of how they represent her. It really bothers me. Funny enough it is what drives me nuts about Iskander. If he's supposed to be Alexander the Great then.... Why the facial hair? All you had to do is not do that and I'd be okay, but you chose that. It was a big deal in his time to be beardless. He had his own army shave!

 

But I, also with you, realize it is taking it a bit far, but I can't help it. What bothers me bothers me haha.

Rider actually doesn't bother me at all though - it's a nitpick, sure, but he's my second favourite character in the entire Fate franchise (waver velvet being the first) so I can let it slide. I might warm up to Jeanne if I actually knew anything about her character at all, I'm too busy being salty all 'b-but she should look like level 5 RPG jeanne it was so easy >:c' at the moment. (true, level 5 RPG jeanne has boob armour and all but still)

 

And since it was mentioned that F/GO has all the characters of F/Z...that's true, but F/GO has a billion characters and making some based from it doesnt guarantee F/Z characters, whereas announcing a F/Z collab would. But with so many Sabers, it's weird that Volks have never done the suited up Saber in /Zero, because she is clearly the best Saber. >:T (then again i also find it weird that they still haven't done Rider from /Stay Night cos I always thought she was really popular)

Saber, Alter, Nero, Alter 2nds were the same head sculpts. Lily however was unique.

 

I agree. Lily has a smaller head and I just love how she looks.

 

Anyhow, I thought I was safe from this hobby but it seems I'm not. I really fancy both of them and the Hubs has given me the go ahead but we'll see. I might change my mind come December. It will all depend on what they come out with next for their lottery and what Luka or 2B looks like (or if Danny busts out a Fairytale Lucy and Erza). But, the more I see Saber, the more she grows on me... She can stay with Lily and Nero...

What I am worried about is that this will be a full prepay like with the new rules for the lotteries. Shelling out $2000 and then waiting a year would be nuts. I hope Volks realizes this wouldn't be reasonable.

To a lot of people Saber is their unicorn. I get into the hobby drooling after Danny Choo's Saber 4/5 years ago but cannot get her because of the awful prices. Volks just has blow up the market. I am happy with this preorder.

Yeah, it's nuts I know. But when I see a DD in need of a home due to them being stained badly or having a bad face up I lose control and can't ignore them. I'd say at least half if not 2/3 of my girls were rescues in some way or another. I'm just a sucker for a sob story when it comes to DD's.

 

Original Saber was also ¥ 95000, and she did clearly come with Excaliber, but Avalon isn't pictured. Not sure if it was one of those extras you can lottery for using a form in the box with the doll.

Yep, Original Saber came with Excaliber ( some call it Caliburn ) and you were able to purchase the unleashed version of it along with the scabbard Avalon separately for around $100. I'm not sure if there was a form available to order it or if it was just an add on when you preordered her, kind of like the swimsuits for Alter or Yoko or Nia.

If they offer Maid again don't waste the money. I got one with my Lily, only because it was included with her aftermarket for a really good price. I've never put in on her, and from the photos I've seen the only reason you put that outfit on a doll is if you deliberately want to stain it blue from head to toe.

 

Lord yes, do NOT get the second version of the maid set! I bought one and tried it on a spare bust I had and it literally stained it in 5 seconds. It was insane. I'm amazed it didn't stain my hands. Pure stupidity for Volks to have allowed that thing to be released at all.

 

Now there IS another version, the original one, that doesn't stain immediately. The way to tell is that the packaging for the first version has TWO pics of Saber wearing it. The re-release stain monster has THREE pics of Saber on the front. Stay far far away from the 2nd version if you value your girls skin.

 

 

Ha, probably the only time I will ever be able to say we'd be tied on the number of dolls. In point of fact we're tied at two Sabers now.

Ha ha ha! You're lucky to have Lily, her outfit and armor are amazing. If my MDD Army *were* to march on your home, she'd be the only version of Saber in danger of getting kidnapped. They could use lily's for once ! It will fit her better.

I'm slightly disappointed in this release (´Ａ｀。) I feel like we've seen a lot of Saber these past years; it's really great for those wishing to own her, but I've never took a liking to her sculpt. Jeanne d'Arc, on the other hand, might be interesting if customised a bit? We'll have to see after release, once owner pictures come out ☆

an amusing little thing I noted just now while ogling a video of Azone's new Enma Ai, was a Jeanne D'arc ruler doll in the Obitsu 50 range beside it.

 

have to wonder if Type moon is having some say as to what characters they are letting to be dollyfied.

 

Also reminds me of the days when Volks and Azone had competing releases on some items, though mainly the in August/Aria licenses.

I wouldn't count on a saber Extra rerelase, she's not that popular (T^T)... And even if they did it, it would probably be with a diferente make-up (like Rin) or diferent clothes (like Saber Extra)

 

If you want just the outfit, there is a shop on taobao that does "cosplays" for DDs, and has de saber extra outfit.

 

I don't like the saber Extra make up, it doesn't look like Nero to me, so maybe I'll be getting this one, adding some eyelashes and then looking for the outfit. A friend of mine has a saber Extra, so I'll be triying her outfit and boots on one of my DDS bodies to check if it fits xD But I know she won't be always on that dress so I don't mind it either if it doesn't work

Actually, Saber has two swords- Excalibur and Caliburn. Caliburn being the sword pulled from the stone, and Excalibur coming from the Lady of the Lake. Caliburn is primarily Lily's sword, so I think we'll just get Excalibur. I would probably be tempted to shell out for Avalon (Excalibur's sheath), if they do make that an option part.

Well, I've done preorders for many years and this is typically how it goes for me:

 

Preorders announced and if there is anything of interest I freak out for quite some time. My mind races with all the possibilities and after a while I can finally calm down and think more logically, deciding who and what I really need. (Last year was the worst so far after realizing I needed all three girls for OC I've been wanting for a long time. I've never bought that many DD before.)

 

Once I figure out what the financial damage will be, I sit down and calculate how much to save every week through the year to make it work. Figure out what your max amount you can save within reason per week. I can tell you from experience that it is so much better to start saving as soon as possible. Generally for me that means the first payday after Jan 1. It would be easier to start saving the first payday after placing the preorder, but that's too difficult around here with four (people) birthdays and three holidays for us between Oct. 1 and Dec. 25. and two of those birthdays are mine and my husband's.

 

So I calculate my saving time schedule from Jan 1. to June 30. I find this to be a comfortable range, because if life happens I have some time to recover savings. My absolute hard cut off date that I can save through without getting into a panic over it is before Aug. 31 although for me it feels like I'm 'cutting it pretty close' if it takes me that long. And you have to realize that life happens. My husband ended up in the hospital for a few days some months back from a severely infected finger. I was glad that I had my preorder savings there because with meds and other things it was burned through even though we have insurance. So I started my savings over again, at a bit more of a heftier pace to make up for lost time. Then our refrigerator just up and stopped working. So this is an example of why needing to know your max saving per week is important, if it happens that you have to buckle down and save like a fiend. This year it meant saving into the second week of September, so it has been more than a little stressful.

 

I'm trying to recall the earliest date that preorder payment was due since I've been in the hobby and my mind always defaults to the 3rd week in Sept. but the other day I checked my email and the Macross girl's (last year's) payment cutoff date was Oct. 28.

 

I cannot express enough that you should over budget. I'm sure I go overboard but I figure anything leftover I can just use for some random purchase as an additional reward for for doing what needed to be done and saving when I often wanted to buy other things instead. Frankly it's amazing that I've learned to have this much patience. So for a comparison, here is my data I've been keeping for last year's preorder girls:

The max savings amount is $3k because I rounded up the min. amount to be saved to $2,500 due to fluctuating exchange rate or to buffer against a math miscalculation. It got rounded up again after that just in case something went 'really wrong' so it's the number I felt comfortable not to have to stress about having enough.

 

I know my process might sound odd to a lot of people who are probably thinking "Why not put it on a credit card and pay that off later?" Well there is one darn good reason: We do not have a credit card. We use a prepaid debit card simply because it keeps us out of debt because we can't use money we don't have. The preorders are the only exception to that. And Volk's policy of banning you from their site and any sales from them, is enough of a frightening prospect for us to stay on the ball about making sure we keep our promises to them. A couple of years it hasn't been easy, and takes a LOT of personal restraint over long periods of time, but we always make it work.

 

So after all that, and you still decide to preorder a DD or two, then you can place your preorder when they are open. Volks USA can also take preorders but they do require a down payment (not sure how much) but Volks International doesn't.

 

Volks posts quite a few pics of the DD during the preorder period of their default set as well as different eyes/wigs/outfits so you can have a better idea of the possibilities of the girls/sculpts. After the preorders close, don't be surprised if all and any info on the preorders is nonexistent for the following year. As annoying and nerve wracking as that is, it is what Volks does. It can feel like it has all up and disappeared. But don't worry, they didn't forget. You can go to the Volks site you preordered with and check your invoice to be reassured, as long as it's less than a year after you submitted the order. I really wish Volks didn't delete those after a year especially with the preorders, but alas, they do. That's another reason why I suggest you keep your own dobleepentation, screenshot, or whatever just in case you need to check the numbers or anything after the one year mark.

 

Then Fall rolls around and you start checking your email compulsively to see if a payment email has arrived. I really wish Volks would give us some kind of warning to keep an eye out for upcoming payment emails. If I remember right, they give you a one week payment window to pay in full. Once paid, you eagerly wait about a month or so for your preorder to arrive (depending on how many orders they got, sometimes they need to be broken into multiple shipment groups when they get swamped with orders.) During this time I compulsively check the tracking until my computer wants to punch me.

 

Anything I've ever bought from Volks Int. needed to be signed for (I live in the USA) so be warned about that. It is best if you can arrange to sign for them yourself, or someone else you know/trust, or just expect that you'll have to pick it up at your post office.

 

Once they arrive, you can open them with abandon and much rejoicing, posting tons of box opening pics (if you have the patience to take them), or a video (if your attention span is like mine, and if I even remember that far in my excitement.) Also make sure to come back to the forums to join in all of the excitement and whatnot that ensues. It's like a worldwide forum party. Or come here to commiserate that your girl isn't home yet. There is plenty of that too plus lots of owner pics of their new girls.

 

One thing you really should do when you first get your girls is to check for flaws (every once in a while a faceup wasn't done well), wonky/too loose/cracked skeleton parts. If you have any concerns (as any new owner does) don't be afraid to post pics on the forums to see what's normal or what Volks needs to be contacted about. Their replacement time frame is very short (two weeks?) so if there is a problem or something's missing, they need to be contacted ASAP. Before you start to worry that there is going to be tons of problems with your girl, it is not a common occurrence. I have bought 6 DD through preorders (not including last year's girls who haven't arrived) 1 standard girl, and 1 lottery boy and I have never had any issues other than a snap on Len's shirt needs to be resewn.

My Mio, Yui, and the Asuna I just picked up were like that. Mio and Yui were stained, and Asuna's outfit had a stain. The Dolls took a lot of effort to clean up, but Asuna's outfit only took a single application of Resolve and about 5 minutes of my time to fix and she was ¥ 20,000 cheaper because of the stain.

 

I like finding DD like that, and fixing them up. I kind of feel like I'm giving them a home when others would pass them over for NIB. It's a good thing I don't work at an animal shelter; I would probably have dozens of one eyed, and three legged pets.

I hadn't planned to get a Lily given her price, so I put Extra on layaway. Then I got a great Tax Return and Lily arrived before Extra.

 

I'd say grab her armor and weapons aftermarket, but everything Saber Lily is expensive. I'd hate to see what the empty box probably sells for.

I'm kind of surprised they're doing Jeanne instead of Mash. I know Jeanne is a 5* waifu, whereas Mash is a lowly 3*, but Eggplant Kouhai is too cute

Lol, I mean EMIYA, sorry. I just think of him as Archer because that's what Rin always calls him... plus, I try to avoid spoiling UBW for people. The main problem is that most of the bodies that suit him have very realistic heads... I'd like to get Rin at some point, and she needs to look good next to her Archer.

 

Arthur is great, and I'd love him too. Especially if I also have Archer for yaoi potential...

As I've mentioned elsewhere, this does not apply to all climates, since I have the first edition saber maid outfit from 2008, and it stains within minutes in my parts of the woods. Even the satin ribbons seem to shed color, at least it did in its last outing.

 

So a word of warning about that.
