Smart Doll Melody

Didn't see a topic for this girl so I made one. Anyone else excited for her? She's so beautiful. One of the best faceups on a Smart Doll, in my opinion. According to his recent post she should be arriving late Oct- early Nov.

 

 

I have been considering bringing Melody home.

But don't tell Kizuna. She would probably flip to see another blond in the house.

Forgive me if this info is elsewhere, but which sculpt is her head based on? Or is it original?

It's another Mirai head, isn't it?

She does remind me a lot of Kizuna, so maybe it is a Mirai sculpt. I dunno there's no confirmation so far.

That wig though! And if I recall they are also giving her gray eyes!~

I saw on Danny's twitter page that she's being released in early November and she had gray eyes, so i think its safe to assume that she will have gray eyes. She looks really good with them!

Ah, ok... A bit disappointing but at least the the sculpt is so versatile. At least if I get her I won't have to pay for a new faceup to get the look I want for an OC (plus the wig is super nice coming with it). I hope she'll look different enough from a Harmony once I finally get her (with a slightly altered faceup.)

I gotta say all I see is a smarmier looking Kizuna. I really question how many Miraiclones are actually necessary, but I do like her wig.

Well he has been working on more new sculpts with Summer, Sana, Twilight and others. I doubt he'll completely stop recycling Mirai's sculpt but as long as they don't look completely identical it shouldn't be too big of an issue. Faceups are a powerful tool.

 

I was thinking of getting Julia but now I'm leaning more towards Melody.

But that's what I don't get. He has more than one girl sculpt, so why does he use the Mirai one over and over? They just all bleed together to me and it's reached the point where I can't even tell what's a new doll and what isn't unless it's pointed out, because the differences in faceup are too minute imo. Twilight's mold is the most distinctive one he's done, but it's underused compared to Mirai. Chitose is also underused but the two sculpts that seem to use it (Chitose and Gourai) already look much too similar. (Assuming Gourai is Chitose, if he shocked if she isn't because she looks the same to me) I just think if he's going to constantly reuse sculpts he may as well make it more equal.

Well considering that Mirai is his flagship character and she is ultimately the face and brand of Culture Japan, its only natural that it's her mold that gets reused the most. Honestly speaking, the other characters aren't as important or in the public view as much as Mirai is. She's a lovely character and her mold is very versatile. A different face up can go a long way. Really wish that he would start to sell the heads blank...

 

What bothers me isn't the same face syndrome but the lack in eye color. Majority of the girls have blue eyes, then green and finally Mirai's brown. I think Crimson is the only character right now with pink eyes. I know you can change the eyes yourself, but it would be nice to add in the pink eye color a bit more.

 

Melody definitely stands out now because she's going to be the only one with gray eyes.

You could try her method. Get something for Cheeto, with a note saying it's from Kizuna. Then when Kizuna is being distracted by a happy Cheeto, smuggle Melody in! Of course, you have to make sure Kizuna doesn't intercept your parcel thinking it's one of her sneaky purchases

I kind of lose interest when I see a new girl and find out that it's a Mirai sculpt again. It's not that I dislike Mirai or anything, just that I am more drawn to sculpts like Chitose and Moonlight. As such I would be more interested in seeing a new girl using the Chitose/Moonlight sculpts than a Mirai one. I think they're definitely talented in the faceup department, seeing how versatile they've made the Mirai sculpt. It just seems a waste that the other sculpts aren't getting the same amount of attention.

It is a bit disappointing to see the Mirai sculpt reused that often. Melody is like the 7th Mirai sculpt?

 

Having said that, I do like this faceup. Kinda reminds me of Ann from Persona 5.

They grey eyed version on Twitter reminds me of Luna Lovegood. I could see myself getting her at some point.

I like that Melody is smiling! She looks very outgoing and popular. And I mean that in a good way! The kind of girl everyone likes.

OMG, she does look a lot like Luna Lovegood! I showed her pictures to a few of my friends who are Potterheads, but completely oblivious to the doll world, and they agreed that she bares a likeness to Luna. It would be really cool to see a Luna Lovegood custom of her!

I don't really see the point in Melody as she's pretty similar to Kizuna, and yeah...Mirai again. Imho, reusing the same sculpt over and over seems like a waste of storage place and...character slots (he can't have too many characters constantly in stock, don't know what else to call it). Although, personally I want try out different faceup styles on SmD heads, as I find their flatness an intriguing canvas, so a new girl with the Mirai sculpt is pointless to from my perspective. I feel like Danny could be making more unique characters instead, like Moonlight. There's so many interesting looks he could try with tea and cocoa that we don't get from Volks. Oh well, fans of the Kizuna/Melody style will get to have fun.

 

Also, what happened to Summer? I thought she stood out a bit more with the daydreaming gyaru look. Quite fond of her personally.

She's still being released. Danny posted a picture on Facebook of the labeling stickers for Melody and Summer. I guess she's coming out after Melody?

I hope he would make the Smartdoll kit available for everyone. The one you have to put together yourself. That would make things easier to me to get at least two more smartdolls

Danny said that the Home Kits will eventually launch internationally but its been delayed with no ETA. Either way, gives me time to save up for it
