LexiKat13 Posted September 29, 2017 OK so I took the advice of another dollfie dream owner and I had a wig that had kinks in it and she recommended pouring boiling water over it. The wig is now fried very frizzy and Stiff. Are there any recommendations on how to fix this or is this wig so lost cause....
Yumeiro Posted September 29, 2017 I take it it was not a heat-resistant wig then?
LexiKat13 Posted September 29, 2017 I'm assuming, it was a volks wig and I read though the different threads that pouring hot water on a wigs slowly will help...guess not
Cauldroness Posted September 29, 2017 Note that there is a big difference between hot water and boiling water. I've treated Volks wigs with hot water and not had issues, but I've never actually used boiling water. I'm not sure if the wig can be salvaged, but try soaking it in a mix of hot (the temperature of tea when you drink it, so steaming but far from boiling) and fabric softener. LexiKat13 Posted September 29, 2017 I'll try that, thanks! Hopefully it will help
CeliathePikachu Posted September 30, 2017 I did the exact same thing. Fabric softener definitely helps, but it's still not as soft as it used to be. I'm still looking for a way to fix it Currently at home: Autumn (DD2 DDH-01), Sakura (MDD3 DDH-08), Haku (Mio Akiyama), Mashiro (Mashiro Mito), Kaito (Vocaloid KAITO) Mashiro Mito is my wife and I love her! Lina Posted December 21, 2017 I'd second soaking it fabric softener for a good few hours and see if that helps. For future reference, when my wigs get frizzy and need some TLC I follow a pretty strict regimen. 1. Brush the wig completely so it's tangle free 2.Soak in fabric softener for about 6 hours (one cap of softener for a glass pan of water, I do not use this pan for food prep) 3. Pat dry with a towel 4. comb the wig and straighten it with a low heat setting on a hair straighter while it's still damp. But for future reference when it comes to work with any heated options for wigs always always always do a strand test before you do it to the whole wig. Doll wigs come in such a wide variety of materials it's hard to say whether or not your wig will be safe from heat, but if you take a small section of hair and test on that you can spare your wig if something goes wrong. I'm really sorry about your wig and made the same mistake once trying to straighten hair many years ago. I hope it works out for you!
Asellus Posted December 21, 2017 I'm going to second the hair straightener. I don't have one (as my hair is pin straight) but I've saved American Girl wigs with that method and an iron. Just need to make sure the hair stays wet. It'll never be like it is new though I think. You may want to consider making sure that your fabric softener is fragrance free. The smell from the fabric softener is going to stick around and it can be strong. Taking an extended break from any purchases to save up for Mariko!
