Nanao Yuriko (The Idolm@ster: Million Live!)

She's probably the big event reveal for the day, so maybe she will be towards the end?

I found it on the Volks site finally; DD talk show takes place at 15:00. So in about 30 minutes I think?

 

(I took your previous advice and set the world clock on iPhone to show me Japan time. I'm still not confident I always get it right.)

I wondered how they were going to do that hair. Blue again too; wonder if it's another stain monster like Chihaya's? Looks more like a solid color so maybe not.

 

I probably won't try for her. I like her but don't love her, and since I can't collect all of these it's best I stick to the ones I really want most.

 

But I hope the clickwar works out for those who do want to get her.

 

Torino, I agree she's a little generic-looking, but the character design for her kinda is too. Still, it also seems kinda like they didn't really follow their typical faceup style for Idolm@ster girls so if I didn't know who she was I wouldn't necessarily guess that's what she belongs to.

In that picture she kinda just looks like ddh14 to me. I’ve never been more glad to not care about a doll lol.

Good luck to everyone else, this release seems brutal.

Her wig and outfit are super cute. Sculpt is... cute but nothing special. I'm sure fans of the character will be happy.

 

e- what does Karin look like from that angle? They seem very similar.

My first thought was a it's a trimmed Chihaya wig. Actually I think they did a fairly good job with it given her hairstyle. Overall I think they did a good job with her. I was kind of wondering how they would end up shaping her head since in the art it has a slightly oblong shape.

So one of her defining characteristics is the two little eyelashes on each side, and Volks put those in. She's got those just about inner-quarter eyelid lines and Volks did that too. It also looks like they gave her a little more blush than the typical DD and she's blushing in that picture.

 

I think that just like Kaede that the doll's eyes are larger. But as with all these girls, they're turning 2D art (or even 3D models) that are pretty simple designs into full 3D objects, so they have a lot of leeway in how they do it. And they needed to make her look unique compared to others like Chihaya. From the art they could've taken more-or-less Chihaya's head sculpt and put the faceup with those eyelashes and that wig on and it would've represented the character well, but it wouldn't have been a unique doll. And if you look at the whole Idolm@ster DD line, I think they've been doing that all along; given certain dolls some minor physical characteritic(s) that may not really exist in the source material but that more separate their appearance from other girls in the series.

D’awwww Yurikoooo. From other people’s pics, I’m a little worried that her face might be sorta flat when viewed from the side, but overall I think she looks pretty good and definitely believable for a Yuriko DDS! I’m glad they did her limited SSR sailor outfit after all over the metallic pink one. I was almost expecting them to do an entirely new outfit instead since I was certain that she would be the one to get a new SSR card/outfit in-game the other day. The only about her I don’t like is her eye design. That style is not how their eyes look like at all—whether in their card artwork, 3D models, anime, etc—but I guess it’s to match other imas DDs.

 

I’m really relieved though.. I think I can pass on her with no regrets. Money is going to be really tight for a while so I probably wouldn’t have been able to get her in the end. I like Yuriko as a character and her DD looks perfectly fine as a representation of her but I’m still unsure if her sculpt would work for any of my characters, which is what matters the most for my doll family in the end..

 

BUT WAIT I saw this blurry picture of the flyer:

 

Now the second page is pretty blurry and I think my eyes could be seeing things wrong but... her price..?! That can’t be ¥39,000 right....??!

Definitely just the blurriness, these pics show it better. 59000....which is still surprisingly ‘cheap’ to me. Not a bad price at all!

That page being blurry and obscuring details of her faceup, it struck me that she looks quite a bit like Karin.

 

The outfit is really cute. I haven't liked all their Idolmaster outfits, some I like the designs but just feel how Volks actually made them leaves something to be desired, like I don't like that material they used for all the original Idolm@ster girls' pink outfits.

 

Edit: I posted at the same time as Torino...wasn't trying to ignore that he already answered. Thanks for the additional pics. From there I can see the data bits too; she's normal skin, medium bust, and has 22mm eyes. Sculptor is Misaki Serika like most DDs these days I think.

Thanks for those. She does look a little flat but doesn't look bad or anything. She's also got that barely-there nose, which is one of the things that is reminiscent of Karin.

Yeah, it doesn't look like anything too horrible. Looking forward to owner pics of her starting tomorrow! Hopefully some of the diehard YurikoPs who undoubtedly dropped many, many yens to support her in the last event will manage to win her in the lottery or clickwar instead of scalpers.. There's certainly a lot of similarities; even the profile looks the same.

 

I'm often confused in judging head sculpts, but I think Yuriko's face is just slightly more angular and less chubby-cheeked than Karin, like how Yuriko looks in these pictures:

I mean I get that they have to differentiate her from others, but you can not do flat face in 3D.

She doesn't look as flat as Towa but only owner pics will tell.

The more I look at the photo's though the more I think they did a good job capturing her look in DD form. I kind of agree about flat faces though. I like the rounder profile of the DD, but so far Million Live is all about the phone games, and they don't seem to show a lot of facial depth in those.

To be fair I agree with you, she does look quite similar to the game. Also it's not quite SMD level flat, I still don't want to see this trend happening though.

 

Practically all the dolls are based off of 2D animation, so they need to take some liberty adapting that into 3d form. It just doesn't look right in a 1/3 scale when you try to keep it too close to a 2d style. Especially when you add in the depth of the eyes and all that.

 

I feel like for the first time Volks has competition for their DD's and I just don't want to see them try to go for a similar aesthetic, skin tones though...they should do that haha!

She's too cute! Not sure I will try for her though.
