Thanks, and yeah when they announced her as a special release I was like screw chancing the clickwar. XD If it had been the normal lottery I might not have gone this route.

 

Practically all the dolls are based off of 2D animation, so they need to take some liberty adapting that into 3d form. It just doesn't look right in a 1/3 scale when you try to keep it too close to a 2d style. Especially when you add in the depth of the eyes and all that.

 

True, in the case of the 765 Pro and CG characters though you have the TV and Manga series too. (Actually no idea if there is a ML manga or not.)

 

I feel like for the first time Volks has competition for their DD's and I just don't want to see them try to go for a similar aesthetic, skin tones though...they should do that haha!

Danny definitely has some good ideas and does nice work. Competition should be a good thing.

There has been a ML manga! I think more than 2 different series??? I only read a few chapters of one and snippets from another, but I’m sure translations are out there somewhere. Unsurprisingly the vast majority of ML’s storyline/lore comes from the original GREE phone game, and now Theater Days though.

My proxy had a low number, and they drew a high number. I think he ended up somewhere around 80th in line, but I didn't ask if he knew how many people got purchase tickets. So figure at a minimum they had 80 - 100 of her.

There are a few on Yahoo Japan too. She's not even selling for all that much, which surprises me. I figured her markup would put her in the $1000 - $1200 range.

I was also surprised that the scalpers werent being too greedy...but maybe they're expecting higher winning bids. Or maybe through chance, none of the greedy ones won?! Just another weird thing about this release.

I kind of thought the same thing, that they might be waiting to see how high the bidding goes.

If she arrives before the clickwar I will be sure to post some head shots in case people are on the fence. If she goes out today I should have her before Friday, but it will be close, and it's going to come down to how long customs takes to process her.

The more I see of her the more I think they nailed her look. As usual the Volks photos just don't do them justice. I can't wait to see her in person. I will say I don't think she looks much like Chihaya. I want to put the two of them next to each other and compare though.

 

I still need to put that head comparison together, but I think I want to add side profiles to it now.

Yep, besides the upper eyelid shape being similar, they’re really different. I’m surprised the most at how Yuriko’s head(and other new DD heads in general I think?) are noticeably big when compared to older releases.

As usual, I'm liking her a lot better in owner pics. In the promo pics and the ones from the event she looks a little flat, but looking at the owner pics I'm thinking that it was just the lighting in the case. She's definitely got some dimension to her face that wasn't obvious in the first pics that came out. I really thought she looked like Karin but the more I look I think it's the way they did her makeup and her expression.

Ok this is pretty fascinating.

 

I feel like in the one where they overlaid the pictures Yuriko's head might be tilted forward making the differences appear greater; her ears look a lot longer there unlike the other pictures with the reference lines, but otherwise this is very useful and perhaps I'm wrong there too.

 

It's interesting Yuriko's head is larger with the headcap being taller; I didn't know they really did that.

shows off a few things besides the relative measurements. First, I hadn't noticed she has the little hash mark blush lines. We can see that indeed her face is a little more flat in the area between the eyes compared to Chihaya. I think it's in part because Yuriko's nose is more just the small little "dot" and you can see both that and the mouth are lower than on Chihaya so it's like her face is vertically stretched out, in comparison.

 

Seeing how Yuriko looks with a long straight wig, I'm now wondering how her head compares to Shiburin's?

She is a little flatter compared to Chihaya and some of the others but that's not to say she looks bad in any way.

 

Karin's makeup is similar, and I suspect the lower nose positioning and mouth may be as well, because I know that's something others had pointed out about Karin in the past.

Awesome, thanks for posting those. I think these should help anyone who is on the fence about her.

 

Her nose is smaller and her forehead isn't as round, but I don't think her face lacks depth. If anything I think those characteristics help to realize the character as a DD.

I have been a big idolm@ster fan since IM@S 2. I fell in love with Dollfie Dream Chihaya the first time I ever saw the promo pictures, and have been a big fan of Volks and Dollfie Dream ever since. I know some are a bit tired of the IM@S girls but I sure do love them. Rin and Chihaya being my favorites. I hope to see a few more great girls from IM@S but I gotta say the last handful have not been any of my best girls. Though with a cast so big and diverse that is bound to happen. My top best girls have already been released, so thats ok. I wonder what method they are using to pick the Million Live girls. Its kind of hard to tell as Yuriko is both one of the most popular girls and is a poster girl. I would like Shizuka Mogami as a realistic option. Shiho second.

I am a big Chihaya fan, and she was my 4th DD. As far as Yuriko Nanao goes I think she was a good choice for the first ML release.

 

I am guessing they will make all of the original 765 Pro girls. I don’t know how they decide the Cinderella Girls. At one point I noticed every CG release was also featured in the Gravure For You series, but I can’t recall if that is still true. It’s not Cinderella Girl election winners, because Mio is becoming known as the eternal 2nd place girl.

As for upcoming Million Live DDs.. I think it's almost certain that Mirai/Shizuka/Tsubasa will be done eventually since they're the main trio. Besides them, I think Anna, Shiho, Serika, and Kotoha are quite popular enough to be possible? Anna and Serika especially... Julia is also kinda up there but idk. She'd be super cool though if they did her 'non-idol' look instead. ^^

 

Considering how Takane was actually made and how Hibiki seems likely as a future 765pro allstar DD release, I wonder if Kaori and Tsumugi, the two new girls who were added to ML in Theater Days last year, have a similarly decent chance as well? Like Takane/Hibiki, those two pretty much shot up the ranks in popularity even though they were added to the cast several years after the others. Kaori has quickly become one of my favorites too and I think there could always be more mature sculpts out there, especially based on actual adult characters, so I'd look forward to her if it ever happens.

 

My actual best girl(Chizuru) has no chance at all. lol How I wish Volks would make a mature head sculpt with Yukiho's eye shape...

Bottom line I think the basic issue with a lot of characters in iM@S is that they wouldn't make very interesting DD, even though they are good characters in the series. Personally I'd love a Miku Maekawa, because I liked the character. Didn't like her at the start, but she really grew on me in the Episode where she cheered on Nana Abe. She went from annoying to awesome in a single scene. I want the character as a DD, but she probably wouldn't be a big seller as a DD and I expect she will never happen.

 

I think they will make Nana though. She would make a good DD, and she was just elected the 7th Cinderella Girl so her popularity isn't in doubt.

 

I am sure Yuriko won't be the last Million Live DD. My proxy said there were 200 people in line for her, and I expect that unless they made a lot of her she won't last long on the webstore event.

Accepting that doll hair can't always fully replicate anime hair, I think Julia's shouldn't be that hard. Standard model DDDy Miko has a shaggy cut that if extended to not just be the lower part of the hair would approach the right style, and DD Len and Rin Kagamine proved Volks isn't afraid to pile on the styling products.

 

With enough wax, Natsuki's is probably doable, but I feel like a bigger issue there is maybe Volks would consider that style too "extreme" for a DD or something. Still I checked some pictures and her hairstyle seemed to vary somewhat from more extreme to a prettier look, and the latter I'm sure could work.

 

Who I want that they probably won't make is Ritsuko. She can have an idol outfit too but I want her in her producer business attire. Also, that would mean Volks would have to make glasses and we can't have that.

I think with Yuriko they have shown they can pull off the look of the Million Live girls pretty well, so we can probably expect them to do some good things with the license in the future.

I'm cautiously optimistic that they will as a part of the 765 Pro releases. AFAIK she is a selectable idol in the games. I was kind of surprised at how much of a fan base she has, although that song she sang in her anime performance was pretty catchy. Pretty sure I have seen video's of her VA performing it at the live events too. Fortunately my co-workers have never caught me singing Ippai Ippai under my breath, or I'd probably be in a straight jacket right now.
