EverTravler Posted October 19, 2017 (edited) Been lurking across several forums/sites for a bit, and finally decided on DollfieDreams. The screen name Evertravler comes from... well... I move constantly for work. Fine by me, I have a severe case of wanderlust. And it's thanks to exactly that, that I've slowly warmed up to Dollfie's and dolls in general. I started with figures, but one day in 2010, while wandering around Akihabara, I stumbled upon an Azone store. At first I looked... then walked away. I later returned, stared, and decided "why not?" and went in. I left with my first doll; Azone Pure Neemo character doll "Sorami Kanata" (I'll post an intro picture or two in the other dolls section later once I'm able). That broke the ice... Even if my roommate was rather surprised at my new purchase. When I moved back to Tokyo two years later I visited a new hobby store right next to the Akihabara Denki-Town exit, and on an upper floor unwittingly walked into a Volks store. I was amazed at the quality, the selection, the customability. Just, that price tag... After about 30 minutes (or more?) of gazing at every last doll there I turned to leave... That's when I saw a sign by the register advertising a "Dolpa" at Tokyo Bigsite in a few weeks... I know Tokyo Bigsite very well. It's the largest convention center in the country. A "Doll's Party" at such a renown venue? I was intrigued. Well, a few weeks came around and I decided to attended Dolpa 27. Again, just blown away. So many different takes on the dolls, displays, furniture... And such a vibrant and overwhelmingly friendly community. I'm glad I decided to sneak my "Kanata" into the event that day (despite her not being a true Volks doll) because she really helped me connect with the people there since once people saw her they realized I wasn't just some random tourist/blogger, but someone who was genuinely interested in the hobby. But, the budget got tight again and my constant life on the road has often caused me to depend on roommates which complicated getting involved further. I did eventually get some Shinki (they are small, fit in eyeglass cases, and can wear Picco Neemo clothes). From 2014-15, in-between work I managed to sneak in about two years worth of travel pictures complete with story that I posted on flicker and a Shinki fan site. With that experience I knew, once the opportunity arose, I needed to get me a Dollfie and enter the fold. Dollfie are just so photogenic! I'm finally in a good spot to get my Dollfie and I'd like to expand upon the experience I've gained with "Shinki Sightseeing" and apply it to the DollfieDream world. I'm definitely going to attend Dolpa again, but next time with my own Dollfie in tow! I just need to decide on size amongst a few other factors. Ability to travel and live out of hotel rooms is a must. Exploring the forums here further I'm sure will assist in that decision. Well, that was a longer intro than anticipated... Has been less of a resit and more of a the cards just weren't in the hand. A situation that has finally improved. Although, I am resisting returning to Eorzea...
