-Mei- the traditional grimoire [DDLucy] -now with Halloween-

Recommended Posts

--Edit: More pictures with buncho's girls and a Halloween theme added! Please scroll down to the later posts--

Mei models the Lilia: The Traditional Grimoire outfit, produced by Azone. Unfortunately the quality of finish wasn't what I had been hoping for, but the detailing is nonetheless beautiful.

This antique lamp in a family friend's home reminded me of the skirt embroidery.

At a meetup, buncho came up with the idea of pairing this mask from the LA Dolpa with Mei's outfit, and using fabric (formerly a skirt) from Daiso as the backdrop. Mei has become a mysterious masked thief in the night...

I will be posting more (Halloween-themed!) shots from said meetup soon!

Wow, she is really beautiful in that outfit and the atmosphere in the photos is so unique The mask was definitely a great idea.

She looks gorgeous in the outfit--love how you've styled her with the wig and mask choices.

What parts of the finish didn't quite work for you? Curious as I have my first Azone girl and was wondering if the clothes are worth it.

I love the dress (And want one now.) and with the mask and background makes for a great photo set.

It does look really nice! I do find that, from seeing them in person, the quality of Azone50 clothing is kind of hit and miss. Usually the 1/6 stuff is better quality than the 50cm stuff for some reason. But there is some good pieces too - at least they look that way in photos - the only Azone50 outfits I own are the 'boyfriend pjs' set (which is back at home - a shame because i'd love to put it on Mel) and the Santa dress from last year which I really like (...which Mel is probably also gonna wear this year instead of Rin)

Thank you so much, everyone, for your replies!

I'm sorry for my sluggish response rate. And my apologies if I sound kind of incoherent, I haven't perhaps had as much sleep as I ought to have had. Life has been rather hectic.

Thanks! The mask was all buncho's idea, and I agree, it works super well.

Thank you! I very much like the effect of a night sky produced by the background.

Thank you!

As for the quality--the detail work, like the tiny pleats and the judicious choices of to-scale lace and buttons, is great. But the seams aren't finished at all, and on the jacket (not shown here) it's quite worrying as the fabric is a type that can fray pretty easily. The jacket also only has a lined bodice, not lined sleeves, and the juncture between the lined and unlined parts looks rather sloppy. The shoes are made with a relatively flimsy material and aren't lined with a second layer of material the way nicer dolls' shoes are (like at least some Volks shoes, and Smart Doll shoes).

I will say I'm kind of, er...snobbish? about what I consider good quality, so this may not bother everyone. But I hope that the information is useful.

I love the dress (And want one now.) and with the mask and background makes for a great photo set.

Thanks! I'm not sure if it would fit DD or DDS (I'm pretty sure the skirt won't) but it would almost certainly fit MDD and DDP.

Thanks! Yeah, I've noticed that with the 1/6 stuff as well. I think it also has to do with the fact that what makes good quality at 1/6th scale is somewhat different--for instance you can get away with not using finished seams with a lot of the fabrics that drape well at small scale.

Those were some good poses! I really like it~

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that especially as I'm trying to get better at posing.

She looks very cute.

Thank you!

And now for some highly delayed other photos from the shoot, feat. some of buncho's girls!

Ahhhhh, I'm so glad to see these post-production!! The backdrops we used really did end up working well-- I'm totally in love with the stained glass window shot! I might have to make use of that more with my girls... I'm also super happy that the mask worked so well. I know I said (read: gushed about) it a few times during the meetup, but I can't help be reminded of P5's "TAKE YOUR TIME" loading screen

The one with the ghost lamp gives such a beautiful glow to Mei's eyes. That little side glance through the mask is just so great!

I also just plain love how expressive she is. She looks so natural with all of my girls and it just makes all of the pictures that much funnier

OH my LAWDY that outfit looks like it was made for her! She is just too adorable, and that mask is absolutely gorgeous too (I have a thing for masks ) I love all the emotions you got into her poses. I've always found posing dolls to be something of an art, you've mastered it!
