Realistic looking furniture

Recommended Posts

Shailara

I originally posted this in the "what you wish Volks changed", but I didn't want to go off topic, so I made one (I'm sorry if there's already one such?)

Recently I saw this on Facebook: https://www.boredpanda.com/mini-furniture-cats-okawa-kagu-japan/

And a person I follow found some pictures of a doll with realistic looking furniture. If I'm not mistaken, they are the same as from that Japanese company:

It looks so great, I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't actual human sized furniture... T_T Anyone in Japan who can get these for me, let me know!

Perhaps we can post here for other kind of great finds and where they can be found? ^_^

Add me to the list of people that would love some of this doll cat sized stuff. Don't know what doll is in those photos, but she seemed pretty DD like in size, which makes that bed purrfect. And the couch would be fantastic for my girls to hang out on.

All I have, besides the Volks school desks, is this old chair from Target I found 2nd hand.

As you can see, it was made for a doll with shorter legs. I've thought about making some longer legs for it, which wouldn't be bad scale wise, but I still want a couch and bed, and dining tables and chairs and such. I'd love to set up an area in my house to be a "studio" apartment for all 5(+) of my girls.

I actually have doll-sized versions of both an IKEA chair and couch, which are perfect matches for the human-sized versions (I have the human-sized chair, too). Both were commissioned from the fantastic Etsy seller, MyLittleBigChair, but it should be noted that the doll-sized furniture costs almost as much as the human-sized stuff! It's usually about $150 for a chair and $200 for a couch.

Admittedly not stuff you can just 'buy', but I did make some doll sized furniture and still have the plans for at least the second one:

A bench made from scraps of maple and mahogany (effectively free aside from the time it took to make)

And an additional sofa made from maple (the materials for this probably cost me around 100$?)

with the original 3d render i made to get the plans from

I also have the volks modern sofa, but I got that from a friend locally because the shipping would probably cost just as much as the sofa itself >_>;

Kinda off topic I know, but can I ask where you've found that guitar? It's a prop I really would like to get

I think if I remember right, I got it from taobao, probably in 2013 or something, so I wouldn't have a link anymore. It came in a cheapo dollar store box prop, so it probably wasnt expensive. That photo is a few years old now too >.<

Thank you very much! I guess I'll be able to find something similar fairly easily then

The pic and the bench are great, by the way ^-^

Etsy has several sellers that make furniture, most of it laser cut wood these days.

Kingstate also makes furniture in varying scales including some in 1/3 I believe.

Most shops I've found on etsy only have up to 1/4 scale or are too expensive for what they are (simple unassembled laset cut boards).

I like everyone's furniture so much though ^_^ I hope to make some myself at some point (I had a lot of fun making a 1/6 scale bed and would like to make bigger ones also).

I generally check eBay for "salesman sample" furniture. It seems to work out a lot of the time as long as you keep in mind the measurements you are given.

Taobao has a few options if you are willing to stomach the shipping.

Like here's a piece I'm dying to get my hands on: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.1-c.w4004-14733434861.9.4e63d9e66eiHSz&id=554868739268
