New Standard Models: DDS Karin, DDdy Towa, MDD Liliru

Someone mentioned giving them their own thread cause we can't stop talking about these girls in the discontinued models thread.

I found some owner pics of Liliru on Twitter! That upper lip sure is pronounced... but I love it, I think it's adorable!

As stated before I'm pretty smitten with Karin. Something about her mold I just really, really like. o3o

Call me crazy, but something about the lower half of Karin's face reminds me a ~little bit~ like Yuki Morikawa.

 

Her nose and smile seem to be pretty similar? The lips aren't as full as Yuki's but there's a slight resemblance in my eyes. I think I'm just bad at seeing similarities though.

 

The eyes are completely different though.

I think her eyes are more like DDH07 or Saber or someone. I'm bad at matching. XD I do adore the eyes. But I TOTALLY see Yuki in there now that you mention it.

 

I think the basic lower half of her head seems really similar. Not exactly the same but I can see how they would look a like other then the eyes.

 

Edit: You added an image at the same time I posted mine. I can really see it now though with the line-up.

I reeeeeeally want to see Karin blank now. There's so much potential.

(I also want to repaint one maybe...)

 

I'll keep my eyes peeled when lurking Instagram or Twitter if I find any non default pictures!

Whenever I do get her I plan to get her face-up redone so maybe I'll attempt to wipe her myself and take pictures. Hopefully someone else does before that though as I'm waiting on someone to take this DDS body off my hands. XD

I've been loving seeing the owner pictures of these girls roll in!

 

...and by "loving," I mean my wallet is a couple hundred dollars lighter now, but that's okay!

 

I would really like to see more pictures of Liliru, particularly when people give her custom face-ups!

Someone in the other thread said something about Karin's hair being wrong, I happen to like it, and that's one of the reasons I'm pining for her. I also have a brighter yellow Volks ponytail wig that she'll wear sometimes after I get her. I just hope I can find more orange wigs that match Karin's after she's been out for a while. Or I need to pay attention and get a couple of her's from splits so I can try custom styling it. She's got to have a pony tail and twin tails.

To me, Karin looks quite different (and younger) in owner pics. In Volks' pic posted above, she is looking downward a little, but in owner pics her face looks slightly longer and narrower!

 

Have to say the inevitable... Towa could make a super cute naive boy.

literally on my knees begging people to change Liliru's eyes so I can see what she looks like, I keep finding pics with different wigs but not eyes. I'm not good at visualizing how it would look on my own.

Thanks so much! I'm glad that that comes across in her styling. The "intelligent and scholarly but maybe a bit naive" look is definitely what I want to communicate, and I was concerned from some of the early pictures when it seemed like the sculpt would just look daydreaming or even "not all there". However, I think the "not all there" thing is dependent on the eye choice (pupil shape, and iris shape and size). buncho's very precise positioning of her eyes also makes her more alert looking, and the peering-over-glasses thing definitely adds to the bookishness, too!

I've been on the fence about Liliru all this time because tbh she looks pretty bad in some photos and ok on others. But I just saw her in person and dang, she's real cute. The lip is pronounced but I think it's cute, DD10 kinda has it too but Liliru doesn't have the chipmunk cheeks that kinda turn me off the 10 sculpt. (Don't get me wrong, it's very cute, just not what I'm after at this time)

To be honest I almost wanted to buy her right then and there but I'm willing to wait, especially cos we're probably gonna find out the next lottery dolls before next Monday. It's good to have a standard MDD with her own sculpt for a change given how ludicrously expensive every limited one I want is on the aftermarket

Yeah, when I got the doll out of the box I opened the top of the plastic wrap, carefully removed the head, and didn't even bother unpacking the body before I returned it to the box

 

Still, because I'd had her DDS body all dressed up and everything beforehand and all I had to do was to add the head and wig, it still felt like I was getting a fullset doll somehow.

As for applying lashes: The way buncho showed me, which seems to work quite well, is to dip a toothpick in water-soluble glue and apply a line of glue with said toothpick along the inside upper edge of the eyewell. Then, using tweezers or similar, take the eyelash and apply the edge with the binding (the thread on which the lashes are attached) to the glue, and hold it there for 10 seconds or so in order to let the glue set. Then you can apply a little more glue atop the binding to "seal" it to the vinyl. Let the head rest a few minutes for the glue to dry completely after adding lashes to each eyewell, and then you can put in the eyes.

 

There are probably Youtube tutorials as well, if a visual explanation is more useful.

 

I very much like the look of the fiber lashes in anime style dolls, as one of my favorite parts of manga illustrations has always been the long, elegant lashes when a girl is seen in profile or 3/4 view.

They sell them on a lot of BJD sites likes Alice's collections but I believe Volks sell them too? (They do in their stores at least, I haven't checked online). As for glue, regular craft glue does just fine.

It's a little trickier than it sounds (at least it was for me) so I do advise checking out some tutorials on YouTube, there's quite a few floating around on there if you search up 'BJD eyelash tutorial'.
