Noob from Canada, no Idea Where to Begin

Hello guys!

 

So I recently found the BJD hobby and having done a lot of reading around forums and retail websites, I still can't make heads or tails of how to begin! I have a few questions for you more experienced enthusiasts and I would really appreciate your help!

 

The biggest question is: how do I start? Where can I buy a BJD in Canada or which vendors ship to Canada? What components should I be getting in order to complete my first BJD? Also, which BJDs are compatible with onaholes or dollhos? Are they universal or do I have to stick with particular brands and their respective onaholes? Where do I buy a dollho in Canada?

 

I apologize for the noob questions and appreciate your help!

Welcome to DollfieDreams from another newbie! This forum is specifically for Dollfie Dreams - that is, Volks' original vinyl anime-styled dolls. BJDs (ball jointed dolls) span the whooooole way from vinyl to resin and there's a lot in that gap!

 

As for how you start, I'm not sure of any Canada-specifics, but Volks USA is a good place to start for Dollfies (they ship internationally), as is DenverDoll for resin BJDs.

 

As for Onaholes or Dollhos, I know those are a Dollfie Dream/vinyl specific thing, but I believe this forum is more for the artistic side of doll collectors. I cannot say how openly or not it is or isn't spoken about but I think it's more of a private side of things, someone else feel free to confirm or deny this. So on that front, my best suggestion would be Google for further queries.

As Raine already answered, this forum is dedicated to a specific "branch" of dolls.

Dollfie Dream is a specific type of doll made by Volks (this is the website http://www.dollfiedream.tokyo/dd_en/ ) with Anime looks and made of vynil with an internal "skeleton" structure. The term BJD is mostly used for stringed resin dolls so it's unclear (or everyone has its opinion on it) if the dollfie dreams are actually bjd

 

You can buy a Dollfie Dream at the usa store http://volksusastore.com/webstores/dollfie/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=812 (in the rules they say they ship to usa, mexico and canada so I think you won't have problems with it, just ask around about custom for canada).

 

As you can see the forum is mostly for discussing news, photos, customisation and the more "artistic" part of the hobby.

As stated by the forum rules, no adult content is permitted here, so talking, links, images and stuff on onaholes/dollho are an absolute no-no. It's something that will not be discussed here.

You'll find just some mentions on them on the forum, and it's mostly people disgusted by it.

 

I think you'll have to ask elsewhere for information on this topic, and maybe this is not the right community it's your main interest about dolls.
