SakuraSylph Posted November 21, 2017 I would say they are almost as impressive as the charity auction one offs. AFAIK the outfits and heads are all previously released Volks stock with a custom face-up, so the character is one of a kind even though the components themselves aren’t one of a kind like the charity dolls. The SD one-offs are indeed awesome works of art, although I should clarify that they aren't always assembled from existing Volks components. Sometimes they are, like in this year's USA Holiday Event, where as you pointed out each of the 16 one-offs was wearing a previously-released Volks outfit. Other times the one-offs get one-of-a-kind outfits made by contracted seamstresses in Japan. That was the case for the Dolls Party LA 2017 tea party, for instance. So, it just depends on what the one-off doll artists want to make and what components have been commissioned at the time. It's an interesting way to see new copies of old outfits show up, like Gothic Witch Alice that the Shinku one-off was wearing.. Sometimes the one-offs use wigs from limited SDs, Volks News releases, or even some that are one-off exclusive use and sold nowhere else. The artists seem to be able to have their choice of a wide variety of components to assemble their special SDs, before painting the exclusive face-up. Actually I'm guessing that might be why we don't see one-offs for the DD side, even as other SD sales styles (FCS, coordinate models) are coming to DD. The DD faceups are done with airbrush and mask templates I'm pretty sure, and each head shape is only going to have its default masks to work with. That'd make it hard / infeasable to do a custom faceup from the company side without changing the DD's look and handling characteristics. So they don't. Still waiting for someone to speak up for Lieselotte and Shinku... SakuraSylph
Gunter Posted November 21, 2017 Still waiting for someone to speak up for Lieselotte and Shinku... Oh? Did you enter for those two? Good luck!~ I actually almost entered for Shinku but feared if I somehow won her and Suigintou that I wouldn't be able to afford them both! (Like that could ever freakin' happen) I'm surprised it seems this time DoA didn't get that big of a haul this time around. But second Suigintou I've lost via this way, and I think I'm like on 15 or so that I've just simply lost (I've lost a lot of auctions) Sad day, sad day. I guess I'll be thinking seriously about Santa Alter now...

Sorry, I should have qualified that I was referring specifically to the Holiday offerings for the last few years, which is as long as I have been paying attention to their Holiday SD lottery. The explanation was really cool though, there is a lot there I didn't know about their one offs, so thank you for taking the time to write that. I have two SD's, one is Belldandy, and the other is Ami Ayase Tokyo SS Ver. Mostly I haven't liked the look of their non anime themed SD's but I kind of fell hard for Ami when I saw her, and it changed my appreciation of them a good deal. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
sinclair Posted November 22, 2017 Welp lottery results came out and I lost *inwardly cries, but new it was coming* So I think I'll look into getting me a Santa Alter. o3o Which lottery? Did I miss something? I believe they are referring to the resin One-Offs they were trying for Ah. Last year there were a couple that I almost put in for. This year there weren't any that caught my eye, so it fell off of my radar. I'll admit that sometimes I forget about the resin half of Volks.

Good luck!~ I actually almost entered for Shinku but feared if I somehow won her and Suigintou that I wouldn't be able to afford them both! (Like that could ever freakin' happen) Thanks! Yeah, I went for those two as well as Rumina's Reisner. (Big fan of Rumina's work in general.) Since we were allowed to enter for however many we wanted, may as well shoot for the moon, right? I thought about Suigintou too, but left her out since I remembered you wanted her way more so she'd be happier there. Sui does show up in the one-off models fairly frequently, as does Shinku for that matter, so we can look forward to next time. Never know - might like that future version even better. I'm just assuming that with enough e-mails having gone out by now, Shinku and Liese are probably spoken for as well, even if no one's said so publicly. Dollie providence seems to be like that, where you end up with the one you're meant to end up with. (I swear that Volks somehow knows the difference between the dolls I like and the dolls I adore everything about, better than I know myself, and makes the lottery results follow suit.) (I swear that Volks somehow knows the difference between the dolls I like and the dolls I adore everything about, better than I know myself, and makes the lottery results follow suit.) Rumina's work is really nice, and plus that was such a soft Reisner which is hard to come by. I think I saw someone claim to have gotten him on DoA as well. :< And that was sweet of you! Sadly, a lot of people would go for Suigintou. And I was thinking something very similar, that yes, I liked this Suigintou more than last year but I still feel I could see her with an even more elegant face-up. So maybe my luck/Volks mindtapped me and went "nah" this time around. I'll be waiting for next year as always. Hopefully because they did all SD this year around they don't change it to all MSD this next year. ><; I liked the all SD lottery~ Plus even though I have a Romantic Glance Williams I REALLY want to see him as a one-off model as well. Volks is just a magical entity that knows all doll-wise. Hopefully we both get what we wanted next time around! ~~~ And while I wanted Santa Alter I had to think hard cause I wasn't sure about that white skin--and the fact that no matter what I thought I didn't really like any of the ideas I was comin' up with for her. (Just boring or really missing something) So between the WS and lack of inspiration I decided I'll be good. I'm more thinking about my full Saber and DDS Karin who both have clear ideas and places in my mind (lets face for Saber it is to just be Saber in her full kingly glory). XD But I did enter in the lottery for a couple of things. Interesting that somehow none of the dolls sold out at all. I guess simply put too many releases makes it hard to really sell them. I think Rin just only recently sold out on Volks JP....which means that took a awfully long time. Edited November 26, 2017 by Guest
asianed Posted November 26, 2017 I entered for a Twinkle Snow outfit, hopefully less people are going for it because of the presence of Ribbon Girl. I was fortunate to have a friend nab one for me at Anime Expo! I do love my resins equally as much as my vinyls, they just need to be treated differently. I'm much more selective as to where I take Bell and Chii, first because of the weight and second because of the fragility. Chii especially only goes out for super special occasions. shikaree Posted November 30, 2017 The lottery results are out (if you check usergroups). Won the ribbon girl, how about that.
Poofiemus Posted December 1, 2017 My usergroup for blue 2020 says "Active"; does that mean I won or that it hasn't been drawn yet?? In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
shikaree Posted December 1, 2017 If you're in a user group you've won that item. You can use the search to find the item to purchase if you don't want to wait until the email. It only shows up if you're in the right user group (and make sure you're logged in). Although it seems emails are now being sent.
