DD Sailor Moon!

Her face just seems too plain... especially with her standard outfit. I’ve seen customs with standard heads that have more personality/spark.

 

Though, it does seem to suit the Super outfit better, maybe because it’s more elegant and somber when she uses Crisis makeup? Almost like they made the face mold to suit the additional outfit vs the default one.

 

So, I’m a bit torn. I want her to add to my giant Mahou Shoujo collection, but if she’s hard to get I may pass. Hopefully they give more details about her being a preorder or they over produce to meet most of the demand.

She is nice, but I think DjVanisher's custom and bunnycream96's customs (sorry, lost the link to their website) are much nicer, so easy pass for me, despite the deep nostalgic attack. That Super set looks really tempting though; good thing I'm completely broke.

 

If they do a Venus, I may end up singing a different tune. >.>

So, I can't read Japanese, the Super Sailor Moon outfit is an extra outfit, not another whole doll, like Miku and Snow Miku? That would make me happy. The thing that's going to bug me is that Volks Int and Volks USA would probably have lottery at the same time, and my luck I'd not win if I only put into one of them, but I'd win both if I put into both of them. I only need one doll, but I do want both outfits. Here's hoping they make the princess dress and Eternal Sailor Moon (My fav outfit.) too. All I know is she just became my grail (Is that even possible, a DD grail before they are released?). Sm was my gate way into anime just as Miku was my gateway into DD. Being I can officially mix the two is sugoi!

She’ll be December Dolpa. The most you can probably hope for is something like the Miku license where she gets rereleased every so often.

I wonder how many people who get are are going to customize her to look more like the classic 90s Sailor Moon.

 

She is cute, but there is something about her that looks a little off. But who knows, it could just be a case of Volks taking terrible pictures. Although, I do hope she ends up like Miku. It would be nice to eventually get her, but she's not really worth interrupting my current doll plans for.

I'd love to see Volks make the rest of the scouts, though.

I think the rest of her face is pretty close to the Crystal artwork, but large eyes are so much a part of Takeuchi-sans artistic style going back to the original Sailor Moon it's just hard for me to see her as Usagi. She is beautiful, and I'd say we'll probably get a much better feel for her when we see fan photos.

 

I have to say if this was Ami, Minako, or Rei my December plans would be so wrecked. As is Usagi was my least favorite of the Inner Senshi, so I'm safe.

 

Still, better than Chibi-Usa. I'd take DD Queen Beryl over her

 

What will be interesting is if they announce Tuxedo Mask as a DD boy to go with her in December. A lot of folks here will go nuts if that happens I'm thinking.

Her sculpt is meh.. not bad not great. The eye design really isn’t that great either.

It would be great if they did the other scouts but I think it may just be her,chibi usa possibly Tuxedo Mask.

 

I was kind of worried for this day after I began work on my custom Jupiter. Based on her sculpt though I definitely think I’ll be fine... might want some outfits and accessories though.

I agree with those who say she has that Princess Serenity vibe more than Usagi. I haven't re-watched Sailormoon lately but she's always been one of the biggest reason for why I love anime so I am quite excited about her (and maybe Tuxedo Mask?). I'm almost glad I never got Nami so I can enter for Sailormoon when she's up for lottery. I'd love a Chibiusa too...

The outfits turned out awesome, but I am just not feeling that face. Then again, Sailor Moon isn't one of my main reasons, so I'm looking at her more as custom bait anyway.

I'm really disappointed that we got two more Saberfaces for pre-orders and Sailor Moon is a likely lotto. It would have been so much better if that situation had been reversed.

I'm happy with the Sabers, but If they had done all the inner senshi as pre-orders....

 

It would be amazing.

 

Honestly though the original Saber with Armor sets are so expensive on ebay I am glad they have made them available thought a pre-order. It opens that set up to a lot of folks who can't consider aftermarket, and it is an awesome set.

 

Thanks for posting the side by side images. I can see there is one other difference that I find a bit off from my own image of Usagi. The DD version has cheekbones, and the line art doesn't. Of course this makes her look very different, but I think in a 3D head she would look wrong if her face wasn't rounded in the right places. The face sculptor has to interpret a 2D character into 3D so of course it will be a bit different. I have no doubt she will be stunning in person.

 

I still think her eyes should be bigger, but once again reality/physics probably limits what they can do. You have to fit those eyes inside the head.

 

Now we just have to wait for the Volks News 76 scans to hit sunday night/monday morning.

Here is the schedule as it should work in my head.

 

First Usagi/Mamoru

Then Ami/Rei

Then Mako/Minako (And Minako should rightly come with a sailor V set.)

Then Chibi-Usa/Hotaru

Then Haruka/Michiru

Then Setsuna

 

Seriously I don't really care if it takes them 5 - 10 years I hope they did a full license and they make them all.

They could totally do a lot of stuff. Just the super outfit sets & wands would make great extra releases, and a lot of their street clothing was great. There is Rei's super stylish school uniform too.

She has always been my fave Scout due to her cool attitude, her casual attire, that amazing green Sailor Scout uniform and lastly..... that ponytail! I think she's the reason I love ponytails so much.

Never saw this coming at all! While I do love Sailor Moon, like most, I don't feel this sculpt/faceup does it for me. I can't wait to see more photos especially of her outfits.

I'm on the same boat here. Is it weird that I was more of a DBZ kind of person, people did find it odd for a girl to enjoy DBZ instead of Sailor Moon back in the day.

 

But yeah... the head sculpt doesn't really look like Sailor Moon to me. As someone mentioned, DJVanisher's custom Sailor Moon is 10x nicer and true to the character than the official Volks one.

I agree that she looks more like the Moon in Crystal, but I also think it's hard to judge her eye size when Volks photos make their eyes look smaller than IRL for some reason. I still remember first seeing the official pics of Kagamine Rin and thinking 'she's cute but aren't her eyes kinda small for Rin?' Of course, IRL, her eyes are HUGE (and also adorable).

I'm still trying to figure out what it is about Volks photos. Especially because I've noticed that the SDs rarely have this problem. It's true that they still look better in person, but they tend to look more like the official photos in my experience. At least compared to DDs.

 

Theres no scans of Volks news because it isn't out yet - it comes out on Monday and I will take some pics if they haven't already been scanned by the time I finish work (and they usually are). But I'm much more interested in the photos at Dolpa next month.

(Unrelated but Volks news will also have a report of LA Dolpa...I wonder if any of you will be visible?)
