DD Sailor Moon!

I think its probably cos you wouldnt really notice the looseness if the bow is there. Covering the chest part of the candypop dress with a bow/bows is how I hide the looseness when its on Miku or Rin (another outfit it says fits SS when it clearly doesn't lol)

 

edit: I notice that the symbol on her just says 'sumika', and it doesn't mention lottery anywhere. That makes it sound like she's first come first serve...offline, at least. Maybe she's still a lottery online? Cos otherwise it'll be a huge clickwar. Either way it looks like she'll be available in stores/online in january if its with all the other Sumika stuff.

Anyone want to be proxy and get her and her extra outfit for me then? That'd save me the huge stress of a click war/lottery.

 

I also noticed it looked like she's listed as a M bust, but she doesn't look that big in the photos. We'll see. What skin color is she?

I believe I see she's an M. It's a little weird that her outfit can fit even SS if she's M, but who knows what they mean by this (maybe that it'll be only slightly loose...?)

 

Yeah you can barely make it out on those scans, but it does say M. She totally doesn't look it in the photos. M is pretty big on DDS. I tend to think of what Volks calls S as being normal size on real people, and what they call M is large on people. Their L is more like Extra Extra Large, and totally unrealistic on a skinny body.

 

In any event the iM@S Star Piece Memories set was sold as fitting SS - M. They included a set of falsies for Chihaya, their only SS in the iM@S line. The outfit doesn't really fit her though. Even with the falsies it's really baggy in the chest. It looks somewhat better on Makoto who is S, but it's still baggy in the chest.

 

This is kind of a pet peeve of mine, but I think they should make a bust size between M & L, and call that L. They can then call their L Extra Large. Then they should make outfits like that one in SS - S, M - L, and XL.

 

As is anything you make for their L size won't fit anything else, and their decision to make SS - M for all the rest is pretty bad. The outfits themselves look so nice it kind of sucks they don't fit smaller busts properly.

I'm going to be the outlier here, I think, but I really like her. She definitely has more of the Crystal/manga look as opposed to the original TV series, but that works for me. I don't care for the photoshopped image at all, tbh. But I freely admit that the DDs I like and am drawn to are the ones with more mature faces.

 

My biggest concern is how difficult Volks is going to make it to acquire her.

You may not need it though. There's a little "Sumika Item" bubble next to Sailor Moon in the Volks News scans, which, unless it's a misprint, means she'll be clickwar and not lottery. Further information wasn't in the scans I saw, but I'm sure it will become clear in the next few weeks as the info gets ported to the Dolpa web site.

Even Emilia had a symbol that said 'new dollfie' instead of 'lottery', so it's really curious to me.

She was still a lottery online though so im really curious what will happen online with SM, because at the Fu kuoka store at least Emilia was also first come first served along with the rest of the Sumika stuff.

I'm not sure what they might mean exactly in relation to Sailor Moon since the juxtaposition is highly unusual, but.. As to the icon itself this is a quick summary.

 

The Sumika bubble itself isn't a new thing; it is normally attached to the regular (non-limited) clothes and accessories releases for a Dolpa. It signifies that the designated item will be sold in the Dolpa's Sumika Shop on a first-come basis, so that's how you'd need to buy it if interested. You've probably seen it in your Volks Newses before but just glanced over it, as the lil' bubble is often tucked away on the side of a page for the clothes so it can be easy to overlook. In the VN76 scans I can see it tucked off to the side for the penguin kigurumi and the red Santa outfits for instance.

 

The Sumika bubble has been attached to standard model dolls like Aoi, Yukino, and similar, but I haven't seen it for a licensed character doll or outfit before. That's the unusual bit. And why I'm really curious to see what Volks has in mind for Sailor Moon!

 

(There has been at least one misprint in Volks News before, where the wrong icon got attached to an item. The one I saw was 2014ish, but I don't remember the details.. I wish I still had my old Volks News issues to check. I was living in Japan at the time and went to every Tokyo Dolpa, so paid close attention to those details and remember being surprised. At least until Volks issued an apology and correction soon after VN came out. So it's unclear juuust yet if the icon is a misprint or seriously a new way of marketing Sailor Moon.)

Ah, to clarify I didn't mean I'd never seen the Sumika bubble, just never seen it on a collab model in place of the usual lottery/preorder ones. But thanks for confirming this is indeed a first! Looking forward to more info online cos VN is always kinda scant when it come to webstore info.

Ah, that makes sense. You seem pretty detail-oriented to me so I figured you hadn't missed them entirely! But I wrote about them anyway just in case. Definitely haven't seen one attached to a character doll myself before, outside of a misprint. I hope they're serious about it this time, as that'd be something new and interesting.

Dolpa 38's website is up even though I see no news about it atm. I hesitated in creating a new thread but I saw no purpose for it like everything is already discussed either in this thread or the Volks News thread, and I guess that's why I don't see many Dolpa threads.

@Sechs - I dont think people usually create threads for Dolpa events themselves unless its something less common like one in the US, or if someone was going and wanted to organize a meetup, etc, as like you said all the items are already discussed in their relevant threads. (stuff like Snow Miku and Magical Mirai tends to get threads because new announcements happen there, and they usually don't at Dolpa (at least no recent ones??), although the LA one was an exception with them showing off that Dollfie Icon thing. (SD-styled vinyl dolls with DD bodies)

As for what you quoted, that one actually says she's limited to the sumika shop at Dolpa...which sounds more ominous than it actually is, it just means for that date. Volks News does clarify that she's available at the afterevent on the 21st of Jan, and the always unhelpful info about the details for web-orders to be clarified 'at a later date'. If she really is treated the same as all other sumika items, then she's a clickwar, but there is still the possibility that online orders are being treated differently as they often are. (as with Emilia)

I just checked, its 20mm. Smaller than I would have expected.

That is small. SM has always been know for very large eyes.

That is super weird. I wonder if she could be modded to have taller eye sockets to accept 24mm eyes. That might help with the small eye disconnect.

Wow! That is really small! I personally like 20mm in most of my girls, as I like to have a bit of white showing, but that's really uncommon to be a default size...especially for a character that is supposed to be so wide eyed.

I just...Volks...what?!

I was waiting so much for a Sailor Moon DD release but I right now I am both exited and disappointed at the same time.

I am very picky when it comes to Sailor Moon and I've seen customs much more accurate then this.

I feel this head is not fitting. Such small eyes. And the wig looks so "made in a hurry".

As for the outfit I dont like the fact that they made everything the wrong shade of red :s I adore the super sailor moon outfit though.

 

I have to say that I feel the exact same way. The outfit is beautiful (and I may purchase it separately) however I feel that she needs to look cuter. Her face is a bit strange looking, which I felt the same about the Asuna Dollfie that came out this year as well.

Her chin was more of a sharp triangle, but the Volks photos really amplified that effect. Someone posted a side by side with V1 & V2 awhile back and V2 looked much nicer in that photo than in the Volks one. V1 still won in my book, but I could see why people liked V2 just as much or more as a question of personal taste.

Yeah Asuna V2 looks way better in person than in the official photos. I also think she looks better with a different pair of eyes.
