DD Sailor Moon!

Volks USA just posted about it on FB as well! Time to try my luck at that sweet sweet Supers costume

 

(plus Dolls Party 38 Outfits. yay)

Just came here to post about this! Think I'm gonna try for the outfit. I wasn't originally interested but I'd rather get it now instead of fall in love with it later and have to spend 400$ on it lol.

 

I LOVE the super outfit, it's my favorite form (specifically the Holy Grail version, so the one for the DD) but something about the DD outfit is lacking and I can't quite place it- it just doesn't have the ethereal vibe that I get from this outfit in the manga and anime. I also have more Super Sailor Moon dolls than any of her other forms, along with a custom 12'' one from Mini Couture incoming, so I feel like it might be overkill on my part.

Does anyone want to split her for the upcoming USA lottery? I'm really looking for the wig possibly her head.

Also sidenote/disclaimer, I mentioned it earlier but it could have gotten buried in my text wall LOL- Apparently the tiara can cause staining, so you guys might want to look out for that. Someone on IG posted in their review that it stained her forehead and they had to line the bottom portion with tape to prevent it from happening again.

Her tiara didn't stain my SM doll. Nothing did actually. As for the gloves, mine haven't ripped either, I just took my time and got them on her hands.

That's good to hear! I'm not too worried about the gloves, I have plans to leave her out of her uniform most of the time just to prevent anything from getting lost or falling off on display. I ordered a roll of tape from Volks right after I read that review, I'm reaaaaalllly overprotective of dolls. I'll probably get a bodystocking when I order her a single-piece torso too.

 

Ooh where did you get that Seifuku? It looks pretty close to Minako's school uniform.

Yeah I want an S bust for mine too, typically I prefer a smaller bust on my dolls and I feel it would be better for Usagi. Plus I hear the outfit is already kind of tight, S bust would probably fit a bit more.

If you ever feel like changing any part, just get a different skirt. Think the anime draws them as knife-pleats, and your girl has box pleats

Thanks for the comments on her outfit. I'm just glad I had all those parts already and didn't have to hunt any down. Just proves that Volks could really easily put her school uniform together. Well, I guess they'd have to change the skirt (I don't know anything about pleats, didn't realize that there were different kinds.). And I'm also glad her hair doesn't look too bad. I do wish it was more meatball shaped, but this will do. I just wish they offered extra wigs for her. I think she'll go through them more than Miku would. So if anyone finds a source for more SM wigs, or long hair wigs of the same color, please share here.

 

And hope everyone is united with their little girls soon.

Mine just got here and I can't even open her yet! I stalled work for an hour to wait for her but now I DEFINITELY have to get back on track, which means she can't come out for the next eight hours. It'll be hard to work when the box is sitting right next to me LOL

My girl arrived today and I've only just got to opening the box...

 

She's wonderful! I haven't been this excited in a long time! I'm going to savor the experience...

I just took mine out finally! Just the doll, haven't gone after the clothes but I did pull out the Heart Moon Rod because it's so cute lol. I popped on a LeekWorld wig (which looks like I need to cut the bangs again, they're too long despite me cutting them once already)

 

I haven't had a vinyl 1/3 doll in AGES so I was like 'omg' when I saw how big she was. She's STUNNING.

 

Edit: (will probably update this as I go through everything lol) it looks like they've changed the strap on the boots, like the part where the crescents go? I remember it just being a thread when I was watching reviews from Dolpa IIRC, but it's a ribbon strap sewn to it now. I just slipped the crescents on and it's VERY tight so I don't see them falling off. Idk if this is a new thing or if it's always been that way but they're very secure on mine.

She's almost completely assembled! Her tiara isn't on just because I'd already fixed her bangs to frame her face and didn't want to do that all over again lol. Gloves were a bit annoying, I couldn't get one of her hands off so I had to deal with the fingered gloves, didn't feel like heating the hand up to remove.

 

Her wig is conflicting! I'm very impressed with the rooted parting, I love that feature on wigs and I knew it was like that but it's so much more impressive in person- also love the fact that the top line of the fringe is rooted rather than a folded weft.

 

Bangs are really nice, I brushed them a little bit but I think I'll put a wax in them (Azone styling wax) to shape them a little more and make the tendrils go down a bit.

 

The tails....are lowkey annoying me but I'll ignore it. They look fine but kind of messy, I wish they'd packaged the wig in a way that left the tails basically immobile (maybe a box with the tails in little tubes to keep them organized). I'm probably going to have to put something in them and gently brush through with a wide-toothed comb so the shaft is a little more sleek, but they look good from a distance. Keep in mind I'm an avid doll restylist so I'm going to notice every little thing about doll hair.

 

I'm leaving them curly for now but I might eventually straighten the tails, then give them a more gentle curl just to make them a little more sleek. I'm no stranger to flat ironing doll hair (which, if you're using the correct tools, you can iron any hair type without melting it) but also have plans to get several more wigs for her so I'm not going to play much with the stock wig. I'm hesitant to do any tugging on them for fear of disrupting the top section. I think a teeny bit of an anti-frizz product and a light brush will do wonders, perhaps even a little wax on the ends.

 

But JFC she's the most beautiful creation I have ever laid eyes on. Sailor Moon is a VERY important thing to me, and I've been waiting for Volks to make a DD of her since I was....twelve? Like right when DD started coming out I was wanting one of her.

 

Only problem is now she's standing right next to my vintage SM doll display and towering above them, thus pulling my focus to her instead of all of the dolls I spent months acquiring and styling LOL. Will probably take off her uniform and wig soon and find something for her to wear until I can find a more "Usagi' casual outfit, just because I want to keep the outfit and wig pristine.

 

Now to get a stand and an S bust. I feel like having a DD is kind of like buying a horse- buying the horse is the LEAST expensive part of owning it lol

Screw it, I'm flat ironing the tails. Just finished with one, now onto the other. At first I was just smoothing out a kink in the shaft, and it felt sooooo smooth that I couldn't stop. I straightened it completely, cut 1/2 off the ends because it was too long, then very lightly curled it.

 

If anyone is gasping and also curious, I use an ION Titanium flat iron from Sally's at 160 degrees for this hair type.

i was thinking they mustve be doing improvements to her seeing she was delayed a month. this makes sense.

UPDATE I decided to straighten the tails on her wig, I originally just went in there to straighten out a kink on the shafts of them but after I got through that section it felt super soft, which made the ends look raggedy in comparison so I straightened them entirely. They were a good two inches longer after they were straightened so I trimmed like 1/2 inch off and gave the ends a slight curl. I might layer them even more so that the very end is more pointed, but so far I'm loving them and I can do poses where the hair is actually interacting with the doll/environment rather than just...being there lol.

 

I don't recommend anyone do this (nor do I think anyone would want to, because most people are not hair freaks like me) but if you do want to learn how to heat style doll hair, shoot me a PM and I'll give you some pointers and suggestions.

 

Here is the wig back on Usagi (with flash because my room is pretty dim)! I styled the fringe and tendrils with a little Azone Styling Wax too. Now she is absolutely perfect to me!

@Serena-Hime- Now her tails look like Miku's. I'm glad you got them to be more like you like, even if it isn't the way I'd do it. I do like the curl the wig comes with, but your style does seem like it'd work better for posing and interaction like you stated, good job.

 

@Oni-Chan- Such cuties!!!!!! Who's that in pink (Which head, I'm wanting one now, she'd make an adorable MDD.)? And where did you get those adorable dresses?
