This Isn't Your Mother's Elf On The Shelf (Santa Alter)

Finally got talking into setting the tree up last night. My other main hobby is model trains so there is a train around the tree. Looks like she figured out how to run it.

It isn't Christmas yet.

 

Now that a tree has been put up, Christmas presents have appeared. She's getting a little nosy.

 

We had a church Christmas dinner on Saturday, and they had some empty presents for decoration. Afterwards they said you could take some if you wanted. My oldest did (No clue why. What teenager would want empty presents?) and placed them on his desk in his room for decoration. Saber mush have been exploring and found these presents to protect.

 

AH HA! I know what you're getting for Christmas this year from your teen...and he didn't even have to wrap it himself!!

And he might just be getting coal. He kept complaining about her being in there, calling her creepy and stuff.

 

So being Saber, she went looking for food.

 

 

The container of cotton candy is proving to be a rather formidable foe.

After she was recharged, she went for higher ground.

 

This is such a great idea. I would try it but my sister would probably freak out about my "creepy dolls" moving around the house

My 4 year old is loving this. The 1st thing he does when he gets up is to hunt her down. He found her in the tree right away. This morning we learned why she was in the tree.

 

 

She just had to climb to the top. I hope she doesn't try for any higher, I don't think it'd end pretty.

I wish I had someone in the house to do this with, it looks like so much fun!

It is such a cool idea! Kind of like a treasure hunt advent calendar. I'm with Baldy there, no one here to enjoy the hunt with.

It has been fun, it's kind of like a month long themed photo project. I think I might do it again next year, but we'll see. As for seeing, not sure how my 4 year old will react when he sees her this morning. It didn't end pretty.

 

Well, hopefully she learned her lesson and won't be up in the tree again. Now she's taking it easy.

 

Now she's looking for some music to listen to.

 

I'd recommend some Mannheim Steamroller Christmas!

 

The best Christmas music is the Charlie Brown Christmas stuff!

Elf on the shelf, Saber style. Love it. Especially having a kid to get into it and encourage the imagination.

 

I especially loved the "accident". oops lol. Hope kiddo caught on that she got carried away at the top.

 

PS: The train picture. It's just so great. Saber driving the train is a world of awesome in itself.

With music selected, she took the best seat in the house to listen.

 

She's playing with a car now. I like her tastes.

 

K2 and Baldylox, you two are dead on with your Xmas tastes! I have both Charlie Brown Christmas and Mannheim Steamroller in my Christmas playlist. Alongside Abney Park's minor-key Christmas stuff and a smattering of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong numbers.

 

This is a pretty fun idea, Sinclair! I take it even the littlest of your flesh-and-blood kids are actually being respectful of Saber, if you've been putting her in low places like the floor?

Poofie the reason I'm not a Mannheim fan is because back when I worked retail in home and car audio, EVERY holiday season my manager would break out the Steamroller and blast it on the home stereos for TWO MONTHS. After 5 years of that, I grew to despise that type of music. At first it was cool, then it just wore on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard.

 

Charlie Brown on the other hand is basically the soundtrack of my holidays as a child. It brings back great memories.

 

Music for me is all about associations with my life at the time. It might sound weird but I'm one of those people who hear a clip of music and get goosebumps..... I'm transported back in time and can see everything that occurred when that music was playing for the first time.

He is. At first he just needed to be reminded a couple times not to touch. And thus far the worse thing to happen happened today. THe TV was just turned on and he was backing up without taking his eyes off of the TV, and before we could jump up to stop him he tripped over Saber. He was okay, Saber ended up on her back like a turtle with her limbs all sticking up in the air. It was funny to see her that way.

Wanting to make sure the younger boys didn't feel left out, Saber spent the day in their room.

 

I'm so glad her bag is starting to look a little more full! I was beginning to worry!! Merry Christmas!!

With only one more day, Saber has taken to guarding the present stash to make sure no one gets an early start on unwrapping.
