aaircrash Posted December 16, 2011 I collect figures, unfortunately I've had to definitely limit how much I spend on them each month so I could start saving for a DD :\ my only other hobbies consist of running cross country (which aside from buying running shoes doesn't cost anything) and gaming (I get a discount at EB games because of my job though so it doesnt completely empty my wallet xD)! MisterAmishrolf Posted December 19, 2011 Where to even begin! My DD hobby came directly from my figure collecting hobby! I started with figma, then got hooked on Nendos, THEN moved on to PVCs and also Model kits! We have a LOT... And it drains a good chunk of money! My fella got into electric remote controlled cars starting with Tamiyas and then he moved on into Rock Crawlers and now into scaled buggies. I think we have 11 different RC cars all over the apartment! >_< Those two hobbies suck the most money - we have a serious love for anything Japanese! lol basically this, minus model kits and cars Xb but i also enjoy drawing and singing

SakuraSylph Posted December 27, 2011 I have several other hobbies aside from Dollfie Dream, to include: * Video Gaming: Primarily Rock Band 2 as a world-ranked singer, but also Idolm@ster, Portal, Deathsmiles, and various RPGs and rhythm games. * Reading: Books of varied genres. It is a good way to learn new skills, like flooring and plumbing. * Collecting Autographed CDs: Usually requires long-distance trips to anime conventions, for voice actresses and bands. Some notable Japanese entries here include Kikuko Inoue, Shoko Nakagawa, and Kanon Wakeshima. It's a pretty safe bet that I'll like anything from Japanese pop culture, so while I don't spend tons of money on any one hobby, I do spend a little on a variety of different hobbies. How do I fund these things? Mostly by being extremely particular about what I buy. I enjoy a lot of things for free (books from the library, borrowed games, online pictures of anime figures) and then spend my own money to buy a handful of the ones I loved the most. milkytea Posted December 27, 2011 Dollfie Dream is actually one of my more "minor" hobbies, particularly because for me it is part of my more general interest in "pretty dolls with big eyes." My most significant hobby is collecting My Little Pony figures. I only collect the toys, not other merchandise, but I collect playsets and accessories as well as the actual ponies. I'm very specific about what I collect--the ponies released between 2003 - 2008 (G3) and then 2010 - present (Friendship is Magic). Pony collecting was one of my first real hobbies. The G3 ponies were released when I was in high school, which was a really tough time for me (;___; *sniffle*). Seeing those brightly-coloured cute little toys made me feel less miserable. Now that the line has been redesigned and the show is airing, I'm even happier~ ♥ Honestly, though, the My Little Pony collection is not where most of my money goes. Ponies, even rare ones, aren't very pricey. (That's very lucky for me--when it comes to the ponies, I'm a completist.) I wear lolita fashion. That is where my money disappears to. $_$ I don't buy the latest dresses to keep up with the newest styles or surf the sales community constantly, but it doesn't matter. There are still plenty of ways for money to leak out of my wallet and clothing and/or accessories to arrive at my house. I don't wear lolita every day, but I wear it as frequently as I can. On days that I'm not at work I try my best to dress up. I can even wear it to work, but I don't like to. This hobby is absolutely the most major focus of my funds. Dolls probably come next~ I have a few dolls of assorted types--a few ball-jointed dolls and a few Pullips, and of course I'm hoping to be successful in bringing home a Dollfie Dream in the beginning of the new year. More than buying dolls, however, I like to buy doll clothing and accessories. This is mainly for the ball-jointed dolls; I adore my two Pullips exactly as they are, in the outfits they arrived in. My two ball-jointed dolls are the ones I like to shop for--more wigs, more clothing, more shoes~ *_* Those are the things I love to track down for them. I even like having different eye options, but I'm miserably bad at positioning eyes so I don't really change them very often. One of the things that appeals to me about the Dollfie Dream dolls is that they can share some wigs and outfits with my larger doll--that's even more of an excuse to buy doll clothing~ ♥ It can certainly be more difficult to budget myself now that I have three expensive hobbies rather than just one not-too-terribly-expensive hobby, but I don't have any real tips or tricks. I simply take a look at the money I have to spend on my hobbies, look at the options of things for my hobbies, and plan accordingly. I've always been a person who is very careful with her money, so I don't really worry too much. I don't often feel like I really "have to have" something, so I don't bemoan a missed purchase if I just can't make it work. I also try to keep a little bit of spendable savings just in case something really "must have" appears, that way I'll be prepared~ I like all of my hobbies very much; I don't want to give any of them up just because of the cost. SakuraSylph Posted December 27, 2011 @milkytea: Hah hah, how about combining the two and putting your soon-to-get DD doll in lolita clothing too?! Wouldn't that be nifty. Doll fashion seems to be harder to find than hitting the BabySSB store, but every so often something in the lolita style shows up from Volks. Maybe you'll know better where to look that I do. Doll fashion seems to be harder to find than hitting the BabySSB store, but every so often something in the lolita style shows up from Volks. Maybe you'll know better where to look that I do. That's actually something I have been interested in, but the really nice lolita fashion pieces for dolls are very pricey; oftentimes it's quite a bit more than I would expect to pay for something for myself. I know that it's more difficult to make clothing on a smaller scale, and I also know that the doll clothing is much more limited. However, I generally enjoy wearing lolita clothing more than I like seeing it on my dolls. Plus, there are so many beautiful outfits for dolls that I would never wear myself. I'd love to have at least one matching set, though~ I've seen quite a few pictures of lolita girls matching their dolls, and I think it can be really cute! I do keep an eye on the collaborations between Volks and BABY. There are a few other companies that make some lolita-style outfits, but the Volks/BABY ones are really the best. (Although I've seen some amazing handmade outfits from talented seamstresses, too~) I really want Lieselotte's dress set~ *_* Ah, maybe someday...
DJStarstryker Posted December 28, 2011 Video games is probably my largest one. I've been gaming since the late '80s or so. My tastes in gaming have really evolved over the years, but the amount of time I spend playing them hasn't really. Writing is the second. I started this maybe when I was 12 or 13. It helped me get through my depressive teenage years and I've clung to it ever since. I don't plan to publish anything and I don't really share my writing so much... it's mostly a thing for myself as a stress reliever and a way to escape reality for a little while. I'm also a really big fan of reading. I've been reading since I was very young, maybe 5 years old. I mostly read fantasy, science fiction, and manga, but I've been known to read non-fiction, biographies, mysteries, and other things too. A more recent hobby of mine is guitar. I've wanted to play since I was young but parents couldn't afford it. Thanks to video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band my interest just grew. Now that there's video games around that help keep me motivated, like Rock Band 3's pro mode and also Rocksmith, I've learned a lot more than I ever did. I own 2 guitars, a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic and a Fender Squier Stratocaster electric, the special version that works with Rock Band 3. I'm also into music (mostly rock), anime, movies (both American and foreign), and anything Japanese pop culture related. So, yeah, I have many expensive hobbies. But I just juggle them all by being selective on what I buy and trying to get things cheaper if I can. For instance, I rarely buy video games at the $60 new price point, just a few each year that I really am looking forward to. The rest I wait for price drops and/or sales. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
animex99 Posted December 28, 2011 Boy do I have alota other hobbies. Gundam Building Photography Cosplay Broad gaming Miniature Wargaming Roleplaying Airsoft That's all I can think of for now. Feed them is quite hard. I find that I will focus on one hobby for a while, and then switch my focus onto another. Some hobbies can cross over which really helps. Photography can go with all my other hobbies, but camera gear sure can cost alot.
wgn_white Posted December 28, 2011 Beside playing with my little Yuu-chan (That's her name.) I can't say I'm collecting DD because she's the only one I have now... Watching anime is common, I think? (Yeah, I'm into this.) Other than that, I am an addict internet surfer. Spend most of the times in front of my laptop with Yuu-chan sitting on the table beside me. I'm a blogger. If someone found my blog, don't forget to say hi. But I doubt anyone knows. 1.Audiophile equipment (this eats my spare time and gets most of my investment) I'm a composer. Trying to stand up in the music industry stage, with my original composition. The artists are myself, my band, friends, and Vocaloid. Well, caska perhaps you can listen and critics my music sometimes. Radio Controlled cars. I used to be BIG into these but haven't messed with them in a while. I occasionally run them around the house and with my sister but that's it. I still have 8 of them ranging from on road street cars to off road monster trucks to an actual dragster. All electric tho, I hate gas powered ones. RC is also in my interest but more to scale crawlers and plane. Never thought of making a robot RC to serve as the body for your girls? A more recent hobby of mine is guitar. I've wanted to play since I was young but parents couldn't afford it. Thanks to video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band my interest just grew. DJStarstryker Posted December 29, 2011 I love rock music too. But the only rock Japanese band that I like and being big fans of is SCANDAL. and K-ON! OBVIOUSLY! I don't really like much Japanese rock music, honestly. It doesn't really help that I don't think most Japanese men can sing very well. I like SCANDAL, but they're pop rock, more similar to the US band Paramore. My favorite Japanese artists are Shoko Nakagawa (J-pop, though she has a few really fantastic rock songs - like Tyrant Too Young, which is heavier rock than even a lot of SCANDAL's stuff) and Kanon Wakeshima (technically she falls under the genre of visual kei, but it's hard to put her music under a genre). For American stuff, I like 80's hair metal (Motley Crue, The Scorpions, etc), 90's alternative and grunge (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Third Eye Blind, etc), 2000's era indies (Bang Camaro, Jonathan Coulton, etc). Also love classic rock from the 70's. Biggest band I'm into at the moment is Finnish symphonic metal band Amberian Dawn. I want to go to Finland to see them live one day. Are you ready to rock? ^_^

There're other band too but the sound are more likely the same like I mentioned before. Well, actually I listen to the songs and sound rather than picking a band. tubatime1010 Posted December 29, 2011 My hobbies are unfortunately few and far between because of a grueling work schedule that's had me working 7 days a week for 9 of the last 10 months. When I do get free time I try my best to get in some Japanese study time but there's no guarantees there. It's a little draining at times so it's not always exactly the most relaxing thing to do after a long day at work. I seem to have trouble figuring out where all of my time goes after I get home from work and turn on the computer...so I'd have to say that my most frequent activity is vegging out in front of the computer with little recollection of what I have done. I collect figures but I've been trying to thin out my collection for a little while in order to get some more dollfie stuff. I also collect and spend way too much money on AKB48 memorabilia (posters, magazines, CDs, etc) centering mostly on my three favorite members: Minegishi Minami, Kashiwagi Yuki and Kobayashi Kana. I feed my other hobbies by trying my hardest to keep my DD family small. I've bought all of my dolls "second-hand" (though still like new) as well...so that helps. To join in the jmusic conversation: I like AKB48, SCANDAL, RADWIMPS, Flumpool and a few other minor idol groups.

milkytea Posted December 29, 2011 Oooh, Country Lolita! I don't have any Lolita clothing (yet), but I love the way it looks! Probably one of the only ways I'd ever wear a skirt. I really don't wear country myself, but I particularly love that dress and the way they've coordinated it. *_* That way I can enjoy seeing it looking fantastic on a doll without wearing it. I usually wear a lot of pink, but the pink version (not for dolls, for humans) isn't as striking as the red one. I hope that you're able to get some lolita clothes for yourself eventually, if you want them. Dressing up can be a lot of fun. ♥
Pahsmina Posted January 8, 2013 1. Drawing, my lifelong dream is to work with illustrating books or making comic strips so drawing material is a pretty high priority for me. Especially since I prefer to paint with watercolours and man those papers are so expencive....orz 2. Cosplay, this didn't matter for me that much a couple of years ago, but lately cosplay have become a very big interest of mine. I always want my costumes to look as good as possible, so finding the right fabric and accessories is very important for me. Sometimes I find them cheap, and sometimes I need to open up my wallet a bit more then expected. D: 3. Lolita fashion. Now that I finally have a job again, lolita fashion is once again a part of my life. But this time it's a bit more expensive then the last time, because now 9%% of my wishlist is Angelic Pretty items...orz Well, all these hobbies costs a lot, but I feed them by saving up money for the items I need/want. Pretty much all you can do. And once in a while I get an art commission or two that gives me some extra cash. Hpyon Posted January 8, 2013 The most expensive one's probably cars, at the moment specifically sportscars imported from Japan but probably will get something euro (Porsche or Lotus) once midlife crisis hits well it'll still be a while until that luckily. I like tinkering with cars, driving them both on the back roads and a little faster on the local racetracks, and of course all the social stuff associated like going to meets and events. Another major thing is cons and cosplay. Well, that all of course stems from anime & manga which is what most of my time is spent on but that's a bit of a given. Attending cons and organizing them, meeting friends, holding panels, making cosplay and photographing others definitely is one of the highlights of the year. Photography also ties into both of those and I finally upgraded from my old hand-me-down set to a more expensive DSLR body - going to be useful for dolls as well! And I love music a lot but feel a bit too old for concerts nowadays so I don't go to that many yearly anymore. Metal & prog's close to my heart, recently seen Alcest, Katatonia & Devin Townsend shows.
SchroedingersCat Posted January 10, 2013 I have more hobbies than I have time to indulge them all, so I kinda go through phases. I play tabletop war games, mainly Warhammer 40k and its offshoots. I primarily play Eldar, but also Sisters of Battle and Imperial Guard. Necromunda and Blood Bowl are also big ones for me. I play card games, including poker, but my big ones are CCGs including Magic the Gathering and Weiss Schwarz. I've played almost every major CCG release in about 15 years. Board games. I used to be a really big chess player, but these days I focus on Settlers of Catan and Risk. Also into smaller games as well, Illuminati being one that I really enjoy. I play a mean game of monopoly too. Video games. Everything. I have every console of the last several generations, but I'm primarily a PC guy. I absolutely love Nintendo's core games though (Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong). And Blizzard and Bioware pretty much own my soul. Anime and manga has been my largest hobby since I first realised that all my favourite cartoons came from Japan. My collection is well over 800 DVDs and bluray disks. I also have a couple of dozen anime figurines of characters who really grab me. Macross and Full Metal Panic are my favourites. Cinema and theatre are another interest as well. I try to get to plays, orchestral performances or circuses 3-4 times a year. BIG fan of the Cirque du Soleil and the Eminence Orchestra. I usually go to the cinema to see pretty much every major movie release. In terms of music I have an extremely eclectic taste, so I'll just list a few musicians I really like: Seal, Linkin Park, Savage Garden, Evanescence, Yuki Kajiura, Yoko Kanno, Ayumi Hamasaki, Enya, Dire Straits, John Farnham... That'll do, otherwise it'll get too long. And my oldest hobby is fantasy and science fiction novels. I read 4-6 books a month, and about a book every two days when in on holiday. I've read a great many novels over the years XD. Scifi and fantasy tv series are big ones for me as well. The number of hours I have spent watching Star Trek and Star Gate over the years would probably be enough to qualify me for doctorates Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty! faustbane Posted January 15, 2013 I have way too many hobbies and not nearly enough cash, haha. Most of my hobbies are either creative or collecting things. In the creative category, I sew, paint, draw, sculpt, shoot and develop photos, and do crafts. In the collecting category, I collect Pyrex dishes, re-ment miniatures, cute stationary, art/coffee tables books, art supplies, anime/game figures, and Star Trek memorabilia. I'm also like computer hardware/ building computers and web design I feed my hobbies by working 6 days a week, haha. No trick to it, just good old hard work. DivinitaAria Posted January 16, 2013 Alongside dolls, cosplaying is my favorite hobby ever. I enjoy sewing and have started collecting tools for leather craft (and oh boy it is costing a pretty penny ). I was and still kinda am into lolita, but I started selling some stuff I owned because it just got too expensive. I would like to have a 'go-to' outfit though! Those are three very expensive hobbies, so I had to let one go. Paying for cosplay and dolls is difficult...I've been trying to get a new sewing machine for a long while, and was about to purchase one until Rise came out so I had to try for her I ended up buying 3 new dolls 2012 so now my focus is going on my Hilde cosplay Between the fabric and leather, Hilde is going to cost me a pretty penny. I am praying no more Persona 4 dolls get released for a long while. Keijogirl Posted January 16, 2013 I love photography. Lenses, lights and gas are murder sometimes lol. Other than that big one it was resin bjds. I've pretty much almost stopped entirely with collecting those except for tinies lol. I sew too and sometimes fabric really does nickel and dime through my wallet, because I get ideas to make stuff and want to buy the fabric then and there. I feed my other hobbies with money from either selling clothes I make or keeping some for myself. Shailara Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) Well, does drawing count as a hobby? ><; My Intuos4 was a gift from my dad like 5-6 years ago, so I didn't have to pay for it. Now I'm thinking of moving to cintiq, so if I decide it, I'll stop with the dolly purchases to save up for it >^<; I try to make some money out of art, although since I'm not very known around the internet, I get no commissioners XD;;; But I get a steady income every month, although I try not to use much of it. I've been thinking of opening face-up commissions on DoA too though, still thinking about it. I also play games. Thankfully I'm not an obsessed player or anything so I'm not up-to-date with the latest games and such. When I search around for games, I usually find a lot of them at lowered prices (since they've been released for a while) and even second hand (just got Little Big Planet for 4 euro for the PSP a few days back). I collect manga, but not many so there's not much spent on them. I only collect ones I really really like. Reading, if it counts also? I prefer getting my books in english since they're quite cheaper (about 10 euro) than translated. But again, I don't keep up-to-date with the latest books and such so I only look for them once in a while. Soenatte Posted January 18, 2013 Hmmm I read a lot both literature and manga... And by lot I mean a lot; several ones a month too, though I had to slow down as of recently. I draw a lot and also try to make some money out of art but sans the couple commissioners I ever got I've had little luck. Aaaaand I play video games also~ lots and lots of video games xD; ps2, ps3 and ds... and I'm also planning on getting a 3ds sometime in the near future... the release of Pokemon X and Y makes me more motivated than ever. I save up for all my things the same way i save up for dolls... I cut back on stuff and the money just pools. Kumi Posted January 18, 2013 For a long time I was interested in electronic music and sound synthesis. Sometimes I try to make some sounds but it's almost free hobby except the time. There are tons of free programs for making electronic music, DAWs, synthesizers, samplers, effects etc. Many of studio quality. Unfortunately, I can't play much on the keyboard... Anyway, few days ago I made something slightly crazy - I bought a broken digital piano. Full size, upright, glossy black and 88 weighted keys. For 50$ it was a steal, even only for the keybed I was thinking of making a keyboard controller but after close examination, there's hope that the CPU can be fixed. Leaked battery ate some of the traces around flash memory chip and maybe it's only this. I hope so Then maybe I'll learn to play piano...
