Restring an SD help

I am in the process of restringing a Volk's SD. Is there different ways to string the legs, if so can someone direct me to the different ways. I believe I am doing it right but I've heard of people restringing the legs different ways.

The two ways I know is two different strings for each leg that goes from head to each foot and one string for both that you pull the string separately from each hole at the legs.

I agree with Shailara. Volks strings both legs with one piece of elastic. You can use a clamp (hemostat) to hold the elastic taut in one leg while you string the other leg. The following pictures use one piece of elastic.

 

1) To determine how much leg elastic you need, lay out your doll's pieces as if he/she is assembled, then stretch out the elastic from neck to ankle.

 

2) Pull the elastic taut in both legs to even out the elastic.

 

3) Clamp the elastic in one hip socket while you string the other leg.

 

You can string each leg with its own piece of elastic to avoid having to use the clamp, but you will have more knots to worry about. I prefer to put the knots inside the torso, so they're not in the head getting in the way if I want to change eyes. Don't trim the ends of the elastic until you're sure you have the right length for each leg.

Thanks galatia9, Follow up question for any one. How do you equal out the arms and hide the knot? Plus it can be hard to get the strings behind the legs pieces now in place.

Bad news... I always string the arms first for that very reason! I put the knot inside the torso. I even out the arm elastic on both sides of the torso, and clamp one armhole in place while I string the other arm.

I just went ahead and had a Volks Doctor restring my SD. It cost a bit, but solved my problem. Though, on a brighter side doing this at Volks I got a new Birth certificate for my SD. Now my SD feels even more mine!! Thanks to everyone for the help above.
