Snow in the South!

YESSSSS!

 

It took 8 years but we finally got snow here in SC again! And boy did we get snow! At my house it dropped at least 5 inches in 1 day! We rarely get any snow at all and when we do it's like half an inch if that. So to get 4 and 5 inches and have it stick is about unheard of.

 

So what did I do once it got piled up outside? I grabbed one of my little MDD girls and went to play in it!

 

Hitomi was really wanting to go so I let her.

It was snowing the whole time we were out there but it did come down hard a few times.

She wanted to go run out into the street but I told her no. We decided to go into the backyard instead.

Here's one of my plants out front. It sleeted ice for a few hours before the snow started so we had a good base for the snow to cling to and stay on.

In the backyard the snow was beginning to cover the ground but my patio was already thick with it.

I let Lenny into the garage while I was in the backyard and crazy as it sounds, he wanted to check out the snow! He's an indoor cat and rarely goes out so I was amazed he would even TRY to walk around in the snow but he wandered around for about 5 minutes before deciding it was too cold for his liking.

And so ends our snow time. I was out there about an hour and my toes and fingers went completely numb. The snow is still there today but the sun is out so I'm sure some of it will start to melt. But it won't be completely gone for a few days since it will be in the 30's for highs and lows in the 20's for the rest of this week. Maybe I'll get another girl and do more pics if I can shake off the cold.

I'm really enjoying all the snow pictures being posted lately. A 5-6" dumping is pretty common up here in Chicago so I don't think much of it (other than traffic's going to be a mess). Seeing these spreads from you folks who don't get measurable amounts of snow (and some of you who do) makes a snow storm special again.

Glad you're having fun. We're getting mid 70's as our winter days. If we got even a 1/4 inch of snow the whole place would shut down not knowing what to do.

meanwhile up in the frozen North... *sigh*

we had the icicles thing happening on bushes couple weeks ago, and it was hilarious how all those bits of ice rained down freaking out the dog

Hitomi and Lenny are both so cute! It's nice to get snow, have it stick long enough for photos. . . and then know it'll be gone in a day or two so you don't have to keep trudging through dirty snow for weeks.

I love the fact that you are loving a little bit of snow! We have about 2 feet of snow and temperatures in the minus 30 to minus 40 range so no going outside for anything unless we are absolutely desperate! It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey around here!! Brrrrr!

Thank you sir! It's VERY rare for us to get so much snow and then have it stick for several days. Most of the time it'll snow and then the next day it's gone. We're going on 5 days now with icy roads and snowy yards!

We are having fun for the most part. All the snow has kept me from working tho so I'm beginning to get a little stir crazy all cooped up in my house. And we are just like you, if someone sees more than 2 snowflakes falling at the same time, the whole city rolls up the sidewalks and shuts down. It's hilarious to see.

Thanks so much! I'm still amazed Lenny ventured out into it on his own. And it's been 5 days of snow now so I'm already tired of dealing with it. Today it's supposed to be in the low 40's and tomorrow back up into the 50's so I'm praying this stuff will finally melt off so I can get back to my normal life of working and driving around over 20mph again.

It's so rare for us to get ANY snow here tho! Much less have it stick around for days! I took advantage of it tho and got some more pics of my Ryomou out in it..... I'll be posting those shots soon. And I don't blame you for not leaving your house. That is WAY too dang cold to do anything!

..... 40s sounds warm right now....

because up here it has been 1~10°F ... and that's during the day and not counting windchill! (temperatures in Fahrenheit shouldn't be negatives, she screamed from somewhere inside her blanket fort)

Today's forecast cheerfully announced "not as cold" ...and then showed 15°F

 

We deal by having giant barrels of sand & mountains of salt prepped sometime in November.... also we complain a lot, but in true New Englander ways everyone still continues having iced coffees from Dunkin's

 

anyway, looking forward to some Ryomou shots next ^___^
