Wow, so much hate for the DD2 bodies in here. Am I one of the only ones who actually prefer the DD2 over the DD3? I haven't found very many poses that the DD3 can do that the DD2 can't. And the DD2 is WAY more stable than the DD3 is, more sturdy too with less fear of breaking.

Also, *to me*, the DD3 looks a bit more anemic.... especially around the waist. The thigh gaps also drive me nuts as they are way too large for my liking.

But I digress. Everyone prefers different things but I really didn't think people disliked the DD2 bodies so much. A good 2/3 of my girls are on those bodies and I refuse to change them over to the newer ones. Same for the DDdy and DDdy3. Sure the DDdy3 does sit a bit better but other than that, it's not much different in posing and playing.

As for the whole mixup thing at Mandarake, I'm glad they are taking care of a refund for you but man, it really does suck that you can't get what was advertised. Waiting for another to pop up is no fun at all. I hope you can get another soon and that it's in perfect shape!

Tbh that's why I prefer DDS above all the other body types so far lol. It looks the least skinny in the waist to me. The curve of the hip is more slight to me and so it feels more natural to me. So I feel you there. I took one look at the waist on this body when I opened it and went "this is not a DDS" within a second. I don't like such a noticeable hip curve for my own dolls, everyone has their preferences indeed

The wait certainly is a pain. I could order a brand new one from Volks international after I get my refund, but I was hoping to save a tiny bit by getting a used one(the money saved was going towards buying an SS bust anyway though). But luckily the thing about the waist reminded me of why I really don't want to use a regular DD for this doll, so I won't give in to impatience and cheapness by buying the one from Nagoya

Yeah sorry, but having the arms fall back down when you put them up, and having to pose them with their legs in a V if I want them to sit up has turned me off to that particular body.

I haven't really noticed the hip gap, but mine usually wear pants or skirts so I never see their hips.

Edit: Just looking back over the thread all of the hate on the DDII body was me. And just to be clear I have no doubt it was good for its time. Volks seems to be making efforts to improving their bodies with each new model, which I think is pretty cool for a doll company.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

ROFL!!

I agree, Volks is always improving. The DD2 body was a definite improvement over the strung DD1! But the DD2 had a good long run. I have a couple of them, and sometimes the arms pose well, and other times they just seem to give up. I haven't had sitting problems with them, though.

And back on topic, I hope you acquire the DDS SWS body you want soon, Noxxbunny.

The arms drooping is wear and tear, the newer bodies are going to do it too given enough play and posing. That's what friction does.... wears things out over time. But that's easily fixed with either some super glue or clear tape around the arm pegs. As for sitting with legs in a "V", none of mine need that done to support them, even the older ones. Heck, most of mine ( not ALL tho ) can sit up without help and have their ankles crossed too. So I'm not sure what's happening with the ones you've had.

Most of the time mine are covered too but those times I want them in lingerie or swimsuits, that gap drives me nuts. XD

Hee hee, no biggie. You are entitled to that opinion for sure. I'm not upset about it at all. You have your body preferences, I have mine and the OP loves the DDS. That's why this hobby is so cool and fun.... we all get what we like and enjoy it our way!

And you're right, Volks does try to do better over time and that's great. I admire them for that. I'm very interested to see how the new frame setup works with Saber and Jeanne at the end of this year.

Heck, most of mine ( not ALL tho ) can sit up without help and have their ankles crossed too. So I'm not sure what's happening with the ones you've had.

All three of mine do the arm thing, and one was NIB. It isn't the peg and socket that is the issue, it's the other joint in the upper arm. I'm not sure of the proper word for it, but if you put their arms up at a 90 degree angle to the torso they fall right back down to their sides. Mio has it the worst, and the same floppiness issue exists with her hip joint too. In her case it probably is aggravated by wear. Her wig, and accessories were in perfect shape so I think her prior owner took good care of her, and probably just played with her a lot.

When I say putting their legs in a V what I mean is if you sit them in an upright position with their knees together they can't sit all the way up because the upper thighs hits the torso, and can't go any farther. Spread the knees apart and the torso can come farther forward. I don't have this issue with DDIII/DDS, but as you pointed out they have a hip gap, so maybe that's the price you pay for a larger range of movement. The DDP can bend even farther with a more minimal gap. The hip on the DDP seems to borrow some ideas from their SD lines.

Most of the time mine are covered too but those times I want them in lingerie or swimsuits, that gap drives me nuts. XD

Lol, that's not what I was getting at, but I can see how it would be taken that way. I just mean I only ever really see that join when I am doing stain checks. Even if I put them in a Bikini I usually try to position it a bit low on the pelvis so that the gaps are covered by the cloth. Better to show a bit too much cheek up top than the gap between legs and hip. Right now my Yui and Mio are both wearing the baby dolls from last year. Yui has this sort of Yui-ish "Hey look at me, I'm totally incapable of being embarrassed" thing going on, and Mio is hiding behind her saying "Please no one see me, please no one see me" over and over. I'm as bad as Sawako with those two sometimes.

I love all my DD's. I actually think I like the DDS best myself, but this may have more to do with the girls themselves than a preference for DDS over DDIII. I want the new bodies for Lily, Mio, and Yui, so they can be enjoyed even more. I have no regrets about the effort I put into restoring Yui's DDII body. I just want something better for her now.

When I was saying DDIII before I was mentally including DDS, because it is basically the same mechanical design, just a younger version of the DDIII.

And you're right, Volks does try to do better over time and that's great. I admire them for that. I'm very interested to see how the new frame setup works with Saber and Jeanne at the end of this year.

On the DDP the new body is great. The shoulders and hips look very natural, the waist/hip size ratio is more realistic, and overall the ascetics of the body are greatly improved. I find the arm's don't have the same pose-ability as the DDIII, but they lack the double joint at the elbow. How much of this is due to smaller size, and the body intending to fit the tween age range we'll have to see when Saber & Jeanne come out. I hope they keep that more natural aesthetic in the new DDS/DD bodies.

I would say DDII in normal skin, from the pictures. I actually don’t mind the DdII at all, it’s a huge pain to change out parts.. but I don’t hate them. I’m sort of surprised at how many people seem to dislike them so much!

I once had Mandarake send me a body that was no where in described condition as well. It was badly yellowed and wreaked of cigarette smoke. I contacted them and they acted like they didn’t believe me, and told me I could send it back to them at my expense and they would re-evaluate it.. then I could either pay shipping again to get it back from them, or just be out all of the money. Needless to say given that, they were extremely uncooperative.

It looks like we got the bodies from different stores though, I’m glad the store you bought from was willing to work with you! It sounds like they were really good about it.

Do you mind me asking which location that was? So maybe I know to either avoid them or ask for additional photos before ever buying from them. that's like night and day with the service I've been getting from Utsunomiya. They just asked me that I send it back with the cheapest method and they'll compensate me for it when I give them a copy of the reciept. I'm sorry they were so unhelpful with you!

...I'm a stinker when it comes to these things, so I probably would've taken a ban in return for getting my money back from Paypal. I don't let anyone think they can just walk off with my money, especially not in the $200+ range lol. That's not happening. I was pretty worried they wouldn't believe me either because it's such a common scam now to switch out items and then mess with the seller..

Sorry it took me so long to reply! I miss posts too easily.

The store was Nakano, surprisingly. I’d had good luck with them before, and usually they have excellent prices. I don’t mind getting dolls in not perfect condition, I enjoy fixing them up.. but smoke smell kills it for me. I get so worried it might spread to my other dolls, and it’s so difficult to get rid of. Plus yellowing from smoke is usually there to stay, no matter what you do. Thankfully the body I bought wasn’t $200 or too close to that, so while it was still expensive it could’ve been worse. I was willing to take the hit simply because I figured it was worth trying to fix, and I would be losing money regardless if I did a return. Honestly though PayPal probably would’ve forced them to let me return it. Sad thing is this is I had been buying from them for a couple of years, and now I haven’t bought much since. I know they’re all different stores, but it’s frustrating.

If it makes any diffence, Someone else I know ordered something from the Nakano Store at around the same time, and it came not as described too. It was one tiny re-me too set, that was supposed to come with the box and manual too. It came loosely wrapped in a baggy with no box, $30 shipping. It only weighed an ounce or two!

Who knows though, it definitely could be a one off thing where they had someone new or that didn’t know what they were doing working that part of the store at the time.
