littlebearries Posted December 14, 2011 Going through the "Other hobbies" thread, I see quite a few of us seem to be avid readers...so... what are you reading? (Other than manga, there's already a "what manga are you reading" thread, LOL)
galatia9 Posted December 14, 2011 "The Silmarillion" by Tolkien, probably for the 4th time. Gearing up for "The Hobbit" movie in 2012. LOL! I just finished three different autobiographies, each by a Japanese pilot, sailor and soldier during WWII. Lizik-chan Posted December 14, 2011 Currently I'm reading "Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. I've almost finished it actually. It was a wile since I've read fantasy book and I'm really taken by this one. Not sure about what's next so far
Galvatim Posted December 14, 2011 I'm reading Transformers: Exodus, which is surprisingly enjoyable. I just finished Vampire Hunter D: Tyrant's Stars parts 3 & 4, which was pretty good. The preview for the next Hunter D seemed really interesting, but it won't be out until fall next year!
arthur_mx Posted December 14, 2011 I've just finished reading "let me in" a vampire story that even have it's movie in two different versions and I'm starting the "Steve Jobs biography"
archangeli Posted December 14, 2011 I just started Out of Oz, by Gregory Macguire. It's the latest book in the Wicked series. I hesitate to say "the last" since every time he writes one he says it'll be his last and then a couple of years later something new is out. I'm also re-reading At Home, by Bill Bryson because it's that interesting. It's a history of the rooms in the average home, the items in them, how they came about, etc. Archangeli.net | Twitter: @MsArchangeli | YouTube: Archangeli
AerisAquata Posted December 14, 2011 I've got a bunch of books loaded up on my E-reader, so right now I'm reading A Clash of Kings and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I recently finished Inheritance and A Game of Thrones.
littlebearries Posted December 14, 2011 "The Silmarillion" by Tolkien, probably for the 4th time. Gearing up for "The Hobbit" movie in 2012. LOL! YAY! ... I actually had a Tolkien class in college and had to read the Silmarillion for that... I swear, I'd never mapped out family trees for a book before. I recently finished Inheritance and A Game of Thrones. Let us know what you think about these books, did you just finish the first Game of Thrones, or all of them?... I was thinking of making the first post kind of a summary of people's opinions (like, book titles can earn smiley, neutral or frowny faces, LOL) I just started Out of Oz, by Gregory Macguire. It's the latest book in the Wicked series. I hesitate to say "the last" since every time he writes one he says it'll be his last and then a couple of years later something new is out. How did you feel about the first book in this series? Right now I'm reading Wildwood by Colin Meloy, and I will shamefully admit I picked it up mostly because of Carson Ellis's beautiful illustrations that can be found all throughout the book. However, the book so far is pretty good.

I'm also re-reading At Home, by Bill Bryson because it's that interesting. It's a history of the rooms in the average home, the items in them, how they came about, etc. Is that one any good, after the end of the second one I was completely disenchanted for the whole series. I've got a bunch of books loaded up on my E-reader, so right now I'm reading A Clash of Kings and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I recently finished Inheritance and A Game of Thrones. My boyfriend keeps telling me that I need to check out Game of Thrones, but with the series out now I'm much more likely to watch first, and then read it. I just did that with the first few books in the Legend of the Seeker series. Though I did recently read the Vampire Diaries and then watched that load of hogwash. (I think the TV series is pretty awful compared to the books on that one). I'm, at this moment, reading a series called The New Kid By Temple Mathews, it's one I snagged at Borders right before they closed down, but honestly I'm rather enjoying the kid-demonhunter thing. A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. Do whatever pleases you in this hobby, because otherwise, why do it at all? aaircrash Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) I've been reading the Anne of Green Gables series by L. M. Montgomery (I'm going to P.E.I in May so I thought I'd prepare a bit xD). I'm also rereading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton but I've been rereading that book since the first time I picked it up five years ago. AerisAquata Posted December 14, 2011 The series is called A Song of Ice And Fire, Littlebearries. The first book is A Game of Thrones. Inheritance was very good, it made up for how awful Brisingr was! There were a few Doctor Who references in it that made me laugh, and you won't believe what was in the Vault of Souls! Game of Thrones was nice, though I struggled through some parts because I don't like the POV character. Daenerys and Arya are my favorite characters!
littlebearries Posted December 14, 2011 The series is called A Song of Ice And Fire, Littlebearries. The first book is A Game of Thrones. I know, lol, but with the tv show out, most of the people I talk to are just calling the whole thing "The Game of Thrones series" ... so I never know anymore!!! I've actually read all of them except the newest one... but having had to wait several years for it, I should probably just go back and reread them all. JoltFiend Posted December 14, 2011 I'm currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I've read pretty much everything he's written. I've also recently finished the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz and the first two books of the Song of Fire and Ice series. I have a backlog of books I still need to get through. I managed to get the hardcover versions of books 4 through 10 of the Wheel of Time series for $1 each. There are still some books from a recent library book sale I still need to get to, as well. So many books, so little time ; ; I like the idea of smiley/neutral/sad faces for book reviews. XD
AerisAquata Posted December 14, 2011 OMG, Wheel of Time! That's like one of my favorite series! I want to learn embroidery so I can make a Brown Ajah shawl. I simply cannot wait until the last book comes out!
Innocentsake Posted December 14, 2011 Right now I'm currently trying to read "One Day" by David Nicholls. My friend loaned it to me telling me I had to give it a read. I've only read the first chapter so far which was a bit slow and started a bit of the second chapter which is picking up the pace. So maybe I'll finish it one day ^^;;;

baldylox Posted December 15, 2011 Compared to the rest of you guys, I've been doing LIGHT reading! I normally read a little before bed to relax a bit so I try not to read anything "heavy" so it's always magazines or manga. Right now I'm re-reading Azumanga Daioh for like the 4th time. I love this series so much! It's always entertaining and the characters are top notch. I asked for more manga for Christmas so hopefully I can add some new stuff to my library! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
AerisAquata Posted December 15, 2011 I like to read manga too! I just go through it so fast...I can get through a decently sized book in a day.
arthur_mx Posted December 15, 2011 I like reading but I prefer to do it electronically so I do that on my iPad and I was thinking to give my mom a reader for Christmas but I want to know if you could suggest any options, I want a reader that has a decent PDF support, and I discard giving her an iPad because it's a little bit bigger for that purpose and I think she wouldn't use most of the features. Thanks
baldylox Posted December 15, 2011 I like to read manga too! I just go through it so fast...I can get through a decently sized book in a day. Trust me, I have to pace myself so I *don't* go thru it all in one sitting! I try and read 2 chapters a night but sometimes do 3 if it's a good spot in the story. Oh and you should definitely check out The Outsiders lol, it really is a good book! I like to read manga too! I just go through it so fast...I can get through a decently sized book in a day. This. I stopped buy manga after my friend decided to give me all of his (there were at least 60 books) and I ended up going through it in a couple of days. If one of my other friends has something lying around I'll read it but its just not worth my money to purchase them anymore ^^; Wishing Uzuki Shimamura, Rin Shibuya Owning Miriam (Smart Doll Mirai), Alexia (DDS Marisa Kirisame)
MisterAmishrolf Posted December 22, 2011 i've been meaning to pick back up on my Alfred Hitchcock's Tales of Terror book. i've only read a few chapters (although, each chapter is just a different short story). its not that i dont like reading, im just a relatively slow reader. having watched more TV than reading books as i grew up, when i do read i like to play every scene in my head as if im watching a show, no matter what the book (even textbooks i try to turn them into educational shows). milkytea Posted December 22, 2011 I'm currently reading Villette by Charlotte Brontë. (I love her works; heck, I love most of the sisters' writings. I could reread Jane Eyre until my eyes fall out~) I am really enjoying Villette; I'll be sorry when it's finally over~ (Although I do want to see how the story unfolds--I really enjoy Lucy's point of view.)
