sinclair Posted February 9, 2018 In a few weeks we're doing a family trip to So. Cal. We're staying in Anaheim for a week, and plan to go to San Diego a couple of those days. Is there anything doll related to go see. Not sure I'll have time for any kind of meetups, unless they are evening maybe. And what's the best way to get to San Diego from Anaheim? I saw somewhere online that you could take Amtrak, but that's like $650 for 7 people to do it two days up and back. Just seems a lot for a 2 hour train trip. Is there some other public transportation to do that? I know Utah has something that's only like $5 a head for the whole day.
Noxxbunny Posted February 9, 2018 Huh. That is a little pricey even for Amtrak. When I go north from LAX to Santa Barbara, it's a $31-$40 trip each way for a 2 and half hour ride. Maybe it's more to keep going south? Ouch. Hopefully someone has a better method. I'm only ever in Anaheim for Disneyland lol. But I wouldn't get your hopes up for any sort of $5 travel between cities. not in Cali anyway. If there is a way though, I'd like to know too I have family out in Oceanside and that would certainly make it easier. Hope you have a nice trip though! ajl Posted February 12, 2018 Uh, nope. No public transit, unfortunately. Sorry. SoCal doesn't believe in that, especially from anaheim to san diego. I live pretty close to anaheim, and always drive out to San Diego whenever I need to head out that way, it's probably going to be what you need to do. Though it's also going to be pricey. It's probably because of the toll roads that go down that way because it's heavily trafficked.
sinclair Posted February 12, 2018 No wonder traffic is messed up everywhere, because we can't have a decent public transportation system like Europe and Japan. Sigh. Also thanks for the heads up about toll roads. They don't have them in my state, so I don't even think about them. Now I know I've got to watch out for those as well. acnon Posted February 12, 2018 Is there anything doll related to go see. Not sure I'll have time for any kind of meetups, unless they are evening maybe. There is a local meetup in Irvine (just south of Anaheim) on the 25th. Not sure if you'll be out here then. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16863 40 daughters, mistresses and wives & counting.... sinclair Posted February 13, 2018 Sadly no, or I'd love to come. And Volks USA doesn't have a store front anymore, correct?
acnon Posted February 13, 2018 Sadly no, or I'd love to come. And Volks USA doesn't have a store front anymore, correct? Not really. But myself and several people do "local pickup" of online orders from their office. There's a display cabinet, and a table to sit at. Basically a "will call" desk at the front of the office. It's always fun to chit-chat with the staff and president if he's available! 40 daughters, mistresses and wives & counting....

SakuraSylph Posted February 15, 2018 Nah, nothing specifically doll-related in Anaheim this time of year that I know of, not being Dolpa LA (Sept) or AX (July) time. Except possibly meets with local residents if they set one up. The VolksUSA store in Torrance isn't open to the public anymore except as a will-call pickup option for orders made on their website. I guess you could place a small order for pickup if you wanted to meet any of the employees or possibly president Shigeta in person. The best way to get from LA to San Diego is to rent a car, since there isn't a public transit option available. There are car rentals in downtown Anaheim near Disney if you won't have a car with you from the airport. Advance reservations recommended though. Assuming they still do it, the backstage pass program at the San Diego Zoo is pricy but well worth doing once if you like critters. SakuraSylph
BeyondTime Posted February 15, 2018 The best way to get from LA to San Diego is to rent a car, since there isn't a public transit option available. I believe LA to San Diego you can do a bus through Amtrak, but you'd have to go on their schedule and I think it runs really late at night. Basically it's the second leg of a train journey from Northern California to San Diego, and the train lands you in LA at 9 PM. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
ingeneu Posted February 16, 2018 As someone who lives in SD, I would suggest taking the Greyhound bus. Unfortunately, not any doll related things down here, but if you'd like to meet up would be cool! (=
