Expressive head sculpts

From time to time I would see dolls with really expressive head sculpts, like mouths open and everything. Where do these come from? I looked at the Volks website and its not coming from them I don't think? I wouldn't mind getting one of those for my doll.

Some face up artists modify the head sculpts. Like they'll sand it down/sculpt a new mouth, nose, eye-shape, etc

That's not gonna be easy to come by...

Some of the members here commission them along with face ups. You’d find their threads down in ‘Painting and Customization’. The only problem is waiting for open slots.

Also it depends on exactly what you want. The faces with truly open mouths, like the custom Ranko in this thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12393 or Nozomi in this one viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16344 require modifications to the head, which not all faceup artists do. The ones with just a hint of teeth showing often are not modded at all; it's just the way the face is painted and many more artists do this.

Volks does have 2-3 open-mouthed girls. There is a character who I don't remember (I believe she's in im@s girl though?) and there's 08, from the top of my head.

Volks Shino has a slightly open mouth too; maybe there's others. And DDH-08 should be easier to get soon.

SQ also have a couple open mouthed sculpts. I have a "Moe". SQ heads are perfect for MDD bodies.

They won't come cheap, but Alan Kan does amazing work.

He did that open-mouth Ranko I linked above I believe. Really nice work.

I was looking through Etsy and found someone who does customs with modification. The price for a modded Head plus faceup was $200 (more extensive modding though would be more).
