Help IDing a sculpt

I've tried asking the owner but I didn't get any response. Does anyone know which sculpt this girl is?

Looking at that and other pics on that flickr account, I think Makoto Kikuchi. But I'm kinda lousy at identifying face sculpts.

She's a repainted Chihaya. You can tell because she's in that user's Chihaya folder!

 

Haha, wrong again! Oh well, I was at least almost certain she was an iM@S girl.

That's unknowdata's custom Chihaya Yumi-chan. They also have a second Chihaya named Fumika I believe? They're beautiful customs.

It appears so as I saw Fumika and thought it was the same doll at first. Love Chihaya's sculpt along with Takane but like most Idolmaster DDs she's too expensive now.

As it happens Chihaya and Makoto do look a bit similar at first glance. If you swap their wigs you have to look closely at them to really tell. Once you know them well the differences are clearer. I highly recommend both of them. Makoto is a lot of fun because she really looks great in boyish clothing.

With a used Chihaya there is a strong possibility of stains on her face from the powder they put in her wig for highlights. I would ask for clarification on any issues with the doll if you get one that isn't NIB.

 

If you buy her full set wash the wig thoroughly before putting in on her. Basically keep soaking it in warm water and mild laundry soap until the water no longer turns blue, and then a bit more for good measure. I thought I had mine completely clean, and she wore it for years, but then I found a small stain on her face where her bangs we touching it, so you can't over do this imo.

 

If you touch her wig before it's cleaned be sure to wash your hands before touching the doll. The powder the wig leaves on your fingers will leave instant stains.

 

Foo has some marvelous pictures of his Chihaya in a variety of wigs and outfits. She's a super pretty DD.

 

Sorry probably way more info than you wanted, but I spent two weeks cleaning stains out of my Chihaya's head when I first got her so I always warn people about that. I got super lucky that none of them were on her face-up. I am pretty enthusiastic about her too.

Appreciate the info. I've read enough about that wig recently that if I do ever get her I'll just find another wig for her. I don't think a similar dark blue wig will be that hard to find, and whatever special it might be missing in comparison will be worth it to not have to worry about it.

Wow, so that's really a Chihaya?!? What a difference a faceup can make! I would've never guessed.

I did see the folder name 'Chihaya' but I had my doubts 'cause Unknowndata's girl's eyes looked rounder compared to other Chihaya's. It might just be the eyes they're using that gives this impression.

It's the eyes they used; I don't know if theyr'e a larger size but they're a rounder type so wider irises.

 

Moreover, the faceup has the eyeliner a more consistent width making it thicker towards the center of the face, compared to Volks' default faceup on her which has it narrower towards the center, giving her eyes that slightly angled appearance. I always think Chihaya looks a lot like Miki Hoshii, but this custom faceup completely removes that aspect of her.

Makoto, Chihaya, and Miki all have nearly identical mouths, noses, and chins. The differences are in their eyes, and the cheekbones which affects the overall shape of their faces.

 

Makoto's eyeliner is angular and Chihaya's is rounded, and that makes the outer corners of their eyes look different even though the sculpted shape is very similar, but the inner corner of their eyes has a different shape. Miki's eyes also have a different sculpt shape, but her eyeliner is still really what makes her eyes stand out as different.

 

Makoto and Chihaya have a very similar eye color which helps to make them look the same.

 

Overall I think Makoto and Chihaya look more like each other than Miki and Chihaya, but with all three it's really the small details that make them different and not large ones. If you take their wigs off the differences in the shape of the head are more pronounced.

 

The Volks product photos don't really do any of them justice.

For that you could get one with a stained faceup. Would no doubt be less expensive and a way to rescue such a doll.

 

I wonder who the faceup artist on unknowdata's doll is? If I was guessing I'd think White Dolly Story or KK Workshop, though there are other artists that do styles like that of course.

 

While the style isn't that similar after looking again, somehow that Chihaya reminds me of this Kaede which I believe is a Neris sculpt: Except for the fake eyelashes which just aren't my thing that doll looks great and I hope Volks Kaede looks as good.
