baldylox Posted March 10, 2018 So which girl did she order while you weren't looking? I don't think the damage is over yet. Watching this unfold is quite fun! It's so nice to see others girls demolishing their wallets instead of it happening to me. Billy 1 I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. sinclair Posted March 10, 2018 I feel for you. Luckily my girls haven't bought any sisters yet, but Yaya did buy some clothes. I've dragged my heels on getting my taxes done in case any of them saw and decided to spend the money for me.
Gabriel Posted March 10, 2018 Watching this unfold is quite fun! It's so nice to see others girls demolishing their wallets instead of it happening to me. (I was quite flattered by this comment for some reason, so these are for you. I hope you like it.) Ranka: Whew! This is hard work. Bob the Invid: Now what, big lady? Ranka: Now Bob, we have to hide the suspended animation capsule for a week or so. We just have to find someplace that no one will look, and do it fast so no one finds out. Bob: But where? Ranka: I've got it! We'll hide it behind the Warhammer 40K RPG books! No one ever looks at those! Bob: OK. You the smart lady. Ranka: Right! Now help me move this stuff. Ranka: Now, help me move it in here. Ranka: Push! We have to get it as far to the back as we can. Ranka: There! We got Sheryl back there and all the books back in place. Bob: We hid it good! Ranka: Yes we did, Bob. Ranka: Now let's get out of here before Gabriel sees us, or, worse yet, Amber catches me! Bob: OK.
BeyondTime Posted March 11, 2018 Gods, those Warhammer books probably cost more than the doll they are hiding. XD The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
sinclair Posted March 11, 2018 That's right, no one will ever notice that the books that used to sit back from the edge now stick out over the edge... Well, that actually might work as they all changed together at once... [Runs off to inspect his plethora of book cases for anything that might be hidden behind the books.]

I love seeing stories like this, they're so much fun and it's cool to see how others girls act when they do things they know they shouldn't. Ranka hiding the box behind the books was very smart..... not many people would notice that. Thank you for the photos, I know I'm not the only one who enjoyed seeing them and will enjoy seeing more! cfx Posted March 12, 2018 Ranka perhaps saw your post in the "plans for 2018" thread and when she saw there were no plans for new dolls this year, decided that just wouldn't do and took matters into her own hands. Bob the Invid looks like one of those old Matchbox(?) Robotech toys? I had that and some of the rest back then which I think I got at Kay-Bee on clearance. I don't remember what happened to them though.

I don't remember what happened to them though. I think you're right about what inspired Ranka's diabolical attack on my finances! As for Bob, you're essentially correct. He's an Invid Scout from the Exo-Squad Robotech releases in the mid-90s, but those toys just recycled the same molds from the mid-80s Matchbox stuff.

toughstermcg Posted March 13, 2018 Freya!!! She's cute as a button. I keep almost talking myself into getting her. Maybe one day! Her defaults look way better here than in Volks' promos, but I'd wanna see her in lots of fluffy casual stuff as well.
BeyondTime Posted March 13, 2018 Yeah agreed, Freyja looks way better in this photo than in the Volks product photos. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Gabriel Posted March 14, 2018 I guess I'm not mad at Ranka for inviting her friends over and making me pay for their airfare. I mean, just look at her! It's hard to stay mad at her. Anyway, the Mandarake order she conned me into placing arrived today. It seems "package severely damaged" translates into "someone lightly and gently touched the package once, otherwise mint." I haven't opened anything yet, but everything looks great on a superficial inspection. Someone needs to screenshot the first post in this thread and Gabriel's most recent post in this thread to display them in the same image, as a cautionary tale of the dangers of this forum. Indeed. Should I change my title to "Cautionary Tale"?

baldylox Posted March 15, 2018 Ten days from start to finish. That's pretty impressive for something that wasn't supposed to occur...... Planned? Possibly. A cry for help? Not really, more of a "Look what I'm doing but can't stop if I tried so help me feel better about it." A wonderfully awesome deal to make his Ranka happy as can be? Oh definitely. A great way to get more camera time? Yup. So this looks like it was a win win situation from the beginning. Way to go you guys! BeyondTime Posted April 18, 2018 Anyway, the Mandarake order she conned me into placing arrived today. It seems "package severely damaged" translates into "someone lightly and gently touched the package once, otherwise mint." I haven't opened anything yet, but everything looks great on a superficial inspection. I think just about every package I have gotten from them listed package severely damaged, and in reality there was minimal damage if there was any at all. They do rely on machine translation iirc, so something may not be coming through accurately. I recently picked up two rescues in need of repair from them, and I have to say their photos of damage are prettt solid. I could have gotten my Haruka from Jungle for a bit less, but all they said upfront was B rated with no photos. With Mandarake I knew exactly what was needed to repair her, before she got here. The difference after fees might have been 1000 - 2000 yen savings with Jungle. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I think just about every package I have gotten from them listed package severely damaged, and in reality there was minimal damage if there was any at all. They do rely on machine translation iirc, so something may not be coming through accurately. I think it's just everything is written with a collector mindset and/or erring on the side of caution so customers aren't unhappy and complaining. I've been in the figure hobby longer than this one, and when I started that bought a number of older figures from both them and Amiami; I only bought unopened items, but on Amiami those are invariably rated A/B, the second rating, the B, meaning the box is damaged; yet they never look any different than new items. In all the time I've looked at their preowned section I've only ever once seen a figure they actually rated A/A. I've also bought a "new item with box damage" from them once at a discount, and while there was a little bit of visible damage on that, I also got new figures from them with more damage, whether there originally or occurring in the shipping to me. Mandarake is great because they do show photos of damage, but I wish their photos were higher quality. Sometimes on the doll photos I find it really hard to see staining and also tell the difference from that and just shadows in the pictures. I've bought shoes a couple of times from Jungle and I like their service and packaging. I still don't like their policy of a 5% fee added to every order. It makes it mentally harder to compare the prices. Why not just raise the prices by that 5% since it appplies in every case anyway? I suspect it's so they can use the same pricing on their English and Japanese sites, and am guessing that fee doesn't apply to domestic orders. If so that's still a poor excuse as Mandarake can manage to have the appropriate different pricing on their two sites (since we don't pay the consumption tax).
