Volks News 78

They announced on FB they are already sold out.

It's not 10 am yet, but the new issue is up for sale on the Volks USA webstore.

 

Ordered mine an hour ago.

 

I ordered mine at 6:23am this morning after a friend let me know they were active.

 

How odd that they said it wouldn't be available until 1pm today and yet they were active before 6am East Coast time..... good job guys!

I've noticed that VolksUSA often has items set to release at midnight pacific time on the date in question, regardless of any other time listed.

Yeah they did that with the special hand pre-order too.

Thankfully the only thing from the new batch out outfits I want is the Easter-type one for my SD16 girl. I say thankfully because I just got a new head from YHJ! and she's going to need a body ASAP

Seeing things better now than the scans:

 

• I want that top hat on p.53, and yeah it's annoying I have to get rabbit ears that I don't want with it.
• Still annoyed they show me those lovely sandals on p.61 that aren't part of this release. I can't even find those anywhere to know their part number. SB-SD16G-024 look identical except they have flowers on them: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/176427 unless those come off?
• Might get the white nurse outfit from p.70; have wanted one of those and this is less expensive than the old ones on Mandarake. I think I liked the black sweater with those better, but this one would be less likely to stain.

I don't see anything else that appeals to me. The sofa is nice but not 20,000 yen nice.

I find this totally awesome and so very Japanese! That's great that they know you and respond to you like that. I miss Japan....

MDDs are almost exact same size as MSD, so yeah, the purposes will work! I saw them and LOVE them but that price tag, not so much...

Thanks for posting it. Luka's got some shiny lips there. She's pretty, but her expression is a lot different from the source illustration, so that's an interesting artistic choice. SDGr girls are looking very sad-pretty. Ranka's aftermarket will probably drop even more after this, which is good for me but not all that exciting in terms of what could have happened instead. The newer faceup for DDH-14 shown is a real cutie and Liliru looks cuter every time I see her in a new wig. The couch is rad but expensive. Is that a gashapon Cappuccino??? I love it.

I'm in the same boat...all of them are amazing!

As the designated bearer of bad news, the clutch bags and doll house set things (which arent actually new) are only available at the two SD specialty stores (Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto and Tenshi no Mado in Harajuku). The bags are some special designer collab item (hence the price....) so there are probably only a small number produced. Just like with DDs, SDs also have limited store-only items.

He’s the main prize in the charity gacha at Dolpa. Usually the main prizes are special eyes (like the heart eyes from a while back). Other items in the gacha are underwear and shirts with silly text like ‘ore no yome’ (my wife) and ‘dolpa gentei’ (dolpa limited). There are quite a few games of chance like this at Dolpa where all the proceeds go to charity. I usually do the lottery thing where you turn the crank and the coloured balls come out to try and win a mini copy of Volks News (the main prizes in that are usually actually limited wigs from past SD releases, but the 1/3 volks newses are so much better to me...usually they only come with the Xpass (early entry) set I think but those sold out in 5 minutes )

I have only ever tried the charity gacha twice myself at 2016 December Dolpa (got the stripey undies perfect for Miku on the first try, heart eyes on the second try)

That’s not really anything new, right? The online lottery specifics always seem to take a while to come out. They will probably have more info after the first release but she’s just going to be the same as Sailor Moon.

 

Mini rant time but I personally don’t like that they combined the new dolls with Sumika stuff at Dolpa instead of giving them a separate dedicated area at a certain time like they apparently used to, not just because it creates confusion about how online sales work but because it means if you want the dolls you have to get in the Sumika shop line from the event opening. It means you miss out on seeing the dealer stuff first (unless you were lucky enough to get an Xpass set in the 5 minutes it took for them to sell out/crash the server). It also means you have no chance of actually getting a good look at the display Luka before deciding to try your luck 8/ (whereas at past events you could get a good look at the display ones before the lottery sale started) I am highly considering trying for her at Dolpa now but I really want to actually see her first so it seems like a huge oversight (according to the Dolpa map, her display model is...on the opposite side of the venue to the Sumika store...??? ). I am really hoping they will have one in the Akiba store I can see before the day because I want to know if she’s actually worth missing out on dealer stuff (the stuff that will quickly sell out I mean) for 8’) (Not to mention if I dont manage to get her I will have missed dealer stuff for nothing D:)

I don't know, because I've only been paying attention to this hobby for <6 months so I was surprised the info isn't available on how online sales are to be handled. But checking the Sailor Moon page I see it's the same. Since I wasn't interested in her I didn't follow that at the time.

I'm not sure if you got to experience the old system, but it wasn't all-that really. The old 3-line system where you had to pick from Sumika, Dolls, or Dealers was not necessarily better. Drawing a poor number of 600 or more for the Dolls line did allow you to immediately cut losses and try for Sumika or Dealers instead, but if you did that, then you'd be way back in the Dealers line so nothing was different in terms of missing out on popular dealer items. It was pretty much always "go straight for Dealers" if that's what's most important to you.

 

Drawing 400 or less was great since it meant you were almost guaranteed to get the doll(s) you want. That only happened to me one time out of all the Dolpas I went to, so it was not so easy. The worst was getting an ambiguous number in the 400-600 range, where if you stayed to try your luck in the dolls area, the doll you wanted might or might not still be in stock by the time your number was called. If it was sold out, then you missed out on dolls, the best dealer items, and the best sumika items since all the other things had been going on for an hour or so by the time the doll line got that far. Collapsing it down to two lines at least means it's unlikely you'll miss out on everything now.

I didnt get to experience the old system so I didnt realize that they had the doll sales that early. The only times I've entered for a doll at Dolpa (or gotten someone else to do so for me) was Rin's preorder in summer 2016, and Renee's lottery in early summer 2017. Both of those didnt start until 12 or so if I'm remembering correctly, so I wondered if the old style also started around 12 and the new early time was just a result of combining it with sumika. Based on what you've described, this is actually a much better method than that.

 

My main gripe atm is that I am very tempted to enter for Luka, but I want to actually SEE her first. Usually they've had display ones in Doll Point, but they've yet to say anything about this... (they already have the SDs on display in Harajuku). I'm really hoping they put one in Doll Point some time this week so I can see her the day before.

I know I can just get her at the after event at the fu kuoka store or even enter the lottery online, but I am incredibly sentimental and thought it'd be nice to get a doll at what is likely my final dolpa (or at least, the experience of trying to get one) I still havent had time to look at the dealers yet so I guess i'll decide based on whether theres anything I REALLY dont want to miss out on (assuming its not something that will disappear in the first half hour to xpass holders, anyway)
