It also means you have no chance of actually getting a good look at the display Luka before deciding to try your luck 8/ (whereas at past events you could get a good look at the display ones before the lottery sale started) I am highly considering trying for her at Dolpa now but I really want to actually see her first so it seems like a huge oversight (according to the Dolpa map, her display model is...on the opposite side of the venue to the Sumika store...??? ). I am really hoping they will have one in the Akiba store I can see before the day because I want to know if she’s actually worth missing out on dealer stuff (the stuff that will quickly sell out I mean) for 8’) (Not to mention if I dont manage to get her I will have missed dealer stuff for nothing D:)

I was looking for pictures of Luka on that blog or twitter as before they've had display pictures of dolls there that show them better than the official pics. I'm not sure when those have gone up though and I guess they are pics of the store displays. Maybe it was different due to them being preorder but I remember them having a lot of pictures of Jeanne and Saber.

I love that outfit, too bad on the colors though. I'm not really into the sweet candy color scheme. I hope they make it in other colors later.

I do like the colors, which surprised me since I don't generally care much for the pastel pinks and blues so common in doll clothing. Which is unfortunate for me since those are the things that I wouldn't have to worry about staining.

 

I'd probably get this one if it was a normal release that was available to me.

That outfit is so cute! And even the name is cute: "Sweet Frill ♡ LIVE!" I'd also try to get it if it were available. Apparently, it's a OOAK outfit for their Treasure Auction event. Hopefully Volks will make some more outfits like this in the future (and make them regular release)!

I love that outfit, too bad on the colors though. I'm not really into the sweet candy color scheme. I hope they make it in other colors later.

I’m the opposite, all the pastels for my Miku and Rin (and Luka eventually I suppose)

I like these idolish outfits and it would be nice if Volks eventually made some more original (as in not based on anything) idolish outfits but I guess there’s not much reason to when they can just keep releasing Idolm@ster ones.

It’s a one-off for auction like RiverR said so it won’t be made again. They do one for every Dolpa but I admittedly don’t tend to pay attention because there’s no remote chance of the end price being within my budget. People (especially otaku) get pretty extreme when it comes to having the chance to own a thing that no one else can ever own. (See also: the one-off Odette SD from a previous Dolpa that went for more than my annual income. And then the same guy also got one of the recent Disney one-off collabs. Must be loaded beyond belief o_o)

Yeah.. it used to be that all three lines at Dolpa officially started at 10am, but the period between 8-10am was available for setup. During that two hour window, that's when the Limited Items line would let you draw your numbered ticket, and also when the Sumika line would give out its tickets and draw the head of line. So, you could go draw your ticket for the dolls anytime after 8, and if you liked it, hang out in the holding area until sales started at 10, or if you didn't like it, go over to Sumika or Dealers lines and wait there instead.

 

By combining dolls and Sumika, now you don't have to choose whether you want the outfits or the dolls more, and can try for both. It's interesting to hear how things have changed in the last few years.

I think you just answered your own question - do try for Luka. (or that tempting SD Lucia!) Since you want the experience of trying for a doll at your last Dolpa in Japan, you should take the opportunity without question. Nothing the dealers have could replace that chance if you skipped it, and even if you don't like Luka later you can always rehome her so that's not an issue.

 

I wonder how many they actually prepare? If its still around the 400 mark or if they increased the amount with the method change...

The number prepared was less than 500, but it's really not clear how many it actually was. Each person in line could buy as many or as few of the new dolls (@1 copy each) as they wanted when their turn came up, and although some people would, not everyone was going to buy every doll. So if a doll sold out around the 500 mark, that wasn't really 500 dolls since some lower numbers never got drawn and some people chose not to buy the one you were after.. So, perhaps 150 at Dolpa with the rest going to stores and online? Who knows; that's just an educated guess and nothing more.

Yeah, seize the moment and shape it with your own will it seems like a good plan. In addition you will have that special connection with whichever girl you go for.

@sakurasylph Trust me, if I was a wealthier person I’d be getting that Lucia in a heartbeat - there’s something enthralling about her and I’ve never really felt that way about an SD... but that would mean forfeiting both Luka and 9S (assuming he’s coming out this year as lottery), and in the end I like DDs more. But I really can’t wait to see owner pics of her...

 

Luckily for me even if I don’t win Luka I get another chance at the Fu kuoka store’s After Event and that would also be a nice sentimental thing - the staff there have taken good care of me and I had originally been planning to get a full choice SDM as a memento until my laptop broke (I may still do it if I get to stay longer after all but that’s up in the air).

Looking over that now there may be nothing for me this round. I wanted that top hat but one of the pictures shows it on an SD and it looks huge, so it will probably really be that way on a DD (aren't SD heads larger?). I guess it's made that way because of the rabbit ears, which I didn't realize attach to it? I wasn't going to use those at all.

 

Also wanted a nurse outfit but wanted white but the non-L-bust version, so I need to look for the older release on Mandarake instead.

 

That's ok though since I want to get Sheryl, hoping I can manage that.

 

The one must-have for me is the SD16 Spring Magic Girl set.

It depends on the SD head - some aren't that different to DDs and then some like Nono are huge. I saw the hat in person on display at Dolpa and thought it'd be a good size for the doll I wanted it for...but I dont want the bunny ears, and also I spent a fortune at Dolpa so dont really want to buy things for the sake of buying them. (given that the doll in question has a Len head, thats kinda big anyway though) I am hoping someone who bought it at Dolpa will put it on a DD so I can see how it actually looks, though.

If you find a pic of the hat on a DD please link it here because I'd certainly like to see that. As it looks too large to me on that SD I'm probably going to feel the same but I'd like to see, especially a picture without those ears adding to the confusion.

Crud. I don't even want to deal with that mess especially if the website is sluggish due to the number of people trying to order things. I guess I'll just wait a bit and if Sheryl's still available order then. I really have no clue how this will go. She's barely more expensive aftermarket and Ranka is cheaper that way, so these don't seem like they'd sell out that quickly, but that also depends obviously on how many Volks has available and how they judged the demand.

 

I'm happy they're being rereleased, but it still feels like a low-effort way to celebrate the Macross anniversary since they aren't even releasing new outfits.

I noted this in the Luka thread already, but its a special preorder limited to VS/VIP members alongside the existing release she was already getting. Again, while that doesnt affect most people on this forum it does mean that a lot of her are going to be produced so she probably wont end up too pricey on the aftermarket, just like the other Vocaloids haven't.

 

EDIT: A brief run-down.

If you are VS/VIP member you can order her on the 27th or 28th (and only then) from any of the physical Sumika stores or the online store and receive her in November. Otherwise you can enter the lottery on the 27th or 28th and the dolls start shipping to winner's June 9th.

So the different Lukas are, in order of release:

*The ones from Dolpa

*The ones that will be in a limited quantity in each phsyical Sumika store for the After Event.

*The web lottery ones

*The VS/VIP only preorder ones

So the clickwar for the SD and DD clothing is on the 26th with a 90 minute time lag between the two, and Luka's outfit, Sheryl, Ranka, and their outfits are togeteher on the 27th. That helps some at least; I had assumed everything started at the same day and time.

I never can figure out when these events actually start due to the date/time difference. By the time I looked the top hat was sold out, and was one of the few items that was.

You can do a google search to find a global time clock or if you have an iphone just add Tokyo to your clock app.

11 AM Sunday in Tokyo should be 7 PM Pacific Time tonight, or 8 PM mountain, 9 PM Central, 10 PM Eastern. That should cover Luka's outfit, and the Macros dolls.

 

Luka's lottery starts an hour earlier.

Pretty sure my math is good, but might want to start checking worldtime a few hours ahead of the event start just in case I had a blond moment.

The Macross Dolls are still available, and aren't even listed as low stock yet.

I was just in Volks and apparently the Lukas all disappeared in the blink of an eye but the Macross girls were still there. The SDs were gone too.

The only outfits that have sold out surprisingly (to me) were the two pink flare skirt sets (the Pink Label items). I didn’t really get a good look at the stuff while I was at Dolpa but seeing that top hat in person.. it really is huge. I had been in the fence about getting it but it just looks slightly odd to me. I think it’d work for a specific look, just not the one I’m after.

 

The birthday rings all disappeared the day before and I’m still kinda sad coz I was really looking forward to getting one...I thought they were going to have them until the 3rd cos that’s what the ticket implied but apparently they went within an hour yesterday. It was also the entire reason I went in today...but at least I got a nice dealers outfit I’d been eyeing.

That hat lists all the way up to SD17, so I bet that's what it's sized for.

It looked giant on the SD model regardless. It seems to be more a wacky mad hatter look than a ‘proper’ top hat. Of course some people are after that look though.
