Hellooooo~!

Howdy! I'm Marissa and I've been enamored by Dollfie Dreams for about a decade. Six years ago in my freshman year of college my then-roommate and I encouraged each other to start getting into the BJD hobby. I've collected and customized BJDs since then, but never bought myself a DD because she was a mean and judgy person and looked down on anime style things (we were in art school, and I actually realized that she had a rotten attitude and just wasn't a good person a few years later).

 

I took a two year doll hiatus and coming back, the first thing I bought myself was a DDH01 to modify and paint. When I'm able to post photos I'd love to show her to you all! I am very happy to be back doing something I love.

I just don’t understand the snooty judgemental attitude so many art students (and teachers!) have toward anime. That kinda thing seems to be dying down - especially because so many of the most accomplished animation directors and artists at the moment are very obviously influenced by it (Steven Universe, for example)

Ah thank you! She’s one of my resin dolls. I agree that the anti-anime elitism makes no sense, especially because I was an illustration major! And thank you again, now that I’m pursuing DD’s I’m having a lot if fun!

Ah, that's unfortuante :[ I know that feeling to a degree. When I first looked at BJDs years ago, I was enamored by Volks dolls, but my (at the time friends) said they were ugly. It discouraged me from getting into them. Even then, my ex-roommate called my Pullips creepy (I know some people don't like dolls.) I'm glad that you're out of that situation and being true to yourself! Anime/resin/etc. It doesn't matter. They're great forms of self-expression, in my opinion! I love seeing peoples' customization, and I hope your DD01 project goes well!

Aw man I'm sorry you went through that too. As long as you're collecting the dolls you like it shouldn't matter!
