Clothing on a budget

Recommended Posts

Starwaia

I've been trying to find clothes for Melody on a budget, and I swear, anything that mentions Smartdoll specifically has an extra $50 added to the price or something.

Anyone know how to find cute clothes for my Mels without breaking into my savings? Nearly every spare penny I save is going to Kizuna due to the impending discontinuation, but my Melody's been stuck in her underclothes for months and needs attention too. While I admire the craftsmanship of a lot of Smartdoll clothing, whether on the official site or elsewhere, I really need to find something like a basic t-shirt for less than $50! I know you get what you pay for but right now I mainly want to be able take my Mels outside for photos without getting scandalized looks from the neighbors(not that I've tried it!! o:< ).

If anyone can point me to some good Etsy or other stores that sell stuff that would fit her without being too pricey, that would be awesome! I've heard that TaoBao is a good place to look but I hardly know anything about it. If it really is cheaper to make stuff, I can try that too. To be honest right now I'm at a loss, I feel like a newbie again. I'm sorry if this looks like complaining or whining or whatever. If nothing else I can make Mels a robe out of one of my older shirts, but I figure it's worth looking for other tips.

Currently watching BNHA, 1-2 episodes behind on the anime rn and absolutely obsessed! (being in a fandom late has made dodging spoilers an issue tho :()

More into Nendoroids and my resin BJDs rn- including some BNHA character shells hehehe :)- my Smartdolls are boxed up at the moment but I'm still happy to talk dolls and doll plans!

A lot of DD stuff fits Smart Dolls. Just mind the breast size.

Ok! I'll be sure to look at some then. For some reason I was under the impression that their proportions were very different but I had only assumed rather than ask someone or look at the measurements which I should have. That begs the question about DD/SMD hybrids... but anyway I'll look into DD clothes, thanks!

Also I've been kinda a huge fan of your comics for years and I really need to catch up on them gosh darn it

Two Etsy stores come to mind (but I guess they are not the cheapest...):

https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/tobiasmalfoy

https://www.etsy.com/se-en/shop/AmyJuneDesigns

http://rrabit.com/rrabitstore/rrabitshop/ is a nice shop! You won't find plain t-shirts, but casual, cute stuff, for good prices!

But if you want to make your own:

And yeah, Dollfie Dream stuff usually fits. I would aim for Dollfie Dream Dynamite sized outfits if you are looking for bottom parts (skirts, pants and so on).

Some places also have their SD sized clothes modeled on Smart Dolls, along with Dollfie Dreams, so it comes down to the good ol' look-around.

Taobao is by far the cheapest option for doll clothing. It takes a little more effort, but use an agent (I recommend TaobaoTrends or SpreeNow) and you'll be fine.

I don't have a Smart Doll, but a lot of the Alice Collections stuff fits the DD body just fine, might be worth a shot. It's on the cheaper end, ok quality, but it takes forever to ship just as a heads up.

Why DDdy? That'd be huge. I find regular DD stuff fits my SmD just fine (and SmD fits DD just fine, equally).

Hi! I have a Smartdoll Harmony and I get her clothes from 3 different shops. The first two are from Etsy:

1. https://www.etsy.com/shop/ttyacom (this shop has clothes that are half the price of the Culture Japan website. The clothes themselves are of great quality. My girl has a Large bust, so I am not able to find shirts that would fit her. But the shirts can fit XS, S & M sized bust) & 2. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Dolline (this shop has DD sized clothing. The shirts can fit Smartdolls but the shorts I’m not sure. The clothing is of great quality! And the prices are reasonable). And the last shop is called: Doll Delights. Here’s the http: http://www.dolldelights.com. The prices are reasonable and the clothing is of great quality. They also have clothes that fit all bust sizes for Smartdoll. I have brought jeans, shorts and lingerie from there. And the shop owner is very friendly and nice! Hope this helps! ^_^

And I find that DD sized bottoms tend to be too small for the Smartdoll hips. While DDdy sized bottoms have been a perfect fit.

So thus, I consider it safer to aim for DDdy sized bottom items.

If you have some extra fabric lying around like an old shirt you don't wear, you can easily turn that into a shirt for your doll. If you have a fabric store near you, some of them sell fabric quarters for around $1. Often times when I get a new doll, I just sew up a quick outfit for them until I find the right outfit online.

Since you're trying to save up money, you could look up YouTube tutorials on how to make simple dresses and such. I find skirts and sleeveless dresses the easiest to make since I sew everything by hand.
