Smart doll Head on a DD body?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious if anyone modded a Smart doll onto a Dollfie Dream body at all? I've seen it the other way but can't seem to find pictures of this particular way?

Sorry to go OT, but have you maybe a link of how to put a DD head on a Smart Doll body? I would love to do that.

The neck hole of a smartdoll is smaller than a DDs. This means if you put a DD head on a smartdoll body, it wiggles and might come off unless you thicken the neck piece - methods include using some tubing or even just circling it a few times with tape. This also means that the DD neck piece is possibly too big to fit in a smartdoll head. DD necks are pretty big - they can look weird when the head isn’t pushed all the way down (smartdoll ones are kinda weird and thin) so I personally think a smartdoll head, which presumably can’t be pushed all the way down, would not look good. (although if anyone can prove me wrong on this I’d like to see it)

I think I’ve seen Chitose on an MDD body, but those necks are smaller.

I guess my main question would be why...? If you like the DD body, why not just get a DD? There’s a lot more choice in heads as well. I’m not trying to be rude I’m just curious, especially because as far as I know you can’t even buy smartdoll heads on their own (unless you’ve ended up with one somehow)

I really have my eye on a girl that he'll be having come out soon. I think she's going to replace the defualt Kizuna. Anyways I just. I notices that DD have well better posing since they seem a bit more able that Smart doll but I kinda prefer the look of Smart doll faces. DD's? Er...not too much.

I've asked a friend who owns both doll types and will post if I get further useful information.

You can see the potential issues from the pictures in the first post here: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=10638

You'll likely need to enlarge the hole in the head since the mounting pin is larger on DD. The harder issue is the neck overall is larger so the well in the head probably doesn't fit over it like it should. It may be possible to cut a narrow v in the back of the neck part to make that work?

If the only reason you want a different body is the greater poseability, I believe Danny has stated that the injection-molded Cortex Smart Doll body will have more of a posing range than the current vinyl body, but until that is actually released no one will know. Might be an option though.

Ok I have a couple of pictures from my friend now:

image.php?album_id=416&image_id=1568

So in the first pic you can see that the head doesn't really go down over the neck, but with the way the top of the neck tapers it doesn't look bad. The other thing to be aware of is due to that the neck will appear longer which may or may not be an issue.

Honestly, that does not look that bad. . . okay even. I am sure a lot of people know which body I prefer ( ), but the neck does not look 'weird' when looking at her from the front, and even from the side seems passable. I am sure with a shoulder-length or longer wig any 'visual' issues a person may have would be reduced.

I wonder if the neck joint has the same range of motion?

. . . . . . . .

Actually, I have both DDs and Smart Dolls, I can run my tests myself.

Since the head barely sits on the vinyl of the neck, there is likely very limited range of motion without having a gap.

Since you have both you can sort of check. You can't actually put the Smart Doll head on the DD neck pin without modifying the hole though I don't think. In those pics I believe the head is just sitting on an empty bust, no frame.

Omg thank you for the photos ^u^ I actually really like how it looks and I'm willing to at least sacrifice some head movement. Thanks again ^u^

You are correct cfx. That hole for the Smart Doll head would have to be carved out a bit to fit the DD pin. The pin size difference was very obvious when I put Miku's head on the Smart Doll body. The pin was too narrow which caused a wobble if you moved the doll.

I can no longer find the reference to this on any of Danny's webpages, but when he briefly sold Smart Doll bodies separately about two years ago, he included a short piece of 4mm OD flexible plastic tubing that fit over the neck peg to make it sized appropriately for a DD head to fit. Initially it was actually stated that was what it was for, but I guess that caused some kind of friction with Volks because by the time he released the bodies there was some cryptic explanation for what the tubing was for instead and no mention of DDs. I think this info was on twitter and I had a saved link but I guess twitter doesn't keep posts that old.

Anyway, it was tubing like this: https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Clear-Meters-0-75mm-Thickness/dp/B00EZ5BYI8/ which here is available typically at hardware stores and such; perhaps it is the same in Italy.

Alternately shrink tubing should work though it would be trial and error to get the correct resulting size.

The well for the neck in the DD heads should fit over the Smart Doll body's neck without any issue with the exception of DDH-01 (and possibly DDH-10?).

Thank you for the explanation! I am in love with how you can pose the Smart DOll shoulders, so I will try one of the metods above to transform it into DD body

Since I have a spare DD neck piece, I might actually try to mix them, whenever I have some free time to play the surgeon

Indeed this is. I often find myself using a shrink tube, wrap masking tape over it, and then use another shrink tube to get the correct diameter for the neck peg. (I'll then remove the second shrink tube layer because I'll discover the peg is now too thick.)

The well for the neck in the DD heads should fit over the Smart Doll body's neck without any issue with the exception of DDH-01 (and possibly DDH-10?).

Out of curiosity, I just tested the DDH-10 and it will fit onto a Smart Doll's neck without any issue. Fit isn't the problem. Her neck will look *very* long with this combination. (If she's wearing the right kind of clothing, this isn't an issue.)

I would paste or link a photo but my post count isn't high enough yet.

Don't all Smartdolls come with that plastic tubing still?

I checked my Smart Doll from 2017 and the plastic tube is on the base of the neck pin just as your link shows. I assume that hasn't changed.

Could you send the pictures again? I am curious of this too and the pictures seem corrupt... It would be a great relief to my research on that topic@onion22@

Cfx left the forum a few years ago, so you're unlikely to see a reply.

There are some options for shortening a DD neck, but the one I know of requires a DD frame upgrade from Asachanchi. The neck frame replacement can be ordered with one less ball, which allows you to trim the vinyl and shorten the neck. The catch is that the frame is made for DD heads and requires an insert that is made to fit DD neck holes. Asachanchi doesn't make a SmD head version, and I am not sure the insert can be installed just by widening the neck hole; it's got other elements shaped for a DD head.

Here is a Youtube video on the neck shortening process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPQhElm_UT8

And the Asachanchi neck replacement.

https://youtu.be/u-Ph8REoqGM

Edit: Actually, iirc Asachanchi does make a version of the neck that does not require the insert. The insert is made for damaged heads or people who want to use the ex-heart unit for eye positioning.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
