Leekeworld wigs on Smart Doll?

Recommended Posts

Missy_Magoo

Has anyone got a leeke wig on a Smart Doll and can recommend a size, please?

Since Smart Dolls have that awkward head size of 8 inches I've noticed some SD wigs can look huge on them, and I've heard that leeke wigs run big.

At the same time, I don't want to get an MSD size and have it be too small. Thoughts??

"MSD" and "SD" are not wig sizes -- yes, some wigs that fit SDs will look huge on Smart Dolls because not all SD-sized dolls wear the same wig size. Some dolls that fit in the SD category wear as small as 7-8 and some wear as big as 10-11!

8 isn't actually an awkward head size; it's extremely common.

Leeke in 8-9 will fit a SmartDoll just fine. All below are Leeke, all are 8-9 size. I don't use wig caps; if you do, you may want to size up to 9-10.

Oh that's very useful, thank you for the photos! I guess if 8-9 works I will go with that

Apologies, I'm aware they're not wig sizes, I was just abbreviating as SD is usually shorthand for 8/9 or in some cases 9/10 and MSD for 7/8.

I used the word awkward as they're the only doll I've ever had who goes in that no man's land of not really knowing which size to pick, sometimes too big for one category and too small for another depending on the maker, I sort of wish Danny had made them .5 of an inch bigger or smaller haha.

Well their official measurement for head cirbleepference is 210mm or 8.27in, so they fit into the 8-9in wig range perfectly. 7/8in may be a really really tight fit though.

I recently bought the Ohara Rose wig from Leekeworld in 8-9 for my Sana and it was a big disappointment. I know their wigs sometimes show the wig cap, but this was just ridiculous. It's also big enough to fall off her head if I tip her backwards. So definitely go for an extra cap underneath.

The styling left quite a lot to be desired, although it's probably fairly easy to fix with a hairdryer.

I also bought a shorter style that I hoped would work for one of the boys, but it was definitely too big for them. On the other hand, they have smaller heads than the girls.

Belpita, did you get 8-9 or 9-10?

9-10 is most definitely too large for a Smart Doll and definitely would fall off. I used all my 8-9s without a wig cap and had zero fit issues. (In the same breath, unless you find a company with very large 7-8s, those are going to be way too small and possibly impossible to get on.)

I avoid Leeke whites and pale blondes for this reason; they use a semi-transparent white fiber and the wig caps are often visible. Sadly, their dark colors (blacks, dark purples, etc.) often involve dark wig caps and come with a staining risk... So I like them for mid-range colors.

I got 8-9.

The darker ones are definitely risky.

Thank you very much for photo sharing. I was planning to buy 7-8" wig because I like tight fit but now I need to think one more time.

I'm honestly not sure what size to choose from them anymore. I think they've either changed the cap size or there may be a difference in size depending on what line of wig you buy. The main downside of Leekeworld's wigs is that the cap isn't stretchy, so it really has to be a more or less perfect fit or won't work at all (unless only slightly big, so you can use a silicone cap underneath).

It's also worth noting that Smart Doll head sizes may have changed over the years. The newer boys are definitely smaller than the first versions, for example.

I've heard Leeke has been having production issues, so that may be causing sizing issues. I haven't bought from them in a while, but your description sounds quite different from what I have from them. My Leeke have fairly stretchy wig caps and don't need to be a perfect fit. So it sounds like the wigs they're making now are different from their older wigs???

I have some really old ones as well and they're also on fairly non-stretchy caps. What I mean by that is they don't have any elastic, like for example Monique wigs do. They still stretch a little if need be, but if the wig is too big there will be a gap (unlike in stretchy wig caps that will still close around the head, but perhaps be a bit bubbly on top).

I have a batch of 8-9 Leeke wigs coming tomorrow, so I’ll update on this thread with the latest. I’ve really been struggling finding good wigs for Smart Dolls lately - the 8-9s I’ve tried tend to be a little big even with a wig cap. Or maybe I’m just spoiled by the nice tight fit of the standard wigs.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding staining- I just ordered a dark wig. I wonder if soaking them first would help? Will definitely use a wig cap for this one now!
