futakuchi-onna mouth mod

Recommended Posts

kinkachou

As my girls continue to be slowly completed, I figured I should post those with different mods here (mods that I managed to get "in progress" pics of, anyway).

I finished my futakuchi-onna girl, Mami, recently. For quite some time I was working on creating the right body for her (see: this thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17103 ), and before I had even begun to attempt that I had sculpted a mouth for the back of her head that I ended up putting aside for reasons that I don't really remember or care about at this point. I finally finished it some time last month, and with that Mami joins the small few of my girls who are totally done as far as character shelling goes.

The prototype was sculpted with Tamiya putty, and when I became dissatisfied with how that painted (probably my own fault for not priming it correctly), I switched over to Sculpey both to save my remaining putty for Hacchi's mod and use up the multitude of different Sculpey colors I have laying around. The base colors I used for the mouth were similar enough to the colors I painted them with that I didn't have to worry about them showing through, and the paint adhered to the material relatively well.

Here you can see some pics of the mouth after painting/blushing and before the addition of the teeth. I sponge painted most of the mouth, which gave the skin some texture and prevented streaking (also, I don't have an airbrush). The lighting here allows you to see the contours of the lips and the wrinkles around the mouth.

Here are the teeth, waiting to be baked:

I attached the teeth to the roof and bottom of the mouth with E6000 glue-- I also gave the lips a few coats of gloss.

After the teeth had set, I blushed and textured them to make them look worn. It's very hard for Mami to reach back there to brush, after all, and even if she could the mouth wouldn't allow it anyway The teeth were glossed as well.

Here's the finish mouth held up to Mami's face to give you a sense of scale-- it's supposed to be pretty large and intimidating. I'm quietly happy that its lips match the color of her own

And lastly, here the mouth is in its rightful place! I had a hell of a time getting it where I wanted it to be, but after some work and careful positioning, I'm happy with where it lays. On the back of the mouth is an alligator clip, which I have clipped to a tied off piece of hair that I'm holding close to her scalp with bobby pins.

It's wonderful to have her complete! Thanks for looking

That looks scary! But also very well done, I like it!

I was wondering sonething: is Super Sculpey beige colour the same colour of NS DD? Which one is the closest shade, in your opinion?

Before seeing your comment that was already exactly what I was thinking. That scares me and it isn't my thing, but it's very well done and I can certainly appreciate the talent that went into it.

Bellatrix and cfx, thank you both! I'm glad the mouth has produced its intended effect-- my girls are all demons and monsters, after all

Bellatrix, Sculpey beige is unfortunately nowhere close to DD NS I painted over it with the VOLKS supplied Zoukei-Mura paints in order to achieve the color match. If you were to toy with mixing various shades, you might be able to get something close to NS, but between figuring out what to mix and how light or dark to make it (Sculpey darkens once it's baked) I feel like it's not worth all the frustration and so it's easier to paint it.

Thank you for the explanation!

Sorry to go a little Ot, but i was planning to do mods of dd heads as well, and I am struggling finding any sculpey that matches the skintone, especially because I dont have an airbrush to match/unify the colors.

Which one do you think would be the best for that purpose?

You wouldn't want to put the Sculpey on the head to mod it as Sculpey is oil based and can stain; that's a job for an epoxy clay-- however, if you're looking to match with clay alone, maybe try Fimo? They have a mixing chart which you might find helpful:

Bellatrix, assuming you were asking about airbrushes--

I'm not familiar with newer companies and models, but for an airbrush in the "buy one, last forever" category I think Iwata is the choice. The normal "high performance" (HP) line has been made in similar form forever* so parts should always be available, and they're in the kind-of-expensive-but-not-outrageous price range: https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/total-control.html There's the cheaper Eclipse line with similar models now: https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/all-star-versatility.html and the CM line that costs as much as a Dollfie Dream https://www.iwata-airbrush.com/absolute-precision.html

Typically for doing art or anything where you are changing colors a lot and not spraying huge large areas, you want the gravity feed type. Side feed can be fine too but for this you definitely do not want the siphon feed with the bottles that's more for using an airbrush like a small paint gun i.e. painting model cars or something.

I'm sure other companies make good products but I just don't know much about them. Paasche used to be well-regarded but I read comments now their quality isn't what it was long ago. I'm sad to see they no longer make their unique "turbo" airbrush, the AB, which let you paint very fine lines and was used by a number of professional artists

(*I have an Iwata HP-C that is ~30 years old and isn't much different than what they make now. I haven't used it in many years and probably will never get back to that so maybe I should sell it.)

The mouth and teeth turned out amazing! (I really like Mami's faceup, too.) Your creations to make your demon girls are very impressive,

man this is so cool.

I always found pictures of Futakuchi-onna really interesting due to the contrast between the pretty girl and the grotesque mouth. In many illustrations of them the mouth had control over some of the strands of hair around it, which it could use like hands to shovel food into itself without the knowledge of the girl. I have no idea if something like that would be possible (maybe silver wire? or braids with wires?) but it would make a really cool picture if it could be pulled off.

Torino, that's exactly the kind of juxtaposition I'm going for with my girls' appearances, so I'm glad to hear I'm pulling it off successfully Yes, in imagery the mouth does have control over the woman's hair, and uses it to grab food to eat. This does happen with Mami's hair, and I had thought about doing something with wires like you said in order to be able to do shoots where the mouth would be shown snacking. I might try thinner jewelry wire threaded into some small braids and see how that works

Wow, that's an excellent mouth! Especially the 'rotting' paintjob on the teeth themselves

also seconding wire in the wig - an old cosplay trick was to use floral wire to do ridiculous hair loops

Such an awesome mod! I love the detail in the sculpting and the paint job.

I don't think I commented on your other thread about Mami's modded body/suit, but that was also really amazing and even inspirational? Would you mind if I borrow some of your ideas? I might want to try something sort of similar eventually if I can find a good bodysuit/stockings to match Volks tan/brown..

May I ask what paint set you used from Volks? The basic or the make set? I have a girl with an epoxy eye mod and I cannot mix a color match to NS with my own paints to save my life. I've tried so many times.

Your girl is so spooky though, I love it! Such a creative mod to do to a DD. I really like seeing how you customize your girls. The teeth look especially cool. You did a great job with the discolored look!

I would love to know exactly what paints you used for the color match, too, as I currently have a floating head tucked away waiting for paint to cover her eye mod.

chise, thank you! I honestly have a lot of fun weathering and dirtying things up-- I don't know what it is I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on some wire for her hair; I try not to disappoint!

elianti, thank you so much! You can absolutely draw inspiration from how I've made Mami's suit, and I'd be happy to offer guidance if you like. If you decide to give it a try, let me know how it turns out!! I also might end up changing it again, since I'm constantly trying to make things better than before.

Noxxbunny and Daisy-chan, it's the ZM make set

Thank you all for your compliments and helpful feedback! I'll post any updates here.

Kymera, IpLemons-- thank you so much for your compliments! I think I'm pretty okay with how she turned out; there are some things I'd maybe change in the distant future, but right now she's lovely as is. Thanks for taking interest in part of the modding process
