Volks making it harder to buy dolls from overseas?

Recommended Posts

Lulupixie

I read a post on fb that included a link to volks talking about how you can only get their dolls if you have a japanese adress now. Its kind of confusing. Anyone else hear of this? I’d post a screenshot, but I kinda dont know how on here ‘ sorry D:

Were they talking about the SD full choice system? That’s always been the case with those. They recently made some updates to the system and it seems like a few people were hoping one of the updates would be not needing to live in Japan, but it turned out that the updates were just a change to the pricing and a bunch of new sculpts. So it’s not that it got harder, it just didn’t change - but that’s probably why people are talking about it now because they only announced the new changes today. (I’m disappointed a bit too cos I was hoping they’d finally make SDCute an option )

I am at least 90% sure that’s what they were probably talking about. It doesn’t affect DDs if so (after all, the only DDs you can’t get outside Japan are D’Coords and DreamChoice, but you don’t to live in Japan to get either unlike SD Full choice, you just have to visit or have a proxy) Otherwise, can you copy paste what you read?

"Seems oversea buyer getting more hard to get Volks doll.

After the Takashimaya incident, Volks have change their buying rules, all buyer need to provide their address, and it must be in Japan. So it also apply to this new SDM limited doll.

So, no more oversea buyer can find someone line up and buy all of them, unless they got a lot of Japan address. "

Oh, I think this probably applies to events only then. There was an event where one person from China bought all of Lorinas (was it?) at an event to mark up the price and resell them.

I guess if someone is just visiting Japan for an event, then this makes it impossible to buy a doll :/ A bit unfair, but with what has happened, it's understandable. Although I don't really think it solves the problem, since I believe the Chinese person bribed Japanese people to get him the doll? But once they came up with their ticket, he signed and paid for the doll, but even with this new rule, they could sign off with their address and then give him the doll, so I don't know if it fixes anything.

Is there actually a source on that or just someone saying something on Facebook, though?

It seems like something that would warrant a bigger announcement.

(Also IIRC the people that guy paid to stand in line were Chinese exchange students, which would mean they -were- living in Japan if even temporarily. That whole incident seemed to have happened because Takashimaya, the department store that ran the event, were in charge of sales and didn’t properly enforce the rule of one per person (because that guy still paid for them all himself). I heard that the second event for the same doll Volks has switched it to a lottery method instead of first come first serve (those guys had been lining up since stupid o clock in the morning to be first in line) and I assumed that was their method of preventing it from happening again even somewhat - it’d be sad if they really are going to blame scalping on foreign buyers - and also ridiculous as anyone who frequents yahoo auctions immediately after Dolpa would know.

That’s why I’d rather a concrete source first so people don’t jump to conclusions too early.

-edit. regarding events, does that mean the miku expo event/luka wont be first come first serve?

I just remember someone online going "Waaaaaaaaah ban North America from lottos they can enter in both, it's not fair! Wahhhhhhh!"

I doubt they would start doing Japan addresses only (at least for DD) unless it started saturating their lotto boxes, but to be fair they really just up their production numbers a little. Everything gets sold out eventually.

No, this stuff is first come first serve. Well Luka is preorder but still possibly limited. This is verified in a Volks email I just received.

IF only they give us everything they release in Japan then I don't mind sticking with North american lottery, its easier to win too, but because of stupid license, volks usa are not allow to get certain title or certain costumes which made the argument invalid.
