Honestly, I was hoping that this thread would be full of people critiquing the sculpt such that I would be convinced -not- to want her, but no, nobody in the thread has been any help at all in that department

 

I mentioned this in another thread, but based on her outfit being comparable to what came with Kos-Mos, I think her price is pretty much where it should be. She lacks the plethora of weapons, but is priced slightly lower than Kos-Mos was. I suspect a Kos-Mos re-issue today would have a comparable price to the new Saberface pre-orders @ ¥109,000 each. I know folks groan at Matoi's cost, but I think it's spot on for what you get.

Oh, I don't disagree at all--the wig and armor/outfit are both extremely elaborate, and the cost has to reflect that.

 

My own problem with the cost is a purely personal one, since I don't know the character and would want the sculpt for something different entirely. This is, of course, not Volks' fault, since they are after all in the business of making character dolls.

 

If I was a fan of the character Matoi, I'd have no such problem with the price. It's just that I have doubts about being able to sell off all the components that I wouldn't use--as intricate and beautifully made as they seem to be, the demand in the non-Japanese market (since the game seems to be Japan-only?) may be very low. And again, this is a personal problem, it's not Volks' fault at all

Yeah, the price seems ok for what she comes with.

 

For me though, and I think some of the others posting here, I don't know the game or character and I don't like the outfit or the wig, so by that metric she ends up being expensive. That stuff can of course be sold to offset some of the cost, but after all the issues I had with Paypal that would be difficult for me to do since that's basically the only way to conduct private sales with anyone anymore.

 

And yeah, Subaru's edited pic doesn't help. I suspected she'd be prettier with different eyes and that confirms it.

I'd probably be interested in a split for the outfit /armor. Not really into the doll or wig, and my doll buy this time around will be Kaede. Pretty much rules out going for Matoi.

This is starting to make me wonder if this change in how all dolls are sold is going to replace the annual pre-order project. It's a Volks tradition, and an event that every can join in on, but it's becoming redundant. I wonder how they see it fitting into their future.

I was thinking this same thing. Maybe production is to a point where they no longer need the ~one year period on preorders? It also alleviates the distaste I know people have for having to pay so much up front so long before actually receiving anything.

 

The limited number + preorder like they're doing with Kaede and how Luka was also handled seems like a way to somewhat minimize risk to Volks while also allowing for a possibly larger run for a doll that's unexpectedly popular. They can make a smaller initial amount and then only make however many are ordered beyond that and not end up with another Freyja.

I think there is a benefit to reducing the aftermarket value as a means of combating scalpers. In any event this may mean good things for all the Nier people, and we should know about the status of next pre-order project in a few weeks.

She seems really quite unique to me too, sort of halfway between a more anime head and the mature ones that are a little more BJD-style like Rise or Alna.

The After Event takes place on September 8th, and is a clickwar for in-stock followed by a limited preorder clickwar; in other words is the same as Kaede. Only the Dolpa in-person sales were unlimited preorders (if they were, now I'm wondering if I misinterpreted that?)

 

In addition, Volks USA will be having a lottery for her at the same time, September 1st - 10th. So the entering one and entering the other upon losing looks like is no longer an option. Here's the limited info so far:

So, Volks may still do the preorder project later this year because the rest of these have been limited in some way still it seems.

So it's not a clickwar, but with it being preorder presumably it would be a lottery with a lot of winners?

I wonder how high the win rate will be for her. Wondering if I should enter in both lotteries, but don't want to get myself in a situation. I'm very nervous to not get her, but I don't want to hurt my relationship with Volks USA (or either side, but I entered there)

 

She definitely went from a whatever to a must have for me as well. Thought about her sitting on my desk watching over me doing homework for my engineering degree, inspiring me with all that space armor. Another franchise I've always meant to get into but haven't yet and when I looked up clips from the anime version she is voiced by my favorite voice actress! So ahhhh! My wallet.

It's an unfortunate side effect of Volks USA doing their events more in line with Japan that you can no longer enter the USA lottery after knowing the results from the Japan one.

 

I'm no expert on the lotteries or win rates but it seems like it's been better this year, starting with Sailor Moon. Matoi being a lottery for a limited preorder is uncharted territory too making it even harder to even guess.

 

Especially in those latest twitter pictures I think she looks really awesome; the different types of materials the outfit is made from and the various shiny, matte, and in-between finishes makes it look really nice.

I'm not sure (only time I entered a lottery before was for 2 outfits, won one and not the other, got an email saying that I won the following items and listing the outfit I did win) but there's still an hour to go before 6pm Pacific time.

 

If we don't get anything after an hour we shall know, I guess...

Generally, as far as I know, they only email if you won. I've entered in a few lotteries from both the international and USA site and have never received a "you didn't win".

 

Doubt I'm gonna get an email within 40 minutes, but fingers still kinda crossed. :c
