Smart Doll glasses

They look awesome but I worried about scratching the faceup even before reading his warnings about them.

Maybe if they didn't cost as much as my own glasses...

That's the problem I have with most of the Smart Doll clothing and accessories. I don't know anything about design, production and materials costs for them, but it all seems expensive to me. I keep WANTING to buy things, but haven't yet managed to convince myself to do it, which is a shame since there are soooo many things I'd like - looking at the Discontinued section on the site makes me feel rather sad on seeing all the things I've passed up.

I've bought full outfits for dolls that cost more than I'd spend on human clothes, but never an individual item of doll clothing. But then again... I never spend much on clothing for myself anyway since it always ends up covered in paint or glue marks. I tend to wear stuff until it literally falls apart, and then I try and mend it anyway

 

 

But all that said, these glasses do look very nice - much nicer than the usual plastic doll glasses I've seen. I wonder if Danny has plans for other styles of frames (maybe even sunglasses too), or if they're just a one-off for Kanata.

These are pretty cute but $100+ for everything?... Maybe better off making glasses out of resin and using wire to hook it all up together Now, provided if you want to do the work. Though I'll admit I'll be keeping these on my watchlist for the future perhaps.

According to the text on the page, this is a line called "Smart Doll Vision" and these Kanata glasses are just the first of it. Previously on twitter/instagram he's shown the same design in other colors so at minimum I'd expect that.

 

There's also a note about dark lenses coming for sunglasses, and there is one picture showing those.

They look really, really good but 70 EUR for one tiny pair of glasses is a cost that I simply can't justify.

Good to note ! I guess I can't be too surprised if the son of Jimmy Choo is pumping out quality products like this. Even if they're as expensive as Jimmy Choo shoes it seems. Nonetheless hopefully glasses like that and a few great clothes they have go on sale. Thanks for letting us know

I have too, although like Zaliayn said, usually it's in sets (and usually that means that each individual item's cost is not that bad). And usually their cost isn't $100 for just one item I can "justify" a shirt costing $20-30, but if it costs $100, even if it has swarowski crystals on it, I can't justify the cost.

I think Danny is planning on offering Kanata as an essentials set without the glasses so the price is the same as the other Smart Dolls, but if you order the glasses at the same time that you order Kanata, there will be a discount on the glasses.

Ooof Yikes, I expected a hefty price but nothing of that sort. It's a good thing I didn't bother waiting for some Smart Doll glasses then. I just 3D printed my own and made my own lens with clear plastic.

 

 

P.S I printed mine in ABS, my doll wears them everyday(That's his character) and it has not stained/scratched him once. Even in the most hottest of weathers.

Ah the time sales - I always manage to miss those somehow! Do they only happen around doll birthday dates, or have they happened at other random times?

I'm very glad that he's going to keep Kanata at the same price as the other dolls and offer the glasses separately. I'm considering getting her but I'd change the character, and I don't think I'd have a use for the glasses, at least at present anyway.

Ah, yes, here it is! They do seem quite tough to me, but as with anything on a smaller scale they will be less sturdy than human size glass frames.

I'd actually like to see these if you have a picture of them! I've been teeter tottering over buying these but now I'm tempted to make a 3D printed alternative...

When you get them I'd like to see how they fit on Rin's fat head, since officially they are only for Smart Doll and might break or whatever. If the non-approved heads are wider then yeah I can see a potential issue.

The only downsides to 3D printing is that you can't make them look 100% rounded(Unless you sand them but you have to be careful).

As stated earlier, he's been wearing these for nearly 2 years now and it has yet to stain or scratch him.

Is it bad that I how do I explain it... "cringed"(Not sure if this is the right word for it)? When I saw that. I don't know why. It's just that it looks like it's about to break any second now. He mentions it's made of "Beta-titanium" which is an alloy, so it's made with some other metal in it. Obviously they will still be able to break if bent too much.

I have doubts it will fit Rin's head. She was by far the biggest DD head I have ever owned, if I recall she was bigger than my DDH-07 , Although I have never owned a smart doll girl, so I don't know their head size.

I just mailed my smartdoll off to her new home. Probably should have measured that. Cherry’s head was much thinner than Rin’s. Rin’s head is full of secrets.

I love them! Now I'm tempted to save a couple 100 and try to make my own in some way. I was thinking about using craftwire for frames and resin for lenses to just attempt to make my own but I see this looks fantastic!

As expected from CJ they are amazing. Very bendy. I’ll take some better pictures of just the glasses themselves for those who want to see. Lenses are a pain to pop in. x3 Always afraid my giant people hands are gonna break the tiny dolly stuff.
