Other Places to Talk About DDs?

Since Figure.fm and Doll.fm are gone now, as well as Scripple's old forum... I don't know of any other places to talk about DDs besides this forum. I hang around the Discord on occasion, and I have an account on DoA, but I find it hard to interact with people on both platforms ^^". Does anyone know of others?

There's quite a few pages on Facebook for DD and SmD discussions if you're on there. That's really the only places I know about besides here.

That's unfortunate... There really aren't a lot of places to talk about them anymore.

Flickr has groups where you can share pictures of your DDS, and also discussion groups. But there not much activity on the discussions threads.

I've only been on DoA for a couple years, but haven't seen any prejudice against custom DDs myself--maybe that was something that was more prevalent in the past?

 

There is definitely less discussion and gallery activity for DDs than for resins, but I think that's more a case of the majority of people on the forum preferring non-anime sculpts. (And for some people buying into the whole "all anime/anime dolls are for perverts" thing, but such people do not seem to be the majority at all).

I have to disagree with this. I've been on DoA for more than 12 years and have only encountered this attitude like... maybe once or twice, total. In fact, I've seen you post in the DD discussion thread and get plenty of compliments on your non-fullset girls, so even you know that's not true!

 

The DD discussion thread isn't super-active (few discussion threads on DoA are), but the folks there are very friendly and I wouldn't discourage anyone from posting there.

On the topic of DoA, people there seem to know pretty much (bleep) all about DDs and usually like custom dolls, so I don't know why they'd favour fullset DDs over anything else... seems like a weird misconception.

Resin anime dolls have been getting more common (new Dollzone minis, even), so it's probably the perfect time to attempt forum crossover . I'd love to see more custom DDs in DOA's WIP (and photography) sections. Just minimal comments about boobs, please, resin people are artsy prudes and we like it that way

(Anyone want to provide those Flickr/FB group links?)

It seems like to me YouTube, Flickr, and Instagram have been picking up traction for doll stuff, even moreso on Instagram since it's much easier to track down and follow people to talk about dolls etc. Twitter has a nice (Japanese) DD community I've noticed too. Though I guess none of these are really forum-like alternatives.

I pretty much only use DoA for the marketplace ^^". I've been in the doll hobby since 2005, and a lot of things have changed on DoA since then. The people just don't seem to be the same. I think Twitter is a really great platform for DDs though. It reminds me of doll.fm in a way, but it doesn't seem like there's much of a community on there outside of Japan. Maybe I'll try to start one up ^^".

That's kind of the unfortunate part of Twitter Most DD owners are Japanese and it becomes tough when you don't speak Japanese. I can't say for sure but I don't see any of them being opposed to foreigners tagging along for DD stuff... I've been thinking of making an alternative Twitter for my DD stuff actually so if you make a Twitter let me know ^^

My Japanese isn't very good so when I make conversation with Japanese DD owners it doesn't turn out well ha ha. I'll try to post more often so maybe people outside Japan will be more inclined to post to Twitter.

Funny this should come up. Anyone remember Google+? No? Didn't think so. Anywho, once upon a time it was Google's wannabe version of Facebook. It never took off, and is a shell of it's former self, but there are a couple DD groups, as well as general doll groups, one of which gets a ton of DD posts. Somehow I got made an owner of one, still no clue how. I was bored one day and logged in and got a notice I was now the proud owner of a Google+ group. So you all are welcome to post there too. I plan on posting more there once I have more free time from adulting. But generally I find this forum is more then enough for me to get my doll socializing on.

No I haven't posted in a while ^^". I have a new doll coming in the mail this Friday. I should hopefully have her painted and modded and everything this weekend as long as things go well. I'll post a lot more once she's done. I followed you back!

I'm really sad that figureFM is gone. I loved the DD stories there from the Asian members. There stories were full of personality and humor, not just pretty pictures of pretty or sexy dolls. You can find that element here as well, but I don't see that on Facebook or Flickr. I haven't looked on Instagram yet, have to explore that.
